How much is too much for almost 2 weeks out?
I am almost two weeks out and was cleared this week for softs: cottage cheese, string cheese, eggs, etc. I am trying to get all my Protein from food and not shakes. Today I consumed about 435 calories, but this is what I ate: Breakfast: lite string cheese, 1/2 sm cup of applesauce (had trouble finishing the cheese) Lunch: 1/2 C pureed lentil Soup with 1 tblsp greek yogurt; a hour or so later I had 1/4 C egg salad Snacks: String cheese, 4oz greek yogurt Dinner: 1/4 tuna salad I didn't quite meet my protein goal, but close. Also because I had the two Snacks in there I had a harder time with Water. I read about all these people that can only eat a tablespoon of food a three weeks, I don't have any problem. 1/4 cup is about my max, but it goes down fine. Same with liquids. Mind you, I am not complaining, but I want to make sure I am not "messing" something up.

Needing Advice/Help!
How much longer are you on liquids? I am not even two weeks yet and I can have pudding, eggs, cottage cheese, etc. I did like (maybe that is too strong a word) the Jay Robb egg white protein, and the Myoplex carb control RTD

Day 4 post op.
I am day 12 and doing great. Still a little tugging on the incisions, but other than that, feeling fab. I am a little concerned that I really don't feel much different. I am not hungry anymore since I moved on to the next phase of food after my one week doc appt. I am loving egg salad, tuna salad, Frigo string cheese, etc. Today I made a yummy lentil soup, pureed it and then mixed in a little plain greek yogurt. Every once in a while I get a little tired, but I think that is because I am only sleeping 5-6 hours a night (so much energy). keep up the good work all!

OK, it happened.......I had my first pity party
Well, got cleared for mushies yesterday! Woo Hoo! When I came home I couldn't decide what I wanted first. I ended up blending 1/4 cup of navy bean soup that I had made for the family with a few splashes of broth. I strained it to get out the chunks of ham. It was yummy. A little later I also tried a tablespoon of cottage cheese. Everything seemed to sit fine. This morning I scrambled 2 egg whites and served it with 1/4 cup of refried black beans all topped with 1 babybel lite cheese grated and melted. This time I can actually say "my eyes were bigger than my stomach". I could only get down about 1/3 of it. For lunch today I ate a Frigo lite cheese stick and it kept me full all after noon. I just had "dinner" which was 1/4 C of egg salad (I will be eating this for a while; 4 egg whites 2 whole eggs it was about 4 servings). So far so good! I can tell I am going to need to supplement with protein shakes for a while until I get on solids. I can't get in 60g without 'em!

Lori, right now I would kill for tomato soup! I go for my post op visit today, so maybe they will clear me for that.

Probably old news to all the veteran sleevers...
When I looked at the chicken broth I had it home, it either had 0 or 1 gram of protein, but when I looked at the chicken stock, it had 5g of protein (per cup). I will be using this from now on. And, when I get to mushies I will use it to thin down my soups etc with. Just thought I would pass it on for all of the newbies

OK, it happened.......I had my first pity party
I am 8 days post op and I am feeling blue. I think I tried to be too "normal" after surgery. Everything is about food. I go to the grocery store and salivate the whole time;:drool5: dreaming of all the things I can make when I get to mushies and softs; planning meals. Then I come home, lug it all up the stairs, put it all away, and make my family 2-3 squares a day. I about came across the table at my son yesterday when, after I had prepared him a meal, he got up to do something, came back and his food was cold, and then scraped it in the trash. Didn't he know how much I wanted those scrambled eggs and bacon? OK, I am done feeling sorry for myself, but I swear if I don't get something to eat soon it's gonna be ugly around here:scared0: I.M.HUNGRY!!!! I am only having 2-3 Myoplex Carb Control shakes (150 cal; 25g protein) per day and maybe a SF popcicle. I don't want any more shakes. I want something savory. Sweets are yucky.

So glad to hear you are safe and well. You have been in the back of mind since this weekend. The "mommy" in me was worried about you making that drive.

Back from surgery...FOrest Park Med Center
zephra, I hope you are feeling a little perkier now. This Texas heat doesn't help much! I go out and do a few errands and I am whipped! In fact, I think it is nap time now.

Will I ever eat a reular meal again?
Wow Christie! You can eat all of those different things at 3 weeks out? I was figuring I would still be eating cream soups then. There is hope....

Post-Anesthesia
No problems with the anesthesia at all, a little groggy, but that's it. I didn't have a catheter or a drain.

4 days Post Op. Ask me how I am feeling...
Amen to that! I got home from the hospital late Wednesday evening and got up Thursday to a pile of laundry in the laundry room that my daughter was "doing". Then my 17 year old says "So, what are y'all thinking about for lunch", which loosely translated means "Mom what are you cooking me". ReallY? Really? I CAN'T EAT ANYTHING!!! But in reality, it is my issue. I either need to stop catering to their every whim, or suck it up and deal with the repercusions. Hang is there girl! It keeps getting better every day.

Zephra, just checking in.....How ya doing today?

Ummm......
Some people just aren't good "hospital" people. I know my husband isn't. He couldn't wait to get out of there! I told him I would call him when I was discharged and he could come get me. I enjoy my solitude. But he has been right there since I have been home. Asking me if I want a back rub, getting me pillows up prop up with....etc.

What surgery can i tell people i've had instead of telling them about the sleeve?
It is time we sleevers came out of the closet. A lot of people think this is the "easy" way out; let them think that. This is merely a tool, as are exercise equipment, Weight Watchers, etc. We have to make a concious decision every day to "use" our tool to the fullest. Those that know you will know if your weight has been a struggle for you, and don't worry about the rest of them. I am very up front about it with people. I tell them what I am doing and why (family history of obesity, heart disease, joint issues.....) and that I am trying to use everything in my power to overcome this.

I finally get it! I've been starving to death...
Don't know if you have HEB there in McKinney, but it you do, try the Mootopia milk. 12g of protein per cup and fewer carbs! I also have been drinking th Myoplex carb control (the one that has 24g protein per drink (11oz) and then adding in 1/2 scoop of Jay Robb Egg White Protein to boost it up to 36g of protein. Also, I have like the Jay Robb Chocolate Egg White protein (1 1/2 scoops) with 8oz of the Mootopia which has 42g Protein and you only have to drink 8oz (its seems like more once you add the protein to the milk) I am trying to get down two of these a day. It takes me about an hour to nurse one drink. I also added 1Tblsp of the SF vanilla (or carmel) coffee syrup to the vanilla and or a good squirt of the Hershey's SF choc. syrup. Actually not too bad......(I had surgery 6/8)

70% of my stomach is gone! - Update on BandMomsRock
Congrats, and welcome to the bench. I agree with Jerry, the first few days for me have been up and down about "what have I done?!?!?". Today is day 6 and I think I may have turned the corner on that. Keep reminding her that every day is a little better.

My First 5K!!!
Awesome! I can't wait to get back into exercising. I am hoping that as soon as I lose some lbs my knees won't hurt as bad and I can get on out there. Lately I have been dying to run! I don't know where this has come from, but I may give it a try!

4 days Post Op. Ask me how I am feeling...
I am sure that is it. I napped alot my first full day at home and have taken a least a "cat-nap" every day since. Some people respond more adversly than others to the anesthesia. I didn't use my pain pump at all while in the hospital and they sent me home with a "gallon" of loratab that I haven't cracked the seal on. I don't like the way pain meds make me feel. Stay hydrated, and rest. You deserve it!
