So, my husband and I decided to invest in some 6 flags season passes that go through fright fest this year and next. I went to fright fest this past Saturday and was terrified and have an underlying fear of being turned away from rides (since it happened at my highest weight) but now that im over 120 lbs lighter than my highest I thought id give it a shot and guess what? I rode all the rides my heart desired without any issues or embarrassment. it was probably one of the single greatest moments of my life. To someone who has never had to worry about it, it would seem silly, but to me it was like winning the lottery. I loved it so much that a friend and I went back to six flags on sunday for a few hours so I could experience it all again. (we're actually going again the 26th!) This is definitely my greatest NSV--- why don't you share some of yours that keep you going when things get tough?

If telling people you're gay is "coming out of the closet", what's the equivalent to telling
people you had WLS? "Coming out of the refrigerator."
That said, I really didn't care if people knew I'm having WLS. However, recently I've told a few
people and now regret it due to their reactions. For now on I'll go with the "galbladder" story.

First mistake was that you looked around at the others who were there with you and judged yourself the worst one there....this will be an issue you will have to look at later on after your done the surgery and working on your head issues...
All the fears you have are legitimate, and warranted, but the big picture is you and what is best for you personally...
There is a small percentage of people who have trouble after surgery...Majority don't....You have to do what is best for you not those other people in the room...
Head up, strong and forward to a new and healthier you.....Stop being so hard on yourself....Please learn to love yourself...k

That was so funny! I did have a woman ask me when my baby was due and I looked at her and said "about 4 o'clock when the bus pulls up n drops her off"!!!! The look on her face was priceless.
My last appointment is dec 2 and then it'll be time to talk to her and get everything scheduled.

I had swollen ankles for several years before the surgery. I had pitting edema down both my shins, and was starting to swell in my feet near my toes. One week post op and it was all gone. 3 weeks later, everything still looks nice and depuffed lol I keep looking at my feet and saying "I have bony feet??!"

Hi. I just went from band to sleeve today! I had my band for 4 years and was going through the same thing. As far as pain, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Good luck!

Of course you should tell the surgeon. Now go google "meditation" and listen to some calming music:) It's going to be okay.

I'm going to be having the surgery in November. Some of the things I'm looking forward to have already been said, like being able to run around with my 3 boys, fitting in chairs easier, and being healthy. I'm also looking forward to being able to get down the aisle of the school bus when I go on field trips with my boys. Also hoping to lose this hip and lower back pain. Sometimes I feel way older than 33. I'm just so over it!

My mother-in-law had to finally say I looked very nice (after 20 yrs)!
Seriously, off the BP meds, and my severe disc degeneration is 100% times better. I can actually move without pain now! Best thing I ever did.

It's still weight related, but it felt great being able to fasten an airline seat belt again without needing my extender and also having the tray table fall where it's supposed to fall and not be held up by my thigh meat. I will probably still carry the extender with me as I can't get used to it and follow my whole protocol of carrying a jacket or sweater (yes, even in the heat) just in case and still try to hide the extender inside my iPad case.
I think about all the flights I took before I bought my extender where I would just hold the seatbelt over my lap and cover up with my jacket because I was too ashamed and embarrassed to ask for one even though I always felt that I was so wedged in the seat that I wasn't going anywhere. I still feel wedged in. Seats are still tiny and I'm still tall and my knees still hate it when people recline, but it's not AS bad as it was.

Lipstick lady. Just add "Bless your heart" to the line, "Why would anyone ask that question?"
And remember, if it's a secret it's a secret until to tell ONE other person.

I only took one week of vacation from work. Counting the weekends I was back to work on post op day 10. Told my coworkers I took a "stay-cation" . I'm almost 6 months post op and I have lost about 65 lbs. I tell people I've lost about 50 lbs. tracking my food on My Fitness Pal. High Protein, low carb and 1200 calories a day. Early post op when I went to lunch I had plain yogurt in from of people (dumped half of it out before they sat down!) I'm a nurse in a surgical area and we do lots of bariatric surgeries. I hear how judge mental my co-workers are so I had surgery somewhere else. Nobody's business.

I told people that NEEDED to know that I was having surgery for whatever reason that it was for "girly" things (truth--I'm a girl). I tell them I am doing a medically supervised high protein/low carb diet (truth), exercising a lot more (truth), I am measuring/logging everything I eat (truth), and that I cut out a lot of the bad stuff (truth-- my tummy!). I tell the truth about how much I've lost, too.
All that long drawn out subterfuge would make my head spin and quite possibly explode. When someone asks me a personal question that I don't want to answer, or one that is rude, I simply smile as if they are an idiot and respond with, "Now why in the world would you ask someone that?". Shuts 'em up every time.

I tell most people that I had surgery to fix a hernia ... which is true. If they inquire as to why I'm losing weight I tell them I'm on a high Protein low calorie diet .. which is also true.

Only say you're getting your gallbladder removed if you actually ARE.. otherwise, if you ever have to get it removed for real, then that's another cover story you'll have to invent... If you really feel you need a cover story, you could say you're having a hiatal hernia repair...And it's something in the digestive system, so it would require the liquid diet and all that.
Personally, I just didn't say ANYTHING. That left my options open so that when I was ready to, I could tell people. I waited until I had lost 100 pounds and then just casually told people about it... kind of like in an "I can't believe you didn't know" kind of way.
