Magnesium Citrate-- Question for Surgery Vets
It takes 30 minutes to 6 hrs. Honestly, out of the hundreds of times I've given magcitrate, I've never seen it take 6 hrs. Usually 30 minutes to 2 hrs. Good luck!

Surgical sites
Did you maybe have tape around your incisions? I didn't have staples on my incisions; I had steristrips. But some people are allergic to the adhesive in medical tape. Hope this helps. And hope it clears up soon!

NEW** self-pay in Louisiana or nearby
Just to update this topic: I was sleeved on 6/11/13. I did choose Dr Borland, and I've been very happy with my care from him, his staff, and the staff at the surgical center. Thanks for everyone's help. I would've never heard of Dr Borland without VST. The price was $ 9800 + $270 for preop tests (labs, X-ray, EKG).

fascinated by changing taste buds!
I don't know if I necessarily dislike foods that I loved before, but I can say there's food that I don't want out of anger (that's the best way I can describe it). Like, my husband and I used to eat out all the time- hibachi fried rice was my favorite food group- now, I'm disgusted by the thought of it. I'm mad that I ate so much of it the past few years. Hopefully that attitude continues. But I used to think Greek yogurt was disgusting, and I eat it now...?? The thought of it having more protein makes it tastier. Lol

More than 6oz per hour?
My doc's instructions was 1.3 - 3 oz/ hour for the first week. And honestly, that's all I could get in. But everyone is different.

Drain Tube
The drain helps to prevent fluid from accumulating at the surgical site. The part inside your body is a flexible tube with little holes. It connects to a collection container outside your body (usually looks like a hand grenade- but some are different). I've never had one but some patients do complain that it feels sore or bothers them that they have to tote this around.

Ensure,Carnation Instant Breakfast, Slim Fast
My surgeon suggested Carnation Instant Breakfast... But the NO SUGAR ADDED one! Be careful with that. And I add unflavored protein powder to it. It's working well for me.

Postop: Week 2
Don't be discouraged! 19 lbs is awesome!! My first couple days of soft food I made tuna salad (tuna, eggs, a little light mayo, and a small piece of pickle) I blended in my ninja until it was about baby food consistency. I also eat Greek yogurt for breakfast. Today I ate an egg (well, most of it anyway) that was mushy/runny. Tonight I'll try to make chicken salad but I plan on leaving it just a little chunkier than my puréed tuna- just so I can slowly get used to a thicker consistency- baby steps. I hope this helps you!

EXERCISE 3 WEEKS POST OP
I've been walking about 30 mins a day and doing other exercises about 30 minutes a day. I just started off small... Ok, I'll walk to that mailbox and back. Then the next day I'd walk two houses past that and so on. Once I got started with the walking I had much more energy. I plan on increasing each day until I'm walking enough.

Frustrated Beyond Belief & Having Second thoughts ...
Keep your head up! I know you might not want to hear this- but they may have been a reason your surgery was delayed. Everything happens for a reason? This is just part of YOUR story! 1) shoveling it in? Haha. I'm 3 weeks out and I don't want to even think about solid food yet. Yesterday was the 1st day I ate 3 oz together- 2oz tuna salad + 1oz Greek yogurt for dinner. 2) I never had children, so I can't compare the pain to a csection. But I can say I survived with no pain medication - but hey, everyone's different. My pain was pretty mild. 3) like I said, I'm only 3 weeks out, so I still consume very little. I eat about 2 oz for Breakfast (yogurt or cream of wheat- something like that) -- a Protein shake for lunch (8oz, but takes a while to get in), dinner- (a little tuna, tuna salad, tonight I'm making chicken salad! Mmm) and of course I sip Water all day-- I'm getting around 50-something oz of water a day. But that took practice-- the first day after surgery I only got in 5 oz of water. Good luck!! I'm sure everything will come out great!-- maybe not like you planned, but great!
