pink grace got a reaction from Cheer Mama in Fibromyalgia; Arthritis; Nerve Pain
x
hi, i have fibro, diabetes type 2, osteo arthritus, ibs, asthma, high blood pressure, neourothopy in my feet, gout, acid reflux, sleep apnea, and will be waiting to hear about anyone with chronic pain like us, who have had the sleeve. i know that the fibro wont be cured but reckon less weight to carry around will be easier for me and the people who help me, i have been concerned how we will get our meds down, and if the op will be more painful because we are more sensitive to pain.

pink grace reacted to mactrio in any sleevers who are disabled and have fibromyalgia
I have fibro, RA, Sjogrens, asthma, Pre diabetes (oral med's only) & take a tons of med's. I was told to only take my prempro & Bystolic the morning of surgery, I need to use my inhaler as usual and bring rescue inhaler with me for surgery.
My rheumatologist told me he will adjust my med's as I lose weight. My GP will adjust other med's as needed.
My advice is too just keep track of all med's taken, any side effects as you lose weight.
Congratulations and good luck!!

Hi, i would be interested to know how you coped with the surgery, did it cause a flare up, and were you able to take your usual pain meds, i am on tramadol, gabapentin and paracetomol and if i dont take them i cant stand the pain, i have amytryptilene, and alupurinol for gout too, plus many more meds, i have several chronic diseases, am hoping less weight will help my joints and enable me to go swimming, the only exercise i can do, thanks, xx

It takes time to adjust. It also takes committment and stocking the cupboards with healthy Snacks so that you don't totally return to old habits that will result in weight gain. You got the surgery to lose weight, don't let yourself fall into self sabotage. In the beginning there were times when I just cried - missing the comfort of my go-to (food)....but I let the tears come, and deep breathing, and putting into perspective in my mind. We can't depend on that crutch anymore if we want to succeed at this. I find that we eat so little, as long as your Snacks are the right ones you will slowly start to come to terms with this new life. My snacks include a few grapes and a couple of cubes of cheese, or a handful of nuts, a cheese stick and sliced apple, or some olives.< /p>
Good Luck!!

Re the hair loss... Before I started my wls journey... I had elbow length THICK hair. I got to about 17/18 weeks and my hair started to fall out, just a little but then it progressed, I could pull handfulls out. I'm now 18 months post op and my hair although shorter after chopping it is growing back.
good supplements are zinc and selenium!

Definitely talk to your NUT, but in the meantime, this booklet might be helpful--it was posted by one of the other VST members in a different thread and it has very detailed information about not just diet, but other things to know pre- and post-op.

You know, I'm agnostic, but I've never understood why people have to join a conversation between followers of God and criticize them for talking about it. I may not be a believer but I understand and respect that the belief is very important to so many people.
OP I'm sorry I know you said you didn't want any non believers posting, but I can see that your friendship with your friend is important, as is your relationship with God and I can totally respect that.

For those who believe, prayer and God's promises are a great comfort, He promises never to leave us and He is right there with us, every step we take, or wait, lol, as is my case, so good to have this forum, I've decided that nice people get sleeved, lol, :-)
