I think what really happens is that after losing the belly you look down and go "oh my God I haven't seen YOU in a while!"

The only time it's really noriceable is the first few months after surgery.... I'm five months out now, and most people to be honest with you don't care about what you're eating - they're too involved with what THEYre eating

I would definitely say that it's possible to eat more now at 4.5 months postoperative than I could the first month out, but I'm really not all that hungry, and I find that I am still Satisfied on WAY less food than ever before in my life. However, all of the slider foods, like carbs, crackers and the like, really go down easy and you still have to make a conscious decision to NOT eat that stuff all the time! BUT staying away from that junk is MUCH easier mentally for me than any time I can remember in my life! not sure how much of that is mental, and how much of that is the physical limits of the sleeve, For me personally, my desire to eat bad stuff has gone WAY down....

orthoman got a reaction from MIJourney in How much time off before returning to work?
Had surgery on Friday, was back seeing pts in the office the next Wednesday, but I didn't feel very good, and my office manager said I looked "yellow".
Didn't operate on anyone for two weeks, though.
    Wasn't that thoughtful of me?

orthoman got a reaction from Sydney Susan in protein drinks opinions
When I was in early postoperative, I drank the chocolate Protein Drinks, and for the life of me, I couldn't figure out who the idiot was that thought people who needed Protein wanted to drink a nasty sweet chocolate flavored drink! It occurred to me then that someone should invent a beef flavored savory Protein Drink, but now that seems gross, too!

orthoman got a reaction from Firëfly in Ideas for what to tell people?
It's just so much easier to tell the truth - plus, you might just really help someone who really needs to talk with someone who's been through it themselves.
Yesterday I met a patient who is really obese, and her hip is wearing out quickly and she's only 48 years old. So even though I just met her And I'm her doctor, I told her about my experience, and now she's going to see my surgeon.
I feel that I can use my experience to help people.
When you tell others, they are almost always supportive. I don't worry too much what people think about me as long as they keep it to themselves

orthoman got a reaction from MrsG in When can we drink soda
I think an occasional soda is fine, just like an Occasional drink is fine. You aren't gonna die if you have a diet coke! I used to be really bad with them though, and now four months out I can tolerate maybe a half of a diet coke , but the carbonation does fill you up quickly. I've learned to obey the signals when my stomach is full - when I first feel full, I better stop. When I get the hiccups I really really should stop, and then anything beyond that, I'm in danger of puking....but I'm sure it's different for everyone...

I get hiccups when I am full. It's my last warning telling me that if I keep going, I might see something I've just eaten again very soon...
