JustSayMoe reacted to jzbornik in FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
I was sleeved on tuesday. I was in hospital one night and got out yesterday. I thought that was pretty good for everything that goes on. Im in some pain. But its not to terrible. Just kinda wondered when some of this pain will go away? I cant wait for some of this weight to fall off. The day and a half I was in hospital I gained 8pounds. But I think that was from all of the I.v. fluids. Overall my experience with dr. Glascock and his staff has been awesome.

Ok. For those of you who are finding it hard to get in all of your liquids, the diet my surgeon has perscribed for the two weeks after surgery has been doing very well for me. Of course, Follow your own surgeons directions but I hope this may help some of you that are having difficulty getting your liquids in.
Instructions:
1. Consume 4 ounces of liquid per hour. (1 ounce every 15 minutes as tolerated)
Include 2 ounces from Clear Liquids list and 2 ounces from Full Liquids list hourly.
Do this every hour you are awake (at least 12 hours) to prevent dehydration.
2. As part of your liquids, include 8 ounces of a Protein supplement per day in 1 ounce portions.
3. Do not begin eating solid foods until directed to do so by your surgeon.
Here is a list of items that my surgeon suggested:
Clear liquid:
*Fat Freem broth or Bullion (cubes, granules, or packets)
*Sugar Free Jello
*Sugar Free Popsicles (None with fruit bits at this stage as the bits could cause harm to sleeve)
*Water and sugar free Water flavor packets 10 calories or less- i.e. Wyler's Light, Crystal Light, Kool-aid.
* Decaffinated Tea & coffee (can use splenda, equal, stevia, or sweet-n-low)
Full Liquids:
*Protein Supplement of choice
*No Sugar added Carnation Breakfast Essentials
*Mashed Potatoes (thin, no lumps)
*Low Sodium V-8 juice (only during this 2 week phase)
*No sugar added frozen yogurt (no fruit bits)
*Sugar-free custard or pudding (thinned)
* Light yogurt (no fruit or nuts)
*Skim, 1%, or 2% milk, rice milk, soy milk, Mootopia HEB Brand High Protein Milk (Probably only my fellow Texans will know about the Mootpia!)
*Cream of Wheat, Cream of Rice, Malt-o-Meal (thinned)
*Blended, Strained, Creamed Soups ( Blended cream of potato made with skim milk, no lumps) (this is very yummy)
Foods NOT Allowed:
*Sodas (not even Sprite)
*Solid Food: until directed by surgeon
*Fruit Juice (my surgeon recommends that you no longer drink fruit juice)
*Smoothies or Milkshakes (also never recommended)
*Stews or chunky soups: (until directed by surgeon)
* Honey or Syrup (don't add chocolate syrup to milk unless it's surgar free)
*Sugar or candy (Sweets of any kind)
*Protein Bars, Beef Jerky, and Pork rinds
Hope this helps some of you!! I know it's working out pretty well for me, my only problem is staying awake long enough during the day to get continual liquids!

Also, I am off the CPAP machine! I was sleeved 2/4 and have lost 34 pounds. 16 pre-op and 18 post op. Apparently that was enough for the apnea because within 8 days of surgery, I no longer needed it. That is awesome!

Yep, I do. But it's only a snack in the am and one in the pm.
If I waited 30 mins either side of my old style snacking, I be one dehydrated mofo!

JustSayMoe reacted to delta_girl in Sitting in a room full of McDonalds
Look up some of the long list of ingredients that are in a lot of those McDonald's food items and you might quickly lose your appetite for that garbage. That is just about the lowest level of consumable food products that you can get. Its really pretty gross, actually.
I do on occasion get coffee their (plain) or yogurt parfait, and have even tried their oatmeal. As far as the other stuff goes, I haven't been interested since way back in college in the early 1990s. Its crap.

I can tell you why it makes me sad.
Because I care about people. I know what kind of damage I caused myself & how much of my life I missed due to that kind of garbage. All I can think of when I see people shoveling trash into their face is the pain it caused me & how unnecessary it all was.

JustSayMoe reacted to Tstorm1070 in 1st attempt at puree'n
So I am 7 days til surgery and thought.... mmm maybe I will puree some pot roast I made my family. Sounds like a good idea? Got my wizard out and put 2 oz carrots, 2 oz potatoe, 4 oz meat, and 1/8 c broth. It went well... (can't taste it as I'm on liquid pre op)
Anyway it looked good BEFORE I dropped the ice tray full of my tasty baby food looking pot roast on the floor and it soon became dog food! LOL
will try again with another meal (:

JustSayMoe reacted to hollirrose in Can I Ever Have A Diet Soda Again?
1/2 of the people on here believe it will expand your tummy and the other 1/2 think that is a crock. Do a quick search and you will see this topic comes up often and there is always a debate about it. You need to decide what you believe. I do have a diet coke once a week or so. For some the carbonation makes they feel uncomfortable ... For me it works and doesnt send me into an eating frenzy. Good luck!

JustSayMoe reacted to cyncitygirl in New sleeve but iit doesnt feel restricted
Should I be able to drink 4oz of Soup and feel satufied and not overly full? It seems like I am able to eat more than others my same timeline (week and a half out). I can drink lots of Water without any bad feeling. I sip and not gulp but I can do sip after sip. Anyone have initial confusion with what the feeling was asking (hunger, full or thirsty)? I worry I am able to drink too much:0/ I just ate a cup of egg drop soup with no problem.

JustSayMoe reacted to Fiddleman in what is your favorite snack post op
Yes, I gel the seeds for 30 minutes or they are not helpful for me from experience. What usually works for me is that I gel them in Water while I am working through 32 oz of Water in the morning while taking most of my daily supplements. After 30 minutes, I shake in my Protein shake for my first meal. This is at 6 am so works really well because the extra water before drinking the shake will make sure you do not dehydrate on the seeds. I drink before instead of after the seeds in order to keep them in my stomach longer ( stop drinking about 10 minutes before shake). I add 2 tbsp of seeds to about 8 oz of water. I repeat this for my last meal of the day, usually at 9 pm. Find a Protein Shake that works for you if you are going to take them as often as I do for the long haul. I happen to like Syntrax matrix Cookies and creme ( extended release so keeps you "full" longer) in addition to GNC amplified Wheybolic 60 Cookies and creme ( for run recovery).
