  1. I had an appointment with my surgeon this afternoon, and tomorrow I'll be getting my lab work, chest X-ray, and EKG bc my date is June 11th!!!!! Just wanted to share my joy! Yaaaahoooo!!! lol
  2. I worry about this too. Especially if I'd need a PEG tube/ feeding tube- I'd be afraid they'd "pump" too much into me! Ick!
  3. My fellow OCDers. --- a friend of mine told me to replace the word "obsessed" with "dedicated" ... I like that!
  4. Glad I'm not the only one!!! Maybe in our case OCD is "normal." lol
  5. Why do you have to wait so long??
  6. I have a friend who had weight loss sx a few months ago. When I asked how long she thought about the surgery before having it, she answered, "14 days." !!!! - that would send me into a panic. LOL. I have a lot of resect for you- to make a commitment and jump in like that. Brave! Love it.
  7. That's how I feel: obsession= preparation. Haha Surgery last week??? How are you feeling??
  8. Ok my fellow nurses.. I have a med question for you guys: I've read a comment that someone was able to get off synthroid after losing weight... Could this be possible? Can losing weight improve thyroid function?? I've never heard this to be true, but have any of y'all heard this, read about this, experienced this???
  9. I'm not sure if this is a personality flaw or what, but I am absolutely obsessed with all things gastric sleeve. Do any of you feel this way?? How long have you guys been researching into this procedure? I feel like I've done a good job of not buying too much stuff yet (a suggestion I got from you lovely people) but I think, read, and probably talk about it too much- my poor poor husband. Haha.
  10. Great video! These types of videos helped me make my decision to have surgery (I'm preop). I'm thinking of making videos as well- just to keep myself accountable- seems therapeutic.
  11. I bet it feels great to lose those health problems! CONGRATS!!!
  12. I began researching weight loss surgery quite a few months ago. I was originally considering Lap Band (at the time, I only really knew about Lap Band and gastric bypass). After reading much info, talking to patients and doctors, and watching countless video blogs, I've decided VSG seems right for me- I like that it seems to have great results, relatively few complications, and it won't require an implanted band. Of course I'm a bit nervous about this journey, but I believe the alternative (living fat and unhealthy) is worse than the struggles of weight loss surgery. I'm happy to say I have some great people supporting me- my husband, mother, great friends, and awesome coworkers/friends. Not everyone is fully supportive- in fact there has been a couple friends that I'm shocked don't agree with my decision for wls- shocking because they are over-weight also. Today I finally had enough courage to phone a surgeon's office. I've decided on Dr. Borland in New Iberia, LA. Just making the initial phone call was such a relief. His staff seemed really nice- I answered a few health questions and she answered all of mine. Next step = saving cash. $$$. I'm a self-pay as my insurance pays for no wls. But that's okay. I plan on saving some and financing a little. Dr. Borland charges $9800 plus the preop tests and hotel stay- by far the most reasonable price in my area. Right now, most of my anxiety is about paying for this surgery: will I be able to save quickly? Will I be able to get a loan? Will I miss much work? Will I be able to afford this as soon as I want it?... Hopefully everything works out well in that department!
  13. Awesome! I actually just passed up a vacation to go to Disney World because I'm too afraid I can't fit in the rides. I'm looking forward to not passing up things like this.. Parties, vacations, serving in friends weddings (ugh, DREAD that!) Oh, and I want to learn to ride a bicycle! lol
  14. I haven't even made an appointment anywhere yet! Lol My original choice was Dr. Bisland in Thibodaux, LA (that's my town). But after talking to a few ppl on here, he seemed too expensive. I've been getting as many opinions and stories as I can about surgeons in the BR/NOLA area. After reading posts on here I found out about Dr. Borland in New Iberia, La -- now I'm leaning more towards him bc the price seems awesome, and I've heard some really great things about him. He advertises a price of $9800 (I'll be a self pay).... I'm actually calling his office tomorrow! Eeeekk!
  15. I'm really happy to be hearing about Dr. Borland. He's only an hour away from home, yet I never would have heard of him without y'all. He is def the best price I've seen anywhere around. Thanks!!
  16. I'd be okay with traveling if the travel expenses still didn't exceed the usual price here, but Mexico is a no. I'm not comfortable going outside the US.
  17. Can't wait to hear about your experience. I am also considering Woman's in BR.
  18. Thanks everyone! I'm happy to be seeing less than $20,000 from y'all.
  19. How much have you been quoted? (if you don't mind me asking)
  20. I am! I've been contemplating/ researching VSG for some time now. So, no date set just yet, But because I will be self pay, it'll take some time. Nice to see so many nurses here! I've been a nurse for about 4 years now. Currently working in M/S and loving it.
  21. Hi! I'm in Thibodaux, LA... Anywhere near there: NOLA, Baton Rouge...
