Truckerchic_M reacted to ljperez in Spouses reaction 2 weight loss
I live in boston too. My husband was really against me having the surgery. It has not been easy but it's been almost 5 months and he is coming around. I haven't started shopping yet so I'm still kind of frumpy since my clothes are getting so big but he still makes comments like I thought you would be skinny by know and it doesn't look like it's working. It does get to me and I feel bad for a while but I just keep telling myself this is not about him it about me now. I loose at my own pace and he is feeling insecure about all the years of me being insecure and him being "the better looking one" and now the table has turned. I love him and am not trying to hurt him in any way just "trying" to not let it get to me and hope he will come around. I see it working he is doing so many things that he never did before around the house and with the kids so I feel it's a great thing that I'm not making a big deal about it. All these years of me being afraid that he would leave me because I was fat it turns out that he feels this way now and it was kind of a control issue before with him. The only thing I would say is don't play into it and it will get better. He "thinks" he is loosing control but it was only because we let them have it in the first place. It's about us now. I hope this makes sense I ramble sometimes.

My hubby couldnt keep his hands off of me even at my highest weight (242) but now that Im losing (currently at 200) he chases me around even more. Good thing I can run faster now lol. He wants to take me shopping and buy me new clothes and is always telling me how good I look. Im 42, he's 50 (but a super fit sexy 50). I couldnt ask for a more supportive loving husband.

Thanks Dawg for pointing out the whole Protein thing. I know OP stated that she is going to cut her protein in half at least for the next couple weeks.
Lets look at this a bit closer. As originally stated, 120g of protein from liquids alone. Plus she is eating also. Well, even the best protein supplements are 100calories per 20g protein. If she is using a Meal Replacement shake, like ensure, for protein, then you can quickly quadruple that number. So without even going to weight gainers we have anywhere from 600-2400 calories a day from liquids. Additionally she is eating also, we do not know what or how much. It is quite possible that even with a proper sleeve to over consume and gain weight.
I for one have never experienced any restriction to liquids. I could easily consume 10,000 calories/day on a liquid diet if I so chose to.
I've seen it numerous times on this forum where people get sleeved and run straight for the highest calorie Proteins they can get.
I am not saying that this is what the OP did or that this is her fault, I am simply pointing out that there are a lot of assumptions being made in this thread.
To assume that any surgeon would botch a surgery intentionally or simply not perform the surgery while claiming to have done so IMO is pretty preposterous. With the amount of liability surgeons assume every time they cut into a patient it would take an idiot (one not smart enough to get through med school) to even consider this.
As to the possibility of a stretched sleeve(pouch). IF the sleeve was properly formed, it is not going to stretch. However, if the surgeon failed to remove the fundus then, yes the fundus that is left will still be pliable. Though this is possible, I don't believe it could have been stretched much in such a short time frame. Keep in mind the only thing that is going to stretch the fundus is solid foods.
I am not making any assumptions as to what the problem is, however the only 2 conclusions that I can reasonably come to is that either the sleeve was not formed correctly and thus, a "resleeve" should be performed, or there are too many liquid calories being consumed.
Well, I guess there is a third "reasonable" possibility. It could be a combination if the two.
Any which way, I wish the OP a sipped resolution. And a happy life.
AND YES, we have had members that have experienced improperly formed sleeves which didn't function properly. As a matter of fact, I know both dr. Ponce de leon, and Dr. Aceves have performed resleeve a for that exact reason.

I always liked seeing photos pre op...hell I still like to see them now. So here you go!
I just under 9 months out and down 172 lbs (about 20ish pre op). I follow the 600 -800 calories/+60 protein/+64 oz fluid/-40 carbs. I haven't really exercised and maybe walk a couple of miles a week. I am overall more active and I do plan on starting regular exercise soon. I have had off plan days but I can count the number of "cheats" on both hands. I wanted to get to a normal bmi quickly and this is what has worked for me. I am a few pounds away from "normal" and want to lose about another 20. Enjoy!

Truckerchic_M reacted to RickM in How many calories do i need to eat?
The 6-800 calories is a common level amongst those plans that provide specific numbers, and it's a good place to start. If you run on the high side (and 1000 is on the high side,) the risk is that you move into maintenance mode before you reach your goal. Your calorie burn will be declining some as you lose weight and don't have as much to carry around, so if your normal calorie burn that provided a stable weight before surgery was around 1500 calories (not an unusual number for women of lighter "should be" weight or build,) then you don't have much of a caloric deficit to drive your weight loss, and little room for the common calorie creep as you progress. I ran at about 1100 during my loss phase, but I have a guy's metabolism with fairly high lean mass and was stable at 26-2700 calories, and am now a fairly lean 185-190, so had a lot of room to play with. If your "should be" weight is in the 100-120 lb range, then you probably don't have a very high calorie burn and will need to stay on the low side of the calorie range to get all of the weight off; if you are a taller, larger build woman with a healthy weight of 150-160, then you have a bit more to play with (and be honest on your build assessment - we all are "big boned" to start with!)

danyellhoweth 24.1 lbs - thats how much weight you've lost in 40 short days!!!! WooHoo
like all my predecessors said you are doing great, walking, eating right, -(patting your tummy at the same time too??)
you are losing perfectly
don't worry, don't be hard on yourself -
its true - we didn't go to sleep one night, all of a sudden "heavy", same respect to waking up one morning..and all of a sudden be thin- won't happen no way no how!!!
weight will continue to come off - you/we can hurry the weight loss process with your proper eating and exercise, but the truth is - the weight will come of when "it" is ready to
god grant me patience, just hurry up about it
keep "up" the good work, while you watch your weight go "down"
good luck

Just curious and not judging but if your addicted to something before surgery and that something helped to get you to that point of needing surgery, why risk having that something again after?

Truckerchic_M reacted to eclipse in Ow ow ow!
Since I can remember, ie like age 8, I've gotten unwanted and sometimes inappropriate attention from men - yes men. I'm now 40, been through therapy, highly educated and maybe even more in touch with myself than some others. It doesn't matter, the attention is uncomfortable and I honestly don't like it. If you are not a woman, I'm not sure you can ever understand it.
That doesn't mean I can't take a compliment and I understand that more often than not people are currently genuinely interested and maybe even happy for me, but none of that knowledge takes away the discomfort.

It's a double edged sword. It's to be noticed and recognized for the weight loss efforts on the one hand but on the other hand, I am still the same person I was before. I remember after having lost 100 pounds in my 20's, getting a ton of attention and feeling so angry about it because of how sad it felt that nobody would give me the time of day before when i was fat. It's really pathetic that society puts so much emphasis on looking perfectly to the point that people feel more comfortable talking to skinnier people, that it's easier to get a job or promoted when you are thinner, etc..... We are the same person inside whether we are fat or skinny and our worth should be the same but society places to much value on our external selves.

Truckerchic_M reacted to RickyDee in I hate my medical group!
The biggest mistake I made was alienating my surgeon's group and then leaving. Later, when it was time for maintenance assistance, they refused to see me, and no other Dr would touch me.
Many things that people dislike before surgery are so important, even though yours sounds a bit excessive. Listen, EVERYBODY needs to slow down before surgery. Take into account that everything you do before surgery will benefit or harm yourself after surgery.
