Reflux, but not too tight???
I don't have reflux, but my doc advised to get over the counter pepcid in case there is a problem. He said reflux can be associated with this procedure. Luckily I am pretty tight (no bread for this gal-at all), but haven't experienced the reflux.

Magic 150 number
I set my goal at 150 (sounded good at the time when I was asked) Doc said that was a great goal, but still on the heavy side for 5'7". Personally I will be celebrating once I get under 200#

OMG! They do sound good and I have been craving pizza, but I haven't been able to eat any bread, wraps or pizza since my fill. I might have to break down and try? But I hate PBing.

Depressed about not wearing plus sizes
I just can't wait to get out of plus, for some reason they think people are short that shop in that section. Just cuz I am overweight doesn't mean I am short!! I'm getting closer, but the "regular" clothes scares me!! A little to hip???? I still need to cover myself-all of it! But I also know about the size thing so far from size 22 to some 18. Still can't get into my favorite capri's that I once wore that are 18, but can get into my work pants and some jeans. why can't it all be sized the same?

just one week has passed and i am ready to give up!
Pink-I felt the same way. I did mine right before New Years! 12/28/04 and went to a party and was stupid and ate a deviled egg! Well that ended the night for me and I was miserable the rest of the weekend. But you ya need to get up and moving again and if you don't have the support there you will always have it here. I was lucky my husband had been through it just a few weeks before me. I ate a lot of pudding and yogurt the rest of that weekend and sipped on water and broth. The broth was the most soothing for me. Wish you happier times ahead. You CAN do this, and it WILL get better. I still question it and then I step on the scale and know that it was the right thing for me! Good Luck!

Celeste- I guess I was bad about not looking into my surgeon to well. I was referred to him by my Baratric doctor whom I had been seeing for around 4 years. He has used the Surgical Institute Surgeons fof many of his WLS patients. I did send my husband to have his first before I did mine. Just to be sure . He does have a hard time finding the port, but is very good about sticking to it until he gets a fill in. We infact had an appt. last week and I have not needed anymore adjustments since Feb and I am down over 30 pounds since the initial surgery. I'm doing about 2 pounds a week. So are you going to be his first? I think I heard my doc say they need a procter in the room when they do the first few surgeries. Let me know if youhave other questions. It is the best thing I have done for myself! Good Luck! Larae

Hi-Sue. I was wondering if anyone else out there from around here. It seems like my doc does a lot but I haven't run into anyone besides me and the hubby. We actually had a visit with him today and Rich needed to get a fill-actually his first one to find out after thinking he had three others. He was missing the port. Don't let that scare you though. He did mine and I have lost 25 pounds since my fill. which was in February. I am down from 280 to 245. Don't get discourage as you really don't lose to much weight until you get a fill. We live in Bruce SD and work in Brookings. Hope to hear back from you and Good luck!

My Mom & the Band
My Mom had a kidney transplant last August due to health problems e.i. diabetes, h.p., MO. She is doing great since the transplant except keeping the weight off. Her Doc mentioned the Band and she is very seriously considering it. She can't do anything until she has her new kidney for a year, which she says gives her time to see how well it works for myself and DH. She is 69.

yummm - CRAWFISH!
Ok-we love Crawdads here in SD. And yes they live in the mud, but when the guys go and get them they put them in fresh water for a week or so to clean them out!! I can't wait until it warms up here enough for the guys to go get some. They are awesome!! And no head sucking here!! We just break off the tail and eat them. Of course the kids have to play with some of them and have crawdad fights before they get cooked! It fun for all when we do them here!

sober 4 good?
I like my beer and can still drink it- I just do it slower. AND my DH was hoping it would make me a cheap date and it hasn't yet. We normally go to Happy Hoiur every Friday with friends. I took it ver slow the first 6 weeks though, not knowing how I would do. I drank taps for a few weeks, because they seemed to have less carbonation. With Summer coming I was glad I could still have my beer for a nice hot day on the deck!

is it really worth it???????
I would either see a Dr. that specializes in Bariatrics or see a surgeon who does and has done the lap band procedure. I had been seen a Dr. that only deals with weight lost for the 4 years prior to deciding surgery was the way to go. I am personally against having my inners chopped up and rerouted, but to each their own. My mother is also actually considering the lap band as she had a kidney transplant in August and can't keep the weight off and we don't want to ruin the kidney she just got from my nephew as she is feeling really good. Her Doc suggested RNY-but she is set like me and doesn't like the cutting up part and ? him on the lap band. He didn't know much about it, but said he was willing to go to bat for her-if it is something she thought would help control her weight. My mother told him that myself and DH had just had it done in Dec. She can not have surgery for a year after the transplant-unless it is neccessary-health risk. Which I would think with her history weight would be a health risk, but she has to deal with medicare-so God only knows what they think is health risk. Being obese isn't a health problem in the eyes of many insurance companies. Mine excluded-they were wonderful. Good Luck with what ever you decide!!!

is it really worth it???????
Eve- I started at 280-so I know how the yo-yo thing goes. I was down to 220 about 3 years ago, just by watching my calories and walking. This was all also Dr. supervised as I was on 800 cals. Which as we all no is nothing in a day. SO he was very careful at watching me for malnourishment, the plus there is I worked at the clinic he practiced in. Anyway-In Dec my Hubby had the surgery on the 8-He has Sleep apnea-really bad-I wear ear plugs to bed!! Anway-he does get fustrated because weight lost is slower then RNY-but much safer. WE have a brother-in-law who did the RNY-and frankly he looks awful-because he lost so fast. I got my band on 12/28-and I am down 27 pounds and going. I love the band. I get full way, way faster then ever before in my life and You know it. There is no over eating when it come to the band, because you throw up (PB). ANd sorry-but I hate throwing up, so you are more careful about not taking that last bite, even though you are stuffed. I hope it help! I would do it again in a heart beat-the only medical problem I had was border line insulin resistance. I wanted to nip it in the butt as my mother just had a kidney transplant (8/04) due to complications with obesity, Diabetes and High B/P!!

Fills without Flouro
Mine never uses floro either. I have only had one fill and he had to bring in another Dr. to find it. They gave me 1cc in a 4cc band. I have been losing about 2 pounds a week. some pbing if I eat to fast or any bread. On the other hand my DH has had three fills. the first time they missed his port completely. Second time-they brought in the Dr. who found mine after poking him for 15 minutes. He still had no restriction, so yesterday he went in again. And again it took both Dr.'s to get the job done. He is now at 6cc in a 4cc band. He said it was a little rougher with finding the port yesterday. But today he is doing good and can feel some restriction. Our Doc. always numbs us really good, I didn't feel a thing when they were searching for mine. My port shifted an incision length over-I had fallen on the ice 1 week post-op. They think that might have moved it around.

Tattoos & Losing Weight
I got a tattoo on my arm like an arm band-a friends daughter drew the design for me and I love it, just got it this past October. My reward when I get to my goal is another tattoo.

just wondering about weight lose
I had surgery 12/28/04 and intially lost 13 pounds. I had my first fill of 1cc in a 4cc band on 2/1/05 and have since lost 2 pounds a week. I could probably do better if I would be more consistent with exercise, but I hate being out in the cold to walk. Sound like you already have a good routine going. Keep up the good work, the fills are a walk in the park! Keep up te good work and best of luck!

Tuna Fish
I found a ceasar dressing made by Kraft that is called "Carb Smart " and it is Ceasar. It isn't as thick as the "normal" dressing, but it is tasty!!

missed the port
Our surgeon does not do the fills under fluro-and neither one of us have had a barium swallow. I'm thinking our fills are still under the 90 day global for surgery. Good thing I work in medical billing and know these kind of things-otherwise I would have not thought anything of getting billed for it!
