Wow Mzlory, u wrote my whole story! lol! I also was banded, got down to 155-160. I did great up untill 4 months ago. I started to gain and wasnt sure why? Docotor orded an upper GI and yes my band slipped! I had my revision from band to sleeve on Aug 16th at 182, and as of today i have lost 12lbs. My doctor is also not too strick about my diet, he just said to take it slow and to really listen to what my body likes and dislikes.

For all the new sleevers hang on and have hope. The first three weeks for me were the worst . It hurt to drink and to eat . I was depressed hit a stall last week that I still haven't came off of but it's ok. This weekend has been the best I've felt since surgery . I was able to have a selection of foods although in small amounts I had watermelon and seafood salad with crackers, I even ate a salad On a down note I am completly lactose intolerant but it's ok. O yeah I had one egg with provolone cheese and salsa and it was yummy . I hope this encourages someone who having a difficult time transitioning By the way I've lost 39 pounds in a month down 3 dress sizes ))

when i found out that my band had slipped, my doctor then told me about the sleeve. After talking to him for an hour i told him lets do this. I did all my pre op stuff in less then 3 week and had to wait one week for insurance to approve. so it took me all of 30 days, and doctor removed my band and did the sleeve all in one surgery.

WOW! that is just crazy! I am truly lucky, and thank God every day for my job. I have one of the best medical insurance in the United States. I had the lapband and now the sleeve and paid zero out of pocket.

Wow, 30 days...Good for you!! When I had mine removed, I wasn't in any condition to have the sleeve put in. They wanted to take mine out as an emergency (I was already in the hospital) but when my blood work came back in the E.R. my potassium was dangerously low and they had to give me bags of it for 24 hrs just to get it at a "normal" range. If you don't already know, postassium is *no joke* when you take it through an I.V. Thanks for your information. I'm wondering about others also that didn't have the sleeve done at the same time they took out the band. I hope you're doing well w/ your sleeve

jd13 reacted to doxieville in Reason Why No Food For 3 Weeks & Update
    Hi Everyone,
I had my Two week checkup today. It was great! I've lost 12 pounds post-op. It was only 2 pounds of muscle that I lost, the rest was all fat. I love getting weighed at the office because they have a machine that breaks it all down. I've been cleared for exercise, so hopefully next month I won't have lost any muscle.
Dr. duperier, the wonderful doc that he is, spent time with me, as always, to answer some questions:
Stretching Your Sleeve: it is possible to stretch your sleeve, but you have to work hard to do that. One or two meals that are too big won't stretch it out. Constantly overpacking it for months will stretch it.
Gaining Weight or 'Cheating': The Sleeve will fail if you drink sugary liquids. He has seen it happen and it saddens him. That is why counseling is such an important part of this equation.
Losing Weight & low carbs: I thought once I was sleeved that I will always have to eat low carb. Not true. Once I'm at goal weight, I can eat freely, within reason, and Protein always first.
No food For 3 Weeks: The reason is because the stomach needs to heal and not strain itself by processing food. So I was wrong. I thought if any food was pureed, I could eat/drink it. Not so. It has to be full liquids with nothing the stomach sees as 'food.'. So my pureed oatmeal, pureed Soups (other than creamy & broth) are no-no's. There is no such stage as 'pureed stage!'.
It was a very interesting visit. They did my leak test in the office and he spent time letting me drink & watching my sleeve fill up. I even got to see what happens when I overfill my sleeve. I am a renegade! I asked him if I could and he said 'sure.'. It was really cool. No wonder it is uncomfortable.
I hope other August sleevers (and everyone else!) are getting good news from
    their docs!
    Judy

It's a bit disingenuous to suggest the moderation people will fail. Both will learn new ways of eating - the moderation people will learn how to eat the things they like without going overboard and falling into old habits, the strict adherents to a healthy diet will change their entire lifestyle. To each their own - some people are marathon runners, some people are sprinters, and some people like a nice, leisurely jog, but they're all runners.
My issue was quantity and choice. Right now, for example, I'm at a late lunch/early dinner at my favorite BBQ place. Pre-VSG, I'd have the pulled pork & brisket combo platter with fried rice, Mac & cheese and a piece of cornbread. I'd pretty much clean my plate. Today I ordered chicken (nice and moist), took off the skin, put the cornbread aside, and had a small bite of Mac & cheese. No rice. To some people, that bite of m&c would be heresy! But to me, I know where I'm coming from and see the change in my eating habits. I know I'm never going to be that strict, healthy eater, so I know for me, the best thing to do is learn to eat like a better me. I also know that after doing a strict healthy diet, I would fall off the wagon big time and probably make myself sick.
Again, to each their own. What's good for one person isn't necessarily the best thing for everyone and to suggest that one way is right or better than another isn't really helpful to anyone.
