  1. Sounds like they need to be educated a little more on the surgery and how just "not so easy" it truly is. Maybe you should have them visit the site and read all the posts. When my aunt had gastric bypass 2 years ago I had the same thought, "she's taking the easy way out. If I can't lose it on my own, I must not want it bad enough".....but I do want it, and failed for over 10 years now to lose. After seeing all the problems my aunt had, who honestly didn't follow any of the rules given and being 2 years out and still throwing up with most foods..I really didn't want to have the surgery. But then I was diagnosed with diabetes and decided to research, as I really didn't want the gastric bypass. I am almost 4 weeks now with my sleeve and am so glad I did it. I left the hospital off my diabetes medication, and the weight and inches are coming off steadily. I have had absolutely no problems at all, other than still trying get all my liquids in. I feel very lucky though, as some haven't been so lucky. But everyone is different and as long as you're prepared and ready for this journey, you will do great. And soon enough, when they see how great you're doing....I bet they may just rethink it themselves to. I think they're just scared is all. Anyway, good luck and I wish you the best.
  2. My nut told me I should only get up to 700 calories a day to and I was sleeved on 12/19. I'd do what your Dr. says, but maybe change up your diet and decrease your carbs (20g) and your calories to 700, and increase your water for a day or 2, then go back to your normal routine. Might jump start you again. Good luck.
  3. Hi fire water, glad to hear you guys are loving your sleeve. Keep up the good work.
  4. No I'm not, I asked my nutritionist because I thought it counted to, but she said the 64 oz. liquid is in addition to the protein shakes.
  5. I am 3 weeks out and I have a protein shake for breakfast, egg/ham mini-muffins (x2) or cream cheese for morning snack, then chicken, meatballs, ham/cheese roll ups, beans/cheese or something like that for lunch and dinner. My protein shake in the morning gives me 1/2 of my protein for the day....then I try to eat something with at least 6g. of protein every 3-4 hours....once I get all my protein in for the day, I focus on liquids. Which I'm still only getting in about 32 oz. of......still working on increasing that. It's harder that it sounds. lol
  6. Are you taking prevacid, or something like it? At only 2 days out you still have a ton of swelling, just get in what you can...it'll get better every day. Good luck!
  7. You should only weigh once a week, then you won't notice those little stalls. You should also take your measurements, because when you're not losing weight you're probably losing inches....your body has to catch up to! I had lost 7" in 12 days, will be doing them again plus taking new pics next Wed. at 4 weeks out to better see the changes my body is making. Good luck to you both...don't fret about the stalls...it's all part of the process.
  8. Try premier protein, have 160 cag. 1g. fat, 3 carbs and 30g. protein; they are pre-made and are pretty good. I get them at Sams club. And don't forget, you can add 2 tsp. of sugar-free jello or pudding mix to them to get a variety of flavors. Vanilla with lemon pudding mix is the bomb; Chocolate with cherry jello mix tasted like cordial cherries....just to name a few. Good luck on your surgery and hope you have a smooth recovery.
  9. Maybe you just had too much acid in your tummy and it mixed wrong; or maybe you're becoming lactose intolerant. I haven't experienced this yet....and hope I don't.
  10. Crochet or needle point; yoga; walk......sounds like you want to eat your anxiety away.
  11. Actually smoking can cause ulcers in your stomach, and make healing more difficult. My aunt quit prior to her surgery because they wouldn't do it unless she did; she then went right back to it and had a bleeding ulcer and was told to quit or it would never heal.
  12. Try taking a few melatonin. That's what I use and it works great. It's natural (like what's in milk or turkey) and isn't habit forming.
  13. Congrats! My advice, remember why you're having surgery and keep you eye on the prize. The post-op pain, diet, etc. sucks and gets old quick, but it gets better everyday and soon you will be eating normal foods again just a much smaller portion. Breathe deep, try to remain calm, and enjoy the ride. Good luck and I hope you have a quick and smooth recovery.
  14. Congratulations and hope you have a quick and smooth recovery. You'll love it after the liquid diet is over...
  15. Hello, I would not say the sleeve is starvation. Yes you have to do a liquid diet for awhile, but by a year out you are able to eat a regular meal. You are to eat protein first to help keep your muscle, then veggies for nutrients, and by then you'll be too full for carbs/sugar. It is a change that you have to commit to, because it is just a tool. Personally, I think it's the safest tool of all the WLS just because your stomach will work the same as it always has, just be smaller. There is no rerouting of the intestines, which can cause malnutrition. And always take your vitamins. I love my sleeve, and I don't feel like I'm starving at all, cause I'm never hungry.
  16. Hello and welcome. You will find tons of support and info here. Good luck on your journey and I wish you a quick and smooth recovery.
  17. I'd say no, just cause they can expand with juice in your tummy.
  18. I'm not a Dr. or a Nut, but I've found that if you log in your stats into myfitnesspal or another weight loss site, that whatever calories they give you in order to lose 2 lbs. a week you should cut in half. According to what I should have and what my Nut told me to eat it's exactly 1/2. Just an idea, but your nut should definitely tell you about how many calories to be getting.

So today I had my first follow up with the surgeon. I'm down 21 lbs. since day of surgery and he said I was doing exceptionally well considering I haven't had any pain, vomiting, nausea, BM issues, or problems with what I've eaten so far. So I've been told I should make some goals that I hope to meet with help of the sleeve. I honestly don't have many, but here are a few. 1. To not be a diabetic (met 12/20, was released from hospital off my medication) 2. To be below 248 lbs. (that will be the lowest I've been since 2000) 3. To be below 200 lbs. by my 42nd birthday. 4. To ride a horse, without feeling like I'll break it's back. lol 5. To go to an amusement park and ride all the rides I haven't been able to. That's about it. I guess now I need to figure out what rewards I want to give myself when I meet these goals. Not that meeting them isn't a reward in itself.
  20. Just keep dropping stuff on the floor and squat to pick it up. lol
  21. Welcome to the site, you will find great support and info here. Good luck on your journey.
  22. And if you can get it done by the robot, I'd do it. I didn't have any pain or problems since surgery, and I really think the robot assisted surgery is the key. Not as much trauma on the muscles, etc.
  23. Welcome, you will find a ton of great information on this site. I to was set on getting the DS, and my surgeon was only 1 of 2 Dr's here in NC that specialized in it. He told me my BMI wasn't high enough and he didn't think my insurance would approve it, but said I could do the 1st part, which is the sleeve because I wanted to keep my pyloric valve intact. I did a ton of research before deciding what surgery to get and alot of studies showed keeping the pyloric had better longterm success. Well come to find out my insurance did approve the DS, but by then I had read alot on the sleeve and decided that it would be sufficient for my weight loss and that it was less risky due to no rerouting of anything. I like the fact that my stomach works like it always has, it's just smaller. I was sleeved on 12/19 and follow up with my surgeon today. I saw my nut on 12/31 and was down 14 lbs. and 7". Last time I weighed I was down a total of 18 lbs. You will do great, just know the risks, and follow what your Dr. says. You will notice on here that every Dr. has their own set of rules as far as pre/post-op diets, restrictions, etc... I follow the rules I was given and it is working for me. Good luck on your journey to a healthier you!
  24. I'm only 3 weeks out and haven't had a problem with anything I have tried, although I haven't gone off program, so we will see if that holds true with veggies, steak, etc...
  25. Try it without the cheese, maybe you're lactose intolerant since the surgery.
