Well you got me to thinking so I called the dr. office and found out.. My doctor uses a 40, unless there are other issues involved. Mine will be a 40.. and I am 5'6", long torso female. He also staples, cuts, and cauterizes the "seam" to lessen the possibility of leakage.. I am less worried about the surgery itself than I am what life would be like if I don't have it.

You are so much nicer than I would have been... about the point she shot of her mouth, I would have spun on my heels and let her have it with both barrels with a finger in her chest, knowing me... I hate rude behavior and I won't abide it. Not only was she disrespecting YOU, she was disrespecting those others and that just shows how small and shallow she is...

Ok... I had my blood work done nearly two weeks ago and I will be the first to admit that I haven't followed all the rules... I had to go to soft foods before most people because I couldn't tolerate any of the Protein drinks out there... I have pretty much eaten anything I want within reason, just not very much of it...
And the results are in... All my Vitamin levels were well within range except B1... Turns out the One a Day gummies have virtually NO B Vitamins... so tomorrow I have to go get a B1 shot and after that, I will be taking a B complex supplement until I am all out of the gummies.. Just bought a new bottle don't ya know... LOL..
After they are all gone, I will be looking for another Gummy that I can tolerate and has what I need... Protein and all levels were good... Yippee! Oh and I just broke my first stall... FINALLY!
Life is good... learning to cook small portion items so that I can have stuff to carry to work.... About to start night shifts after the first of the month.. this should be interesting...

suegirl reacted to Fiddleman in Cravings!
Lucky for you! My wife still eats all the junk around me and I have just learned to ignore it and stick to plan. After a month or so of following good eating habits, the cravings really do subside and don't torment you. Also a person should be careful of the extra carbs here and there. A person may find it a lot easier to eat low carb as to not awaken the carb monster that lays dormant in each person. Eating carbs may be a little like throwing kidding on a fire causing the desire to get stronger and stronger until there is no choice but to satisfy the crave. Believe me, I knew all about this before the surgery and it would spin my insulin levels out of control, wreaking havoc on energy levels and mental well-being. Today I am pretty level headed and have a healthy approach to daily living that no longer is enslaved to the evils of modern day food choices that are full of sugar, salt and fat.

I graze too. I would have a small portion cheese, turkey pepperoni, turkey slices, yogurt, egg salad, tuna, baked Beans, etc. every 3-4 hours. I would also have a few raw or cooked veggies with these mini meals for more variety and nutrition. I was able to get my Protein in this way only. It kept my metabolism up and I made goal. As long as you graze on the right foods it should be ok!

I hate the gym too. I pay and never go. So I am looking into things I do like: walking, yoga, pilates, boxing, dancing ( I want to try Zumba or Jazzerise). If is fun, I am more apt to do it. I'm also hoping that by going to a group exercise class that I make friends which will motivate me to keep coming. As a last resort, I will rejoin Curves because at least then you get a workout in less than a hour and since I hate working out, the less time the better.

I don't mean to sound rude but something doesn't smell right with this... A doctor that would do the surgery on someone not considered obese? Her profile is misleading.. it says both presurgery and that she had surgery on Aug 25... Even at 5'2".. 150 is not considered obese.. that is only a 28.2 BMI...

Please don't give up at this point. The 2 week post op is the time when many people have a stall. Your stomach is not gurgling because your hungry, you have a lot of gas in there. Are you taking a PPI? If not, when you talk with your surgeon, ask about taking a PPI (nexium, prilosec, omeprazole, tums, maalox). Make sure your getting all your liquids in. You will lose this weight, eating small amounts like 700 calories, can only result in weight loss. It only takes time. Hang in there!

I have to disagree on a few points.
    1. This is a forum. You can find support here, but you can also find discussion and disagreement. Thank God for that. I've learn a lot and even learned a bit from the OP of this thread.
    2. Purely cosmetic bariatric surgery for people of normal weight that want a tool to help them starve themselves? I do understand using the sleeve and a revised surgery, but not for people not in proven need of it. I still believe this is last resort territory. We all signed on with the possibility of living with complications and a forever altered gut and in the case of malabsorptive procedures - a life of daily supplements and a very special diet.
How many people in for the 90 pound supermodel body are going to eat right and make a commitment or will they continue on with poor eating, alcohol and amphetamine use that goes with the culture. Sorry, but obese people have to make a commitment to fix their head and get healthy.
Sure, people can do whatever they want as long as I don't have to pay for it. I'll be in the insurance pool with someone who want to get healthier, but I'm simply not paying for someone's self-esteem. Just as in cosmetic procedures, there is potential for abuse. I mean, why not just take out the stomach altogether and live on IV fluids? Yes, people do this at least short term for now. Excuse me, but this is SICK!
    http://articles.nyda...des-nasogastric
    and finally
    3. The sleeve does not teach you to eat healthier. That is the commitment I was talking about. It is a tool for restriction only and with the right (or wrong) mindset you can easily eat around it or develop other addictions to replace food. I've talked with so many that replaced dumping alcohol down their gullets instead of food and have ended up right back in the super obese category.
A lot of the above is IMO of course.

Please don't over dramatize this... I simply asked questions about the factors that didn't add up and the inconsistencies in her profile.. in case you haven't noticed, there are scammers on these pages and as a result, you have to be careful who you are talking too... and FYI... unless she has NUMEROUS co-morbidities, a 28 BMI is still questionable finding a surgeon that would recommend, much less do something so dramatic on someone so young as she... and please note that we have gotten updated information since her original post...
VSSupermodel... if you have lost some weight and you just had the surgery in August, I would talk to your nutritionist if you have any questions about how fast you are supposed to lose.. the lower your starting number, the slower most are to lose their weight.. slower is also better simply because of elasticity issues..

    1. God, is that you? No? Then what makes you think that you know what anybodies motivations are for this surgery.
    2. Please refrain from making completely false statements. I've never heard of anybody losing their stomach due to a tummy tuck or a boob job. Neither have I heard of anybody losing their life from complications in cosmetic surgery.

I was one of the posters who was kind of shocked that a physician actually performed this surgery on someone who was 154#.
BUT, after reading VSSupermodel's subsequent posts it is obvious she is poised, self aware and very intelligent. Maybe VSSupermodel intuitively knew that if she did not take precautionary measures she may very well end up like most of us here...obese or morbidly obese. If that is the case, well I can tell you that had someone said to me 30 years ago that they could prevent me from the pain and self loathing I've carried with me my entire life, I would have had it done it a split second, without hesitation.
I do have concerns that this surgery is primed for abuse--- think about it....real supermodels who already starve themselves to the size of anorexic teenage boys will want to have this surgery in order to starve themselves more comfortably. And I have no doubt there will be physicians lined up to cash in on it.
So, VSSupermodel, please accept my apologies for my initial "shocked" post. It's very obvious you've thought this out and I wish you all success! And by the way, you certainly handled all the negativity with a great deal of poise .... very impressive!!

Iggychic, I don't think that anyone here has been mean to the OP. We've questioned why, or at least I have, but I've never judged her and if it has come across as such then it's wording or how someone else reads my words.
My concern is will this be the latest trend for already skinny models? The OP has added more info (thank you for that) so obviously this isn't the case for her, but it sure started a bunch of thinking that..but not being mean to her. I've always tried hard to be kind and considerate on this forum, no matter what the views. I think its sad that when we question someone without being intentionally hurtful we are suddenly marked as being mean. It's called learning about each other and educating each other. I'd like to understand her reasoning and I've said that in many of my posts.

I don't think anyone who is "shaking their head" in disbelief is angry at the original poster. I think a lot of people who have posted or reading this topic are wondering (as some have already stated) why would a doctor do this when there are other alternatives (jc and ww for example) another doctor would have suggested. Then I think there are some who are a bit shocked how many hoops with their doctors, insurance companies, etc. they had to jump through and some still be denied a life-saving surgery and then see someone (anyone) do it for a cosmetic reason. It just happened to be a person on this forum. I have no anger for her, and she's probably not the first one to do it. If she wishes to tell her story, that is entirely up to her. I hope she achieves her goals.
Please see the other side of why people are questioning her so closely. I see people getting denied this surgery every day. I see the struggles of people trying to jump through the hoops of the insurance company and psychologists, etc. and see the frustration. They're exhausted, mentally and physically, of trying to get through. I think seeing this post could make one exasperated, having so many obstacles in their way and the frustration of having to lose at least 50 pounds seems like climbing Mt. Everest.
I don't see people hating on the original poster, I think everyone here is more sensitive to weight issues than most forums. Any sort of criticism seems to turn into a "you're just saying it because you hate fat people now". We're all here because we had the sleeve (or going to), and we are connected for that.
