I'm leaving for San Diego in the morning (from Houston). I am scheduled for surgery on Tuesday morning. Like you, my first impression of doing this in Mexico was negative but I have found so many positive comments I am REALLY looking forward to it all. Feel free to contact me directly, especially after I return next Friday, in case you have some specific questions about the journey that I might be able to answer. I am using a different doctor and hospital, but the process should be similar. Good luck!!!

    Good point.
Like most of my sweeping philosophical dissertations one size does not fit all, and I will mischaracterize some who have thought this through in careful detail and have arrived at a position at odds with my summation. My desire was to offer support to those who by personal experience or by the ham-handed bantering of acquaintances and relatives have relegated themselves to inferior emotional positions due to the surgery. I did not take into account those who have other reasons for their reticence to reveal.
    My apologies.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. My decision to not tell everyone I've had VSG has nothing to do with shame or embarrassment. Honestly, I get resentful that people automatically assume the reason I choose not to share is based in embarrassment and shame. I AM proud of the work I've done to lose nearly 60 lbs. That doesn't mean I am willing to be some sort of poster child for WLS nor does it mean I want to explain to people I'm not particularly close to the ins and outs of what is going on.
There's a difference between it being a secret and it being private. I actively choose not to tell most people I had VSG just like I don't think they need to know I had emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy or a hernia repair and ovarian cyst. For me, its private information.
If that's not the case for you, great! More power to you. I am sure you are making the right decision for *you.
But a little appreciation that I'm making the right decision for *me would be nice. Not to mention not labeling your rationale for why I've made that choice with negative emotions without knowing how I feel or even attempting to understand my position.

What does your daughter say?? I know girls mature faster than boys, but it's your fear of your daughter's treatment at the new school that's driving you. You need to go to a counselor with her. This is a big thing for an adult to wrap my head around. If you want it for you that's fine.

I so appreciate your honesty - it's nice to have the point of view of someone who did not stay perfect. I would say most of us have food issues in our heads, not so much our bodies. We eat for any other reason than hunger. This is the first re-gain story that has been shared - but, you didn't let it get far, and you're working on turning it around. Good for you!!

My RD recommends that people make their own pizza using the lite Flat-Out flat bread, which is low in carbs, high in Fiber, and has a good amount of Protein. I believe she crisps up the flat "bread" in the over first and then adds a little Tomato sauce, cheese and protein. It's not something that necessarily appeals to me but it's a good substitute if you really have a hankering for pizza--and you could work it into a low-carb/high protein way of eating. I think you could probably eat about 1/3 to 1/2 of those at your stage post op but it depends on the person. One strict rule my surgeon has is that once you are on solids (after 6 weeks), you can eat for 15 to 20 minutes and that's it. Anything you didn't finish in your meal gets put away or tossed. Sometimes when people say they are eating something like half a sub or a piece of pizza it's because they nibbled away at it for 45 minutes or an hour. That goes beyond a meal and qualifies as grazing. It's also important not to drink with or right after your meals or food will get washed down your stomach and you will feel hungrier sooner.

Can't say I even desire eating pizza. maybe the cauliflower crust one when I get to goal. It's probably best to avoid such high calorie filled foods until you are in maintenance stage or you're going to defeat the purpose having VSG. Think healthy.
So.... No, in my book it's not normal to eat an entire slice.. Whether you can.. I guess that's up to you

I will be 7 weeks out this coming Monday and I wouldn't even attempt to have a slice of pizza yet for a variety of reasons. Whether or not it is normal depends on who you are talking to. What would your surgeon or NUT say about having a slice of pizza? If they are okay with it, then that is great that you are able to tolerate it.
As for myself, I would be very nervous and scared that I would start to fall into the same habits that got me in this position to begin with. I personally need much more time to help ingrain more healthy habits and food choices before I would be comfortable trying some of the foods I enjoyed before.

I've not tried to eat a whole slice of pizza.
Though I'm sure I could! (I'm nine months out)
But at seven weeks out I'm sure some can and some can't and some don't.

Amen! Being only 9 weeks out, I am *not* a vet but I do recognize that I've made many bad choices along the way or I would never have needed WLS. I was always smart enough to realize my mistakes but stupid enough to make them anyways. No more!
I will not enable people who want to put themselves at risk. Even more importantly, I cannot stand by silently knowing that people who are reading but not participating in the discussions are getting bad ideas and advice from the enablers. (I was one of those for almost a year pre-op!)
Name calling by strangers on the Internet holds little value and I've been called worse by better in real life. We are all in this together, IMO, and I will happily join Team Assholio before I will patronize bad decisions.

I appreciate the patience that the more seasoned folks have since I imagine every question has been asked at least 100 times. The fact that any of you take the time to share your experiences and guide us through this journey is truly a gift. (I have only been on this board for a few weeks and if I read one more question about the 3 week stall....I want to have an auto response that tells people how to search)
It seems like there are always people who come here want to get only the answer they want to hear. On the internet, you can keep asking and even if a million people give the same answer they just want to hear from the one person who validates their decision.
The posts that disturb me are the ones where they are newly sleeved and want to know how to cheat the system just days or weeks after going through the surgery. What are they thinking? Don't they want to succeed? They spend all this time and energy working to getting the surgery and then want to know if it is OK to not follow the instructions of professionals? I am just bewildered by them.
In the end, they may not hear what they want to hear but they are hearing what they need to from the folks on this board who are brutally honest. What they choose to do with that truth is just another factor in how successful they will be in the end.
