  1. I never had reflux until I had my band. I take Nexium daily and won't eat anything after 8:00 p.m. This helps me. I can still drink milk and water in the evening, but nothing to eat. I tried all the over counter meds, and they don't seem to work as well, but to some it is worth a try?
  2. ok-I have been absent for too long-I need in on this! I was 230# yesterday!
  3. ok-I had three boys and one girl-plus I use to do Daycare-this is what I did. boys are a different creature. But for all of them I would get little items they wanted. Kept a calendar with stickers on the back of the toilet, everytime they used the potty they got a little sticker on the calendar-if they were dry all day they got a star, after so many stars (when it was daycare 5 days)-they got their prize, plus they were closer to getting the deed done! Good luck, my honeys are now 12,9,7! So times may changed, I had better success with daycare kids of course then mmy own kids, but it did work evetually. I also kept cheerios on the back of the toilet and would put them in for targets? Of course that is only for boys!
  4. I drink Beer and diet Pop and my doc knows it-His answer is limit it and don't eat when you are drinking!
  5. Hi-this sounds fun I am from South Dakota-Married almost 13 years-3 kids boy 12, girl 9 , boy 7. I work as a medical coder in a clinic. I love reading, music and crocheting. I am also a volunteer EMT. We just moved to a different house in the same town we were living in, but much bigger!! :clap2: Oh yeah the DH is banded with me! He went first, but isn't doing as well-he has a hard time following the RULES!
  6. Hang in there! I have been there and had it corrected - kept my band on!!! And am doing great since I had it fixed. Now I can't wait for an adjustment, so I start losing again!!!! Just trying to hit the exercise hard to see how much I can get off without an adjustment. Important part is I feel much better. Mine started in Sept, and I didn't have it fixed until 1/9/06-You can do this! Hang in! Stay tough and don't worry about weight lost right now, work on getting to March and fixing the probelm! Good Luck!
  7. OMG! It sounds like exactly what I went through. I lived on MAshed potaotes, creamed soups and ice cream shakes to get any down. I wish you the best, but I can also tell you I almost gave up on the band out of fustration that this happened. Then I did some reasearch and glad I got to keep it. I feel so much better. I read that the stomach prolapse happens to about 11% of banders, and I had two upper GI done and the radiologist said it looked fine. Also read most radiologist don't know what they are looking for as the band is still too new in the States and only your surgeon would know what they are looking for. I learned my lesson through suffering before I finally tagged my surgeon down to take a look. I hope you can stick it out until March-I sympathize with you as it is very tough to choose what to have each day and what decide to rear and ugly head and decide not to stay down that day. Good Luck!!!!
  8. Well I am back to work and back to eating again. Oh what a difference. I seen my Doc on Tuesday and everything was good. He started me back on regular food. I actually had a piece of toast with reduced fat peanut butter for breakfast yesterday-It was heaven. Couldn't eat it all-but it has been over a year since I have had bread. This morning I had about 1/4 cup of Total with milk! I can eat again and it stays put, I almost forgot what that was like! bonus was I lost 10# from surgery to post op check!:clap2:
  9. I had mine fixed on 1/9/06-Oh what a relief! I was throwing up and had awful heartburn! I couldn't keep anything down unless is was mashed potatoes, or creamed soup ( both high calories) no weight loss! what a difference having it fixed. I am back to work for the first time today, and had a small lettuce salad and cottage cheese and it all stayed put! Oh Joy!!!:hungry: Don't wait to long if you can. My surgeon used my same band and somehow sutured the to stomachs together on the top of the side it slipped to prevent it from happening again. And this he was told to do by the inventor of the inamed brand band. So hopefully it doesn't happen again. I was his first one he had to revised. I don't know how many he has done. Good luck!
  10. Well I survived a 3 hour revision surgery and feel like my inners may come out-but I haven't had heartburn or burping everything up. Time will heal-my worst fear was to lose the band toatlly and I didn't do that, so I'm happy once I feel better that is. Small sips and pain medication are my friends right now!
  11. Well I go in Monday for a revision on my band. They are calling it a stomach prolapse. So in other words my band slipped-Right? I just hope once they get in there they don't find anything to cause them to take it completely out. I have been vomiting for a few months now and the surgeon hasn't been in any hurry to do anything about it. He completely emptied the band hoping that would correct things-NOT! It has been so bad I sometimes hope they will take it out, but then again have loved the weight it has helped me get off. I know if I would have it off I would gain it all back because I could eat all the things I have been craving and can't eat with the band as it makes me sick-in one bite! So I will keep you posted on what the outcome is-I guess it is out patient surgery! (drive by surgery I call it)
  12. I don't quite understand the prolapse either. Been doing some research on the net? He made it sound like a portion of my stomach has slipped up into the band? I told him that is how it has looked at the last couple of upper GI they have done on me at our local hos. and He said he doesnt get to actually see those, just a report and maybe the radiologist doesn't have enough knowledge on the band to know what the prolapse looks like. So he apologized for not looking at it under fluro sooner. I love my band-when it works-It's the heartburn I could live without. My husband has been a slow loser with his band and hopefully this fill will get him caught up. Time will tell all for both of us.
  13. More of an update since Sept. I still have been suffering with heartburn. I finally got into my surgeon (not sure why it took so long this time) Anyway he did take a look under fluro this time and he thinks I may have a prolapse stomach. He put me on Prevacid solutabs and wants to see me again in 2 weeks. After the Holidays. It is looking like another trip into the OR to fix this. I have had the band for almost a year now, but trouble with it for the past 5-6 months. I am half tempted to tell him while he is in there to just do by-pass (which I said I would never do) Well never say never-I guess I am a little fustrated and needed to vent. I can't afford another suregery, time off of work. But I hate having heartburn too!
  14. I don't know much about O'Brien, but I had Dr. David Strand in Sioux Falls with surgical Associates and couldn't ask for a better doc. He has great bed side manor, really works with you when you are having to go in for adjustments and I can't say enough about his nurse! Both my husband and I used him! Great DOC!
  15. Welcome Spunky-Where abouts near Watertown do you live? I am in BRUCE-don't blink-you might miss it sorta town-But I love it here!
  16. Both my hubby and I had Dr. David Strand with Surgical Institute in Sioux Falls SD- I can not say enough on how wonderful they have been to work with!
  17. I had it all last week-9 months after surgery-Had some of my fill out Friday-Fine ever since! Doc said it just needs to rest a bit!
  18. I forget to check into this! down -2!!! only 18 to go
  19. Well it is done-and already the difference is unbelievable. After burping everything for the past week, I can actually drink water. He only could find .5 cc, when he put in 1cc in Feb, but just that has helped. I am on liquids for the rest of today then can go back and try food again. I am so tired of mush! He told me to give it a few weeks then both the DH and I are going to have an adjustment. But his time I insisted on FLoro after the time I went through yesterday just finding the port. My GOd am I bruised! Good thing I'm not a belly dancer! Thanks for the support!
  20. Well I am finally biting the bullet and having my fill taken out for a few weeks. I have done nothing but PB and Burb for the better part of a week. I called my doc and he wants to take the fill out and let things rest for awhile. I have mixed feeling about it as I thought I was doing really good losing, even though slow and don't want to stop. But I have been unable to eat anything unless it is mush for about 2 weeks and it stinks making different meals then my family. We have always modified things a bit, but this has been what they eat I can't absolutley not tolerate. I know it is only for a few weeks, but I am afraid to gain the weight back now!
  21. Ok-this is sad and I just told the DH I need to go shopping. I have on white granny panties that practically fall off of me as I haven't bought anything new after I started losing weight. And To match a boring white cotton bra too! Is that exciting or what!
  22. I would do by-pass-since tha band I am no longer considered insulin resistant which was a huge relief to me. There is a long history of diabetes in my family and my mom is one of them . She had a kidney transplant just over a year ago and is doing great, but is having a hard time keeping weight off, he nepherologist suggeted GB and she is looking into the band, but they are thinking Medicare will not pay for it. My brother-in-law had GB and is doing well although he has had a few complications (hernias). My husband wishes he would have chosen GB instead of the band as his just doesn't seem to be working for him, the way mine is? WHo really knows?
  23. I need some motivation - so I'm in-I'm at 224-I want 20# in 10 weeks, but 24 would be even better! I will add a picture later!
  24. I'm not from Iowa-SD-up by Brookings- but I had Dr. Strand in Mckenan from Surgical institue in S.F. Wonderful!!! My sister's friend had Dr. O'brien-and Loved him! Best of luck!
  25. I was dx with Insulin resistance a little over a year ago. One of the reasons I decided to have the band was to lose weight and get this under control as diabetes runs in my family and my mother had a kidney transplant due to diabetes. I am very happy to say I had my yearly ob-gyn check and they did a fasting lab on me. All my bad labs, glucose, triglycerides (bad cholesterol) and HDL (good cholesterol) were all bad last year at this time. This year they are all normal to excellent with a little over 50# weight lost. I love my band and am no longer considered insulin resistance, but was told to keep an eye on it!!!!
