Don't worry about it........be yourself and truthful............otherwise you'll only hurt yourself in the long run.
Every psych eval is different.......they want to make sure you are in the right place for surgery (mentally).
I've never been treated/diagnosed for depression....however, before my son's funeral I was prescribed atavan because I was freaking out "a bit" LOL At the eval, we talked about everything under the sun, family, relationships, the loss of my son, and everything went fine....then she asked how I felt about my weight, and that's when I cried LOL I was embarrassed, disappointed in myself....yada yada....
Some people said they had to fill out a questionnaire....but that wasn't the case for me.....
in fact, if I find myself struggling and going back into bad habits, I will seek out her help for therapy.....she did say that if I find that I'm experiencing anxiety post op, and sometimes people do, that I may want to go back on atavan for awhile and seek therapy--it was an evaluation, but I also benefited from it as well.......good luck!

Many people lose weight on their own. I've dropped 70-80 lbs at least 3 or 4 times over the past 20 years. It never stayed off though as I resumed bad eating habits.
I had a former neighbor who lost 100 lbs by cutting out everything except lean Protein, fish, veggies and some fruits. She was on Oprah's 100 people who lost 100 lbs show.
Have you attempted losing weight on your own in the past? What were the results?
It won't hurt to lose weight prior to surgery. It would put you in a better place for surgery and recovery.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

I'm almost 3 weeks out, on pureed foods.....I eat very slowly, tiny bites.....but a couple times I eat that one bite too many, and I just feel very very full....I'm starting to recognize the stopping point....

I struggle to get in 64 ounces a day.....and so frustrating to be at the gym, thirsty and only get in 2 sips at a time rather than guzzle a more---I was drinking almost a gallon a day preop....can't wait for a few more weeks when it gets easier.

Muscle does not weigh more than fat. A pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat. Muscle takes up less space and is more dense. You are burning fat and building muscle. I'm guessing if you are tracking your measurements you will notice bigger number results. Also your clothing will tell the tale.
Quit weighing yourself daily and try to break the mindset that a plateau or stall is a bad thing. Our bodies have a lot to adjust to with this surgery and subsequent deficiencies and weight loss.
As long as you are making good decisions fueling your body then your results will make themselves known.
In the mean time remember, you've traumatized your body with this surgery. Try not to second guess how it adapts to this trauma. Make good balanced choices and do a challenging yet safe exercise regiment and quit fighting nature.

I like the Premier Protein drinks.....but they are premade, and are not thick.....besides a huge case at costco, you can pick up a 4 pack at walgreens to try them out......I was told Walmart also had them.

I've been told the 30 minutes before and after rule as well. I recently went to a WLS support group and saw a demonstration explaining why....it's about being feeling satiated and prolonging how long the food stays in your stomach to keep you full longer.
The demonstration included a bottle, funnel, and applesauce......the funnel was put over the bottle (the funnel represented your stomach) and applesauce went through it very slowly...remember we need to chew our food to applesauce consistency....they added a little bit of Water, and the applesauce came running out..
So, if we're drinking while eating, we will need more food to keep us satisfied and not feel hunger....possibly resulting in eating more that we should.
That may simplify things a bit.....but seeing it as a visual was memorable.....HTH

Now let's be fair about this. Speaking from a guy who no longer has anything resembling Man Tits. Not any more. And that is your point, right, you are improving yourself, and do not see why he is not interested in doing the same. Here is what I felt after reading your post. Okay, you have made a decision to change your life - AWESOME and conrats to you. BUT you would not need that change if you (and I and many many more) had not let ourselves go and made many a bad decision. So you have decided that you want more out of life. Here is my question. How long did it take you to make that decision? Presumably a while. What about him? how much time does he get? If you start looking great - or at least a ton better, is that an encouragement for him? I would only say that none of us - peeking into you life with 5 lines of information - have the answer. But I think a spouse has a little duty to help make changes in us as well. I was a stud athlete, professional, world ranked - that is what my wife married. Then 10 years in I got fat, not big, fat. She stuck by me and put up with my beer drinking and over eating. Now I look good again and I am so glad she is here. But you know what, she is 30 pounds over weight - maybe more - but that is okay. I love her for her. She stuck by me when I was a pig. 30 pounds on her at 5 feet tall is a lot - but I will work with her to get her lower - she wants that and I want that - why? because we are still in love. 25 years of her putting up with my retarded self - and we still care. My guess would be that there is more than just the weight issue. It may be an indicator of the relationship - maybe the weight is not the issue, it is that desire you have for more, and he does not have that. Again, it is easy to be Dr. Phil with 10% of the info, but make sure that it is the weight that is a problem, and not the lack of drive and ambition. Here is why, anyone (with great effort) can lose weight - not everyone can have that desire to move up and be determined for success. So I will get off my "Mr. know-it -all" soap box and wish you the best of luck - love is easy - marriage is hard - make sure you are carefully assessing you issues. And best of luck on your weight loss journey.

PGee reacted to luckysmomma in Be honest - does anyone regret the surgery?
Yep, I regret it. I have had no complications except dehydration & I have lost 72 lbs...and I am just over 15 weeks out... I move more toward peace & acceptance with this terrible decision each day, but there's not a day that goes by that I don't wish life had a rewind button... but most people love their sleeve & love their decision to have wls. I am in a very small minority that happen to not love their love & not love their wls decision. Best of luck to you.

PGee reacted to supbanana in why do people hide it?
Because when people know about it, my weight becomes the sole focus. Every time we meet, "how much weight have you lost?", "you look great!", "have you heard about the new tapeworm diet??". Im a very private person, and with telling people I feel like I'm under a microscope that's focused solely on the size of my ass. My weight is the least interesting thing about me and I find the topic both boring and uncomfortable. I'm not at all ashamed of the surgery, but I went through it so that my weight would no longer be an issue. If I tell people, it becomes THE issue.

PGee reacted to 2btrim in So many people here have skinny faces!
I guess I can't complain, my face is just naturally slimmer. However, by the time I get to my goal weight, people will be telling me I've lost too much. I am a pear, I carry my weight in my lower half. So by the time I reach my goal to be the size I want to be in pants, my face is going to look very gaunt. I've been thinking about how I will respond when people say I've lost too much, I think I'll just turn around, bend over and say " tell it to my ass"!

When my sister had her surgery years ago, I was excited for her, overwhelmed with the speed of weight loss, and would constantly ask "how much did you lose this week?" I'm sure it was a pain in the rump, but she never complained, and everyone and their brother would ask her nonstop about her weightloss and question what she put on her plate.
Four years ago my only child died.....and well meaning people concentrated on it..... 2 and 3 years later people still focused on it....and it was so hard to heal and continue on........I do not want people to focus on me, how much weight I lose, nor what I'm eating......it's no one's business.....and where I work, I'd get nothing done......so my hubby and above mentioned sister know, and that's it.
