  1. I don't see you doing anything wrong - welcome! You could update the information in your profile so we can get all up in your business get to know you better.
  2. I would call him tomorrow and ask - better to find out whether it's an issue or not now than to have him test you later and find out.
  3. Sorry, forgot to answer these. I would highly recommend one. The simplest ones are not expensive and just tell you your current bpm. Usually they consist of a chest transmitter and elastic band and a receiver that fits on your wrist like a watch. The one I have is a bluetooth transmitter that snaps onto a chest strap that talks to an app on my smartphone. I believe I paid $75 for both the transmitter, strap, and app. I'm on my second Polar device - I've had good luck with both and recommend them. I'm not familiar with other brands and was hoping others could chime in.
  4. (Thanks for posting this! ) So you walk into the gym and step on the treadmill. You press the start button and the belt starts to move. The speed says it's set to 0.5 - is this fast enough for your workout? There's a girl a couple of treadmills over and she looks like she's running pretty fast - should you try to match her? The guy on the treadmill in front of you isn't going as fast as the girl, but he's going faster than you - should you be going as fast as he's going? A heartrate monitor will tell you if you're training at the right intensity for what you're trying to accomplish. You start out by determining your maximum heart rate: subtract 220 minus your age (a 30 year old's maximum heart rate would be 190 (220 -30 = 190). Unless you're training to be a world-class athlete, it is not necessary to work at 90% - 100% of this. The goal for fat loss is 50% to 70% of your maximum heart rate. So for our 30 year old, she's aiming for 90 to 133 beats per minute. You don't have to worry about the math as you'll plug in your age to the device and it'll tell you where you are. Here is a chart that might help (click on it to enlarge)
  5. This is the way my doctor does it. I left nicotine forever in 2006 and have never looked back - I smoked for 16 years and dipped for over 10. I went through WAY TOO MUCH trouble to quit to ever take it up again.
  6. Give it one more shot and see how it goes. If he motivates you, good. If he does nothing but berate you, tell him to shove off.
  7. I can't say enough good things about heartrate monitors. I have the Polar Wearlink Bluetooth and an app on my smartphone called "DigiFit". DigitFit talks to MyFitnessPal so my workouts get posted there without much effort.
  8. Praying that everything goes smoothly for you!
  9. We don't always think before we speak - sorry. But yes, you are pretty now!
  10. Thank you for sharing this - I hope to, one day soon, post my own NSV over diabetes!
  11. Misleading label - should say "no sugar added to the sugar it already has" . Still, 3g isn't terrible for a snack.
  12. I was told my bariatric doctor would be one of my doctors for the rest of my life.
  13. Ok how is it "no sugar added" but the nutrition label says 3g of sugar? http://nutritiondata...ry-queen/6664/2 Makes me wonder what else they're lying about!
  14. I'm pre-surgery but started taking supplements so that I'd be in the habit of taking them after the surgery. 1 Centrum Silver chewable multivitamin twice a day 1 calcium citrate 500mg chewable three times a day 1 500mcg B-12 sublingual dot once a day
  15. I'm so sorry for your losses - just a thought: sometimes God means "not right now" but we mistakenly hear "no" - miracles are possible. And if he meant "not this way", there are many kids waiting to be adopted and I'd bet you'd make an excellent momma. Hang in there! On the flipside of guys, I read here just the other day about a woman that told her man she was having the surgery and he told her "I only date fat girls" - you're right, if he's not considering the woman inside first he doesn't deserve you! Don't dwell on your past - unless it's an uplifting memory don't waste your time on it. You have enough to keep your mind occupied learning this new lifestyle we're entering. Concentrate on the wonderful future that is waiting for you, the NEW IMPROVED happier excited-about-life you.
  16. There are loads of threads here about this. Someone even did up a Word doc but I couldn't find it. I hope this helps: http://www.verticals...app=forums&st=0
