I had a different experience. I was told I was mentally stavle and seemed to know exactly what I was getting myself into, but I had to do a full psych eval which was a serious of three bubble-answer tests that repeatedly ask you the same questions worded 5 different ways. She then evaluated that I did not feel like I had a strong enough support system and required 4-5 counseling appts. They then wanted that counselor to write a letter saying she KNEW by my bosits that surgery would be a success. She wouldnt say that because you just never know. So she told them I knew what I was doing and I am persistent. They accepted that. But even though it took awhile, I found a great counselor who I like! She has no agenda and it is nice to have someone be excited for me....

Hi Everyone who took the time to read this. This is my first post I have been reading up on a lot of great information to prepare me for my journey. My first Drs. appointment is tomorrow so I am very early on in this process, not sure what all will happen tomorrow but I am very excited to get this rolling, I have already had my seminar, my family doctors visit (I go every 3 months due to the multiple heath issues) and now were just at a waiting point for my nut class and my blood work, ekg, chest x ray and because Im over 50 I have to have a stress test I hoping this all gets scheduled before I leave his office tomorrow....Wish me luck!

Hey there, Janie! Welcome to the boards--it really is a great place to ask questions, get a sense of all the different experiences that are out there, and get yourself prepared for this huge change. I'm pre-op too, hoping to have a surgery date given to me after my psych workshops next month. It definitely does fly by once you start getting a few appointments under your belt.
Congratulations for taking this step towards health and happiness for YOU!

This was nothing at all for me, filing out the paperwork took longer than the actual visit and I met with a social worker not even a psych. Mine just mainly went over the paperwork I had filld out and those questions were just general questions about your over all health why you want the surgery and asked if I had a support group he is actually the one that told me about this site. It was a very pleasant visit nothing at all to be nervous about and I didnt feel like I was being judge. Good luck to you it will be fine.

Today I hit a major milestone. I am now the lightest I've been in at least 15 years. I finally weigh under 200 pounds. It was so exciting to see it on the scale. I've been dancing around it for a few weeks. I am just thrilled with my new body as it emerges. Is it perfect? Certainly not but I'm embracing it. I can do more with my body than I've been able to in a long, long time. I am spending more quality time, active time, with my children. I get dressed and feel like I can go out with my head held high. I'm really proud and love the sleeve for helping me get there!

janie2024 reacted to Joy0125 in Hair loss... My story
My hair is important to me. It was one of my biggest concerns about having the surgery. Well, here I am over 5 months out and my hair is fine. I read lots of stories about clumps of hair coming out and cringing at the thought. I talked to my doctor about what I could do or take to prevent it. His advice to me - don't do or buy anything special. Eat right and make sure you get your Protein in and take your Vitamins. I asked him about Biotin and he told me not to bother. That is exactly what I have been doing. Has my hair thinned a teensy bit? Sure. It is noticeable? Not at all. Do I have hair on my clothes more often? Yup. Overall the change in my hair is noticeable to me but no one else. Now I realize everyone's story is different, but I wanted to share mine with those who are thinking about the surgery or early on post op because I am sure someone else is/was probably as worried as me.

Also don't judge me because I lied.. I'm sure I'm NOT the only one who lies on their license

Why lie and who cares what people say is my opinion
They don't pay my bills or live in my body to judge me or my decisions to help me be healthiest I can be. Maybe by being upfront it may help others make this life changing decision that someone at home is not supporting them on....I think when people judge (anything) its because they don't understand and its easier to cut someone down.

I haven't had surgery yet, but personally I plan to be open & honest about it, because it's too hard for me to keep up a story - I get confused about who I told what. That being said, if someone straight up asks me how I'm losing weight, I'm going to say something along the lines of, "Lots of healthy eating & exercise. I also had a vertical sleeve gastronomy done." For some reason, there's a lot of people who will get super judgey if you answer simply, weight loss surgery.

Welcome Alex and all you newbies! Congratulations on your decision to change your lives for the better and best of luck on your journey! The pre-op diet is hard, I won't lie. I was a basket case for the first 5 days but it got easier after that. If I can do it, crazy sugar-addict that I am, then you can too!

Welcome to all! I wish you all great luck on this journey. I began mine back in Nov when I went to my first seminar and now my surgery is Monday May 13th. This site has been a total blessing to me, anytime I'm filling insecure I know my fellow sleevers have my back. They've even kicked me in the butt a couple of times when I was filling unsure. I haven't done as well on my pre-op as I thought I would but I'm down a little weight and so excited to get my sleeve and begin my new life
