I love ya, Pookey, but UGH! LOL I do think it sounds like a great Protein source for those on soft foods, but I'm not sure I could do it. I hate butternut squash and two kinds of canned meat? Oy vey!!
I did, however, mix a little potted meat with my scrambled egg when I was on soft foods, so I can't say much. Perhaps it tastes better than it sounds.

I'm 18 days out today, and just had my 2 week post-op appointment. They were shocked with how good my incisions look and the weight I've lost thus far. They moved me from full liquids to a mechanical soft diet, which means I got to eat some tuna salad today! I never thought I'd be so excited by tuna!

This is quite common, actually. I believe I read somewhere that there are really only about 3 major manufacturers of laundry detergent. They package the same stuff in different containers, call it a different name and even charge different prices.

see if you can have your PCP order them for part of your yearly bloodwork. some of it should be covered then. then you can have the results transferred to your WLS MD. If your PCP if pro WLS he will help you out.

I know, right? Thanks to her, I am actually looking forward to my new way of eating instead of dreading it. Her Protein shales are amazing -- and like 50 different varieties. I love all of her ideas -- I too am making a little book of recipes of all my favs for my kitchen. I wish she would write a book -- I would definitely buy.

On her advice I bought a Bento box, mini muffin pan, 1.5 cup food processor, small ice cream maker, Torani syrups in about 15 flavors, and pro Max Protein powder in chocolate and vanilla.
I have also gone through every page and copied the recipes I like.
She taught me that eating with the sleeve can be nutritious and fun. After her recipes I couldn't figure out why people didn't like Protein shakes.

I am a control freak also. started musing myfitnesspal.com to log all my food & exercise in. I was doing it pen & paper then I changed since it had an APP for my phone. it works really well. and it gives you a pie chart at the end of the day or week showing what % of Protein, fats & carbs were eaten. Do not force yourself to eat more than your body is telling you to eat. some days you will be able to eat 3 oz of deli turkey and other times I can barley get an ounce in. my protein is my first priority. and if I dont have enough protein for the day (i drink one smoothie in the morning) I get to have eggfaces high protein ice cream (my savior). good luck

dumping is unpleasant. I have to watch every gram of sugar I take in right now. if not WATCH OUT. one good thing came out of it. totally got me off of sugars... I can still have sugar free chocolatae but only one piece.

Hang in there!!....I think we've all had "buyer's remorse" at some point early post op! If you think you're dehydrated then you need to call your dr or get to urgent care or the ER....dehydration is the #1 reason patients end up back in the hospital. I agree with the Popsicles.....they helped me so much!! I also drank a lot of chicken broth at my dr's suggestion because the salt helps you to retain fluids. Just do whatever you can and know that you will get through this!!
I still have days where I feel frustrated that I can't eat certain foods and days when my sleeve is not very tolerant. But I wouldn't change a thing!...the benefits far out-weigh my frustrations

Fish and meatballs sound good to me. I am guessing you are eating with the family? How about doing something to make it special for yourself? Maybe make sure you're eating off a small plate with a smaller fork. I bought some pretty little china plates on which to eat my meals. I also got myself some small pretty glasses for juices, etc. I bought them from Goodwill, so very inexpensive, and I feel like I'm "dining" rather than just "eating".
Treat yourself well and you will feel better. This is especially important during the recovery process. I even drink my Protein shakes out of real glass rather than from the cups provided with the magic bullet. I deserve it! You do too!!!
Making meals an event will, hopefully, help you cope with the reduced capacity, but will also make you feel better about yourself.

Lauranbob Mc reacted to Indymom in Hungry Girl Buffalo Chicken Dip
I went to a bachelorette party last night and the hostess had tons of appetizers out . . . tons of tempting, carby appetizers. I tried to make good choices so I had a lot of the buffalo chicken dip she had made - I was eating it with celery but commented at one point about how fattening it probably was, with the cream cheese, the ranch dressing, etc.
She told me it was the Hungry Girl recipe with fat-free ingredients . . . I honestly would have never believed it if she hadn't told me that. It was SO delicious! I pulled the recipe up online and wanted to share it here. I don't usually do the fat-free anything (I prefer the low-fat) but I would use the fat free ingredients for this recipe because you really can't tell. I could have eaten the whole crock pot full if my sleevie would have let me!
There are 2 different sets of nutritional info - one says that for 2.5 oz it's 104 cal/12 gram protein/5 grams fat/2 carbs, but the other set says for a 1/4 cup it's 68 cals/1.5 grams fat/2 carbs/10 Protein. Either way I think it's a pretty good choice!
    http://www.food.com/recipe/hungry-girl-buffalo-chicken-dip-413265
    Ingredients

2 (10 ounce) cans chicken breasts
1 (8 ounce) packages fat free cream cheese, softened-
1/2 cup frank's redhot original cayenne pepper sauce
1/2 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup fat free ranch dressing
    1/4 cup fat-free Greek yogurt

    Directions

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Place cream cheese in a medium bowl and stir until smooth. Mix in Frank's RedHot, mozzarella cheese, ranch dressing, and yogurt. Stir in chicken until thoroughly combined. Spoon mixture evenly into a deep 8-inch by 8-inch baking dish.
Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, or until mixture is heated through. Stir well and enjoy!
P.S. We love dipping carrot sticks and red bell pepper chunks into this dip, but we've also dunked baked tortilla chips into it and used it as a sandwich spread!
HG Alternative! To make this dish FAST, skip the oven altogether. Prepare dip according to the directions, but in a microwave-safe dish. Then microwave uncovered on high for 5 minutes (stopping and stirring halfway through cooking), or until hot.

LOL at you!! Dumping syndrome is highly unpleasant! Do you really want to be in the bathroom with diarrhea every time you eat something your pouch doesn't like? It could be sugar, but it could just as easily be fat or spicy foods.
My understanding of RNY is that they leave a large portion of your stomach separated off from the main portion of the stomach, so you have restriction, but that area of the stomach is still susceptible to ulcers and stomach cancer. No thanks! Also, the RNY reroutes your food from your pyloric valve directly to your intestines, which means you don't have that pretty little valve down there to hold food in your stomach. This means that what you eat slides into your intestines before it's digested...which is another cause of dumping and discomfort. This also causes malabsorption of the Vitamins and minerals that are present in food. Yes, you lose weight, but not in a pleasant manner.
By contrast, sleevers typically don't have dumping syndrome and can eat small portions of most foods without worrying about dumping. We also absorb at least some of the Vitamins and minerals from our food and we feel satiety longer when we eat. We still have to take vitamins to supplement the food, but the balancing doesn't have to be as precise for sleevers as for RNY patients.
I haven't done tons of research on RNY because I knew someone who had RNY years ago. While she lost her weight, I'd have rather remained fat (and I did) than to have an RNY done after watching her struggles!

Had my last pre-op appointment today & everything is all set for surgery on Monday afternoon. They did a body analysis that showed my weight to be 266.5 (my scale this morning said 266.4), which is down 7 lbs since starting my pre-op diet & 13 lbs from 4/29.
It showed my BMI to be 39.9 - I'm 5'8.5" tall - and my fat percent to be 49.8%!! Yikes!! It said I have 132.5 lbs of fat!
Needless to say, I am SO ready for Monday to get here to have my surgery and start my way toward a healthier life!! On a really happy note, I've been stuck between 274-280 lbs since January even with diet & exercise, so seeing the scale drop to 266.5 with the pre-op diet is amazing to me right now!!
My husband is going to take my pictures & measurements on Sunday to use as my starting point & then he wants to do pictures & measurements every Sunday to keep track of my progress! I think he's just as excited as I am about the surgery, not because he cares how much I weigh but because he knows I care!
Have a great weekend everyone! See y'all on the other side of surgery. If all goes well I'll be discharged on Tuesday evening.
