  1. I know people have mixed feelings about Jerky. It's good Protein per oz, but it has loads of sodium. After searching high and low in every supermarket around, I think I've found the best in terms of sodium. It's Sprouts brand turkey jerky. It packs a modest 270 grams of sodium per oz. It even beats Whole Foods which is 380 (I think) and the next runner up Oberto which is over 400. Some of the worst brands come in at 660 or more. This is the best I've found from a commercially produced product.
  2. This looks like the same kind of concept. They are all over the DFW area. https://www.myfitfoods.com/
  3. I'll have to check that out. Another thing I like to do is go to Whole Foods with the wife and kids. The kids get pizza slices. my wife gets soup or something from the hot bar, and I go for the chicken and turkey dishes. It's priced per pound and self serve, so you take what you want. Most of their stuff is pretty healthy too.
  4. It varies with me. I wear a CPAP at night with a pretty high setting. If my 3 year old son sleeps in bed with us, then look out. I have to sleep on my side when he's in there. This means too much pressure and lots of swallowed air. No lying, I can bust a 30 second fart in the morning no problem (and probably several more during the night).
  5. Good luck! In my case I couldn't swallow anything until 24 hours post op after a leak test. There was nothing about swallowing saliva. I had no problems tolerating the fluids required the day after surgery. I can drink pretty fast without issue today. I'm more than 2 months postop. If I try to drink too fast, I will have some pain. Like everything else, YMMV.
  6. I felt so bad for this lady. Kudos for her and doctor on publishing this to Youtube. Yes there is a full nudity and full surgical gore, but it's done for educational purposes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFV4cLcxfGw I'm sure I will need some plastic surgery, but hopefully not near as much as she needs. So far everything is still firm except my gut. I have another 100 pounds to go.
  7. Just focus on hitting your goals in terms of nutrition, exercise, and water intake. Take one day at a time. Keep a tape measure handy. You are probably dropping inches and not pounds. I stair step myself. A week to 10 days of nothing and then 6 or 8 pounds in a few day. Rinse, repeat, etc, etc.
  8. NSV today. I had to take a link out of my watch. Too loose to wear. My wedding band is loose too, I'm sure it will need resizing eventually.
  9. I absolutely love the Weight Watchers smoked mozzarella sticks. The jalapeño ones are pretty good too. So much better than a plain old cheese stick.
  10. Those all sound good, I'll have to try them. The Chai sounds very yummy.
  11. I got by with no pain meds either. I'm glad I didn't take them, but a little disappointed that I couldn't listen to my Pink Floyd records while being comfortably numb. Oh well!
  12. I like the jerky too. It's nice to keep at my desk to insure that I get the protein power ups the doctor wants in the morning and afternoon. There are times when I'm on the phone for 3 or more hours straight and can't grab something to eat from the fridge.
  13. I'm a Valentines day sleever. It's my two month surgiversary. I'm down 55 from the date of surgery and 72 from the start of my preop diet (10 weeks ago) . Yeah it's a lot, but when start at 397 the weight loss is much faster due the amount of calories required to maintain that weight. I work out a minimum of 30 minutes per day everyday, but most days are between 60 and 80 minutes. As far as food goes I'm eating around 800 to 900 calories with at least 90 grams of protein (I'll burn about 500 - 600 off at the gym). No problems tolerating anything. No vomiting ever after surgery. I'm drinking plenty, I'll typically stop counting after I hit 64 oz in the early afternoon. I'm guessing that I'm drinking at least 100 oz a day. Everything is just peachy and way easier than I expected. My body still looks pretty good, but I will probably need plastic surgery on my stomach. It's the only place that I'm concerned with at this time. I have about 100 more pounds to drop before I hit my goal. I hope to be there by fall, I know things will slow down with the weight going away.
  14. I don't measure it, but it's just a tiny amount. Maybe a quarter teaspoon in 4 oz of yogurt. One or two packets of splenda and however much cinnamon you want.
  15. Nope. I'm a Texan now! :-) And loving every minute of it! I grew up in Sparta, IL, lived in Belleville, IL and Maryland Heights, MO. My wife and I left Maryland Heights in 2003.
  16. I'm a relatively young Three Stooges fan at age 38. Born and raised in the Saint Louis area (home of Joe Besser). The local WB affiliate used to play 3 Stooges every Friday night from 11 to 1:30 in the morning. My parents had a VCR and that baby was recording them every Friday night. I own a complete collection of the Three Stooges shorts and movies now.
  17. Yep. I was roughly the same weight for 7 or 8 days. Then I dropped 3.5 pounds last night.
  18. I tried something interesting that tasted very good today. I normally buy plain greek yogurt and put in a little vanilla and splenda to sweeten it (I can't for the life of me find greek yogurt without sugar sweetner). I dumped a little cinnamon in there this time along with the usual vanilla and splenda. It tastes awesome! I'm surprised the yogurt makers don't have this as an offering. It rocks!
  19. The cotton mouth thing is absolutely a sign of ketosis. I had it the entire time I was preop and for the first week or two after surgery.
  20. Make sure you hit all of your marks in terms of nutrition, water intake, and exercise. Also, when you stall or gain a few pounds pay close attention to your measurements. You will probably find yourself losing inches and not pounds. When your body resizes the weight loss is put on hold. As long as you remain focused on your goals, you will lose either inches or weight. Not always both at the same time.
