  1. You figured out the trick to making people not feel the need to stop you and talk. Wave and then remove eye contact. I don't think most people will think you are a witch. I believe they will quickly get that you are trying to exercise and now is not the time. I had a lady try that with me last week when I walked past her. I responded quickly as I passed and before she could say anything else I told her to "have a nice day" and kept moving. I didn't think for a second she considered me rude, and if she did. Oh well, I need this time for me. I spend the rest of my time taking care of and worrying about other people. I have found a lot of heavy people get that way because they don't think about themselves or take care of themselves. That thinking has gotten me nowhere so it is time to change it. Congrats to you on working out when you hurt. I have major back issues too and every lb that comes off makes it easier to deal with!

  2. I posted last week about my fluid problems too. That has actually been one of my biggest struggles. Its great that you are making changes now so that there will be less suffering afterward. I hide my weight well too so I understand your feeling there. I wear clothes that keep it covered and am proportional no matter what size I am. My hip to waist to bust ratio is always the same whether I am 150 or 250. I have exercised and been active for years and I just slowly keep getting bigger and bigger so I don't listen to anyone who tells me to just "pretend I had the surgery". You ever notice the people who say that have never had a weight problem? Good for you for getting prepared and doing something about your weight problem!

  3. I agree with you completely. Ironically, I find I do my best with eating and chewing food to mush when I am driving. It gives me something to do and I pay close attention to bite size and length of chew vs. when at dinner table in conversation. I am sure I am not going to be happy about my liquid diet, but I think I may do better than many. I already drink a ridiculous amount of fluids and have stopped eating midway numerous times so that 30 minutes can pass and I can have a drink. I already prefer drinking over eating because I am so busy I can take it with me anywhere. I have also found a severely decreased satisfaction in eating food when I have to concentrate on every single bite. We do family dinners every single night and I have always been a slow eater. However, now I feel like everyone is done and hoping I will finish soon so we can all get up. It takes a lot of enjoyment out of food.

  4. Check out barnesandnoble.com they have some great bariatric cook books. Also, look at the big picture. You have lost almost a pound a day for a month. You will get there. Its actually better to lose it like you are since you are decreasing your risk of gall stones!

  5. Congrats! That is a huge first step (allowing yourself to feel instead of curling up with Ben and Jerry). You even made the second step by deciding to do something about your feelings instead of just sulking. I hope the book helps you find some peace. Keep us updated! Even though you said you complained in your earlier blogs, I hope looking back helped you gain some perspective :)

  6. It is hard for a caring mom to take anything for herself. If you want to be the best mom you can be you just have to start chanting the mantra "if I can't take care of myself, I can't take care of anyone else". Congratulations to you for not only making a healthy change for yourself, but for your family as well. Your kids will learn from the examples you set when you are eating properly and become more active. Maybe learning from you will keep them from ever having to suffer what you have.

  7. Glad to hear that it is going so well! I think the pre-surgery diet is going to be pretty terrible. I told my family that they will have dinner without me for a week and my husband was going to have to do the cooking. I figure I am already going to be grumpy. Why expose myself to it if I can avoid it. Also, I know you hate trying on clothes when you shop, but I am willing to bet it becomes one of your favorite things soon enough!

  8. I understand the issues you are having. Skin is constantly regenerating itself. It may take some time, but I bet your husband loves what he sees. Its amazing how differently our significant other sees us when we just see a gross mess. Be proud of what you have accomplished. One way or another, eventually your body will even itself out again. Focus on the good things and try not to think too much about the other stuff. Life is only as good as we allow ourselves to perceive it to be.
