Getting a job just for surgery coverage?
I want no no, I NEED this surgery and I would like to get it done this summer. My hubby has a full schedule with school and work in the fall. He is going back for his masters in geology and we are having to pay out of pocket for that. Add in that he makes 25k/year as a troubled youth counselor I am finding NO way to pay for this surgery. We have UHC but they don't cover obesity servies. I am thinking of getting a part time job just for the insurance to cover the surgery. Is there any insurance who is excellent about covering VSG? Who has the least amout of hoops to jump through? Thanks for sharing your knowledge

Aetna is covering VSG
I am thinking of getting a job that offers Aetna. I have UHC but the plan we have doesn't cover obesity services. I'd hate to get a job only to find out they don't cover VSG also. Anythoughts?

Considering the sleeve and assisted reproduction
This is one of the things I'm struggling with now. I have a 5 and 2 1/2 year old. I can leave the 5 year old fine and he understands that I'll be back but it really is hard on my 2 1/2 year old even when I am gone for several hours. The thoughts running through my head are, "Does he think I'm dead? Does he start greiving?" Hubby says after more than 8 hours he gets really quiet and withdrawls  I think I am taking him and my Mom with me to have the surgery done.

Dating and dealing with the sleeve...
I don't think it's any of his business right now. I'm sure you guys haven't told each other everything yet and until you have a solid commitment it really doesn't need to be told if you don't feel comfortable. There is a stigma that goes along with over weight people and WLS and if you can't be sure he will keep his mouth shut then I just would keep it to myself.

Considering the sleeve and assisted reproduction
I'm 5'6" and 270 when my husband and I decided to have kids I lost 40lbs before our first. The pregnancy went fine and I watched what I ate at that time. The biggest issue was not my weight it was health care worker's perception of my weight. Because I was overweight they didn't ajust their measurements for my belly, they pushed for ultrasounds to see how big the baby was, they estimated him to be at least 11lbs at the least at 40 weeks(look at you and your husband, you are both big people). They assumed I wasn't active and ate poorly. With that pregnancy I had a lot of stress and ended in a c-section. My at least 11lb baby was born before he was ready to come on his own at 8lbs 12oz two weeks after that U/S. They said the reason he wouldn't deliever is my pelvis was too narrow (from the fat apparently). With my second baby I had kept on about 10lbs more so I was at 240. With this child though, I had a midwife and had my baby at home. I ate well and stayed active. That pregnancy and birth was a breeze. He came out at 42weeks on his own at 9lbs 12oz. I nursed both of them and the little one is still nursing at 2. Those are my experiences. If you were to have a child and are in good shape (acitve, no other issues) I would say to do it now so that you can eat enough for you to keep your teeth and health because the baby WILL get what he needs you will be the one to suffer. Also so you can nurse your babies. Nursing alone consumes around 500 calories it's self. The only reason you might go ahead with the surgery is that having the surgery would be terribly hard with a young baby and life in general is a lot harder once you have kids so you wouldn't have the ability to recoup after the surgery like you would w/o kids. Depending on when you had the baby you may have to wean him or her early and if something was to happen to you, you would leave behind a baby or not beable to be with your baby for an extended amount of time. I wouldn't worry about the baby getting enough nutrition though, it will be you and your body who suffers not him as long as you don't use any calories for junk food.

Help...Questions & Concerns
As far as the PCP I don't know but that's a question I also have. If you went into the ER I don't see how they could turn you away but other than that I'll be curious to find out as well.

What are you looking forward to?
As I'm searching for a surgeon I day dream about I will do once I have my sleeve and have lost a good amount of weight. I am 270 now so I have about 120ish to loose. What are you looking forward to or if you are already there what did the sleeve make possible for you? Mine are: Shopping at any store and buying cheap and cute clothes. Taking a bath in a regular sized bathtub with room Flirting, even though I've always been fat I haven't had any confidence recently People saying, "Is that all you are eating?" Getting any hairstyle I want without worring about making my face fatter Wearing shorts and dresses again My husband picking me up

Question about post-op dating-for the men and single ladies
I seriously don't think any guy would care or think that far in the future. If you look good at the very moment you tell them you have had the surgery then you are in like sin.

Nutritionist said just go without?
Yes I am! I'll look up Dr. Quebbemann, thanks for the suggestion :biggrin0:

Nutritionist said just go without?
You can buy it canned or bottled at most health food stores like Earthfare or krogers. You can also buy the coconut and just drink the water/milk from the middle. If you get a fresh coconut (with the green shell not brown) it will have a lot more nutrients in it. A neat fact about coconut water is that you can subsutute it for blood in transfusions and coconut is the only food you can live solely off of. I used it after the home birth of my son to gain back energy. Add a slice of lime when it's chilled and it's pretty good .

Anyone Else feel Stupid?
I haven't gotten my sleeve yet but wanted to throw in my 2cents on some of the previous post. As I recall carbs have a lot to do with taking oxygen to the brain so maybe that might be why you feel a little stupid. Forgive me if that isn't exact, it's been 5 years since nursing school. Also for the person having trouble with Whey protein try goat's milk/cheese. We try not to eat cow's products around here but goat's milk is very good for you and easy for your body to process.
