  1. ahem.... investing is not "saving" it is more like "buying in the future". That is my story and I am sticking to it! pfffffft!
  2. Cut them at an angle with a clean cut. The removed stems or leaves can be left out for the ends to dry for a day or two, then place the ends in a pot with potting soil (not just dirt from the ground) that you've mixed in very little sand, then put some sand or gravel on top in a VERY thin layer. Plant the cutting an inch or two deep and give it VERY little water until it roots. The plant can not take drops in temps of under 50 degrees F. So if it was on your unheated porch, this might be it too. But as I said before, it looks like over watering to me. Make sure you take off any "dead" leaves regularly. The pot sounds fine but make sure you never have a "resovoir" of water in the pot shield underneath, that is bad for the plant. Jade plants are watered monthly or bi monthly are are not misted. You can take a damp cloth and dust them though just don't use any cleaning products. You can also "pinch" the stems and leaves lightly and gently to promote them growing a bit (not too hard!).
  3. Kathy, I think you just may be more of a "preparation hound" than me if that is possible!! LMAO! If I may, I recommend the fuzzy pink slippers at Payless (cheap, comfy, oh so soft and puts you in a great mood). You seem VERY organized and ready ready ready! Have you gotten your liquid Tylenol yet? I wayyyyy overpacked. I don't really remember much and I had a TON of clean clothes when I got home! Hmmm, was I naked all the time??? NEED: If you are planning on going home the day after surgery (brave girl) you will probably still be a little groggy and very slow. Call the airlines and make sure you have a wheelchair arranged on the way home and for flight transfers.
  4. Where did you have the plant in your house? What kind of sunlight was it getting? How much had you been watering it? Is this kept in indoor conditions? (ie is it on a porch that is not heated for the winter?) They do not require a lot of watering at all as they are a succulant plant (they store their water). The soil should nearly be completely dry before watering again. As for sunlight, more than 8 hours of direct light each day is too much. Try pulling it back from time to time to give it a "rest". But this does not look like your problem. It looks over watered. If the branches are more "rubbery" and break off easy then you have overwatered. Try to make cuttings from the upper stems that are still sound and firm. In the future, avoid overwatering in winter and cover the soil surface with a layer of sand or gravel. Watering should be MONTHLY or BI MONTHLY not weekly or daily. You may have stem rot already and if so, the plant is a bit lost to "plant heaven". You can try cutting off a good stem and replanting it, but I think it looks more savable. Some good ol fashioned TLC would do this plant some good!
  5. Hi all. I just wanted to get a thread started about this hot topic. I have noticed a couple people posting about kids getting banded. What is your opinion? My opinion: I think banding in teenage years is okay as long as they are older and have had the majority of their growth spurts. If they have given it an honest effort and are not just being lazy then I am all for it!! I think that banding under the age of 14 is a tragedy as their bodies are still developing and growing. Especially for females, there is a HUGE growth spurt coming between 16-18. I also think that parenting is a key. Feeding your children healthy meals and still making good choices for them. Just because they are older and more independent does not mean that you don't still cook a good dinner for them or pack their lunches. I have heard of 11 and 12 year olds getting banded and this saddens me greatly. I am sorry for being so opinionated about this (well actually I am not sorry as it is my right as an American) but I just think that as SUCH a young age there is so much more things you can try than surgery. Plus, after trying these things if the problem remains after their last major growth spurt there may even be a better solution. WLS is obviously not going anywhere and is evolving more and more. The option will still be there later. I guess as a parent of a 12 year old it wouldn't even be in my top 10 options right now. I would be trying so many more things to get their bodies healthy and under control. I do consider myself lucky in that my son has been skipped I think in the "fat gene" of our family. He is very tall, athletic and healthy. But then again, I take my parenting veryyyy seriously and have always had him eat healthy. (even when I was shoving a twinkie in my mouth in secret in the bathroom! bad mommy) I guess I take the "do as I say, not as I do" approach. But NO MORE! Now the whole house is eating healthier!! Okay, so now what is everyone elses opinions? I am looking forward to hearing them!! Please remember in this thread that everyone has their own opinions and it is our right to have them. No personal attacks are tolerated or I will simply delete this thread. Please, let's just discuss how we personally "feel" about this topic... ok... ready.... set...... GO!
  6. Oh my gosh girl! 24 lbs in less than 2 weeks!! YOU GO GIRL!! If anyone can bounce back from things I think it is you. I have never in my life met someone and had the impression that I have in you and your dad. I am not just saying that either, you two are very compassionate, caring, good natured and wonderful people to be around. I know that I was just a better person when hanging around you. And to see your father/daughter relationship was unbelievable, what a fantastic connection you have. Call me when you can Roxanna, take care hun.
  7. Eileen, I am right there with ya girl! I got banded the same day. But I am counting the day of surgery so now I am 10 days post op (gets me to solids quicker ) I get hungry too! And it is depressing me as I lost so much weight in the first week. But now I am at a standstill. I think it will get better next week when I heal more and can do a bit of exercise. I am in the "creamies/mushy runny" stage now. I am eating 3 meals a day but FAR less than I ever did before. I need to drink more Water though. I too can take big sips without any effects. I think it might be that our swelling went down very soon. maybe we are good healers? I also heard that lower BMI's aren't as tight after surgery so we see the less restriction faster. Keep up the good fight girlie!
  8. yep, I saw the same thing! I was like MANNNNN I wish it had been true! But I guess you actually have to PLAY to win. Stupid rule.
  9. I would take all of my lap band friends on a fantastic cruise!!!!! Then I would invest the rest of it in stocks and commodoties. Oh, and I would buy myself a new vibrator. Mine is getting tired.
  10. Debby, Old drama, bad blood. Jenna
  11. I must admit I was a HUGE Vic Secret buyer. When I was 20-30 this is ALL I would buy. I even had a charge card from them! I bought the clearance catalog all the time. But alas, their largest size is 38 D for most and I am a 40-42 DD right now. For the past 2 years, I buy all my bras and panties from Lane Bryant. I LOVE them! They tend to have the "buy one get one free" a lot and occasionally the "$12.99 or "$9.99" bra with the "5 panties for $25. " I also pretty much dress head to toe in Lane Bryant. Word of warning for Lane Bryant shoppers.... their "catalog" is NOT theirs, they sold the name and the clothing nor the sizes are the same. Only online is it actually Lane Bryant. I found this out the hard way.
  12. Actually I DIDDDDD do it today. hee hee hee. If you look at my post it was 12:15 am!!! I had been planning this ALLLLLLLLLLL week long! I was biting at the bit to do it! I wassss going to make it go all day but I just couldn't stand it! ROFLMAO!!!!!! (still doing her booty shaking dance)
  13. You gotta love those great husbands of ours don't ya? Way to go Bill for keeping us informed! You are officially A OK in our books! ha ha ha Congrats Vera! Have a speedy recovery! Welcome to bandland!
  14. Gosh, that sounds horrific! I just wish I knew WHAT it was that I was feeling half the time. I get these wierd feelings but because I have never had heartburn or reflux ever in my life, I don't know what it is or how it feels! It is good that you can identify and distinguish between the two! (throughout the day (about 3-5 times a day) I sort of "hiccup" and feel a tinge of pressure and I have noooo idea what it is) Are you now going to do liquids for a day to clear it up? I hope things are okay and everything goes back to bandtacular soon!
  15. Welcome to Lap Band Talk!!! I hope your journey is terrific!!!
  16. Wait, something doesn't make sense. You said that you had your surgery March 28 (which was last week) yet you said you have lost 21 lbs since pre op on march 14. Please explain so people can better help you.
  17. APRIL FOOL'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But wouldn't that be nice? ((sigh)) I would loveeeee to have that happen to me. HEE HEE HEE I gotcha I gotcha I gotcha ((dancing around doing her booty shaking dance))
  18. Yes Michelle, thanks. I really should email Dr Miranda I think for suggestions. Pre op I don't think I was even listening to her I have to admit. I was so nervous/excited/anxious/etc about banding that all I talked to was like the teacher on Peanuts cartoons going "wa wa wa waaaaaa wa wa wa". Today was a reality check as I pushed a bit too hard. I don't think I hurt anything because it was just walking (not even fast pace). I just think I went too far. A good nap cured me.
  19. Lisa come on! With you? Sheer WILLPOWER!!!!!!!!! You go girl!
  20. Be safe Penni! And hook that darn laptop up quickkkkkkkk!
  21. A very very very wise person once counseled me on this very subject. You need to examine WHY you are having fear. Is it fear of the actual surgery date, if so, postpone it till you are ready. Is it fear of emotions, if so, then grab yourself up by the Lane Bryant garter belt and go get it done girl! You will feel better. But definitely listen to your heart and not your desperations. I truly believe feelings, true gut feelings, come to us for a reason. I may not have always listened to it in the past but I thank goodness that someone has reminded me that gut feelings are to be listened to. I wish you speed in your decisions and opinions about the band. No one can decide what to do but you! Jenna
  22. Please tell your dad hello for me and give him big hugs Roxanna! Keep going with the weight loss! Wooot! I know you are so dedicated to your band you will do awesome! How are you "feeling" tho?
  23. I drink Fruit2O and LOVEEEEEE IT! You can get it at Sam's by the case!
  24. Ok, Reality check for me! I was so damn excited that I went to the mall today and decided to walk walk walk. However I had to crawl crawl crawl into my bed when i got home. too much, too fast. I am slowing it down.
  25. I have been married for 3 years and he has NEVER seen me go #1 or #2. I am VERY freaky about the whole bathroom thing. If he even says "I can hearrrr youuu" I get stage fright and have to stop, then go back another time.
