I met a 4-year sleever today
I think we must always be accountable for what we put in our mouth no matter if you are at goal or not. You don't have to be a slave to your sleeve but making poor choices for a long period of time will eventually come back and bite you. It's easier to snack more or graze for me at 9 months out but this post scared the heck outta me too, No more grazing!

*7* Truths Post-Op
I really enjoyed these so I'm adding mine. 1. I freeze all the time,I am actually looking forward to summer in Texas. 2. My tastes have changed completely. I love vegetables now and was meat-potatoes girl before. I also eat eggs alot. 3. I have so much more energy. 4.I love clothes shopping but find myself still looking at the smaller clothes and thinking they won't fit...but they do 5.I love exercise now. hated it before 6.I still love to cook for my family but I prefer to eat healthy and will have to work on bringing them over to the lighter side ,7.Had hair, lost alot of hair but it's coming back and was so worth it. 8. I love going to places with my husband and not feeling self conscious about my weight. 9. I have already bought 3 swimsuits -just in the last month.lol 10. I love the feeling of self worth I have, of finally getting the weight off, being a success and kicking the fat to the curb especially after a lifelong struggle of diets. 12. I was a Dr. Pepper addict, can't stand the stuff now. Love my Water tho. 13. 5 lbs to go but not worried about it. 14. love bbq pork rinds and almonds as Snacks, haven't had a hamburger in 10 months and don't want one!

Difficulty drinking, eating, etc. following surgery
1.I have never thrown up, have no issues keeping water down.2. I can drink 3 1/2 oz in one swig, swallowing several times3..I ate at Red Lobster today.4. I can eat 3 oz of lean meat and 2 /tablespoons of veggies @ 9 months out. 5.I know of several poster who drink wine occasionally, probly want to wait a few months at least and be careful not to drink your calories away. You will mourn the loss of big yummy dinners but you are getting healthy and it is sooo worth it.

5 days post op - AND HUNGRY!!!!!!!!
It sounds like head-hunger. Are you on a PPI? That will help with the hunger feeling. Try adding unflavored whey protein to broth or anything you can,and it'll help you recover quicker. It takes 2 weeks for the swelling to go away, or it did for me. Hang in there, don't jeopardize your staple line. You can do this!!

hot flushes
Yeah, i read that too...the hormones are crazy because you are in ketosis. My problem is just the opposite, i freeze.lol

future stomach problems
That was my only fear of vsg but as the Dr. said..how is that big old stomach helping you? I was going downhill and nothing else had worked, and at 53 I was tired of trying and failing. I think I read where they can make a stomach out of other tissue, don't know if this is true or not but I do know I have no regrets.

Day of surg and acouple days after
Well alot of what to expect depends on your surgeon and how he believes aftercare should be. You have to remember we all have different pain levels but in my opinion and based on my surgery, you will wake up after you get to your room. you'll have soreness like you did alot of exercises..like maybe a 500 situps. You will walk within 4 hrs and be given Clear Liquids.I did use the pain meds the first 12 hrs. I slept alot, walked alot and sipped alot, 24 hrs after surgery I was released to come home. I rode 2 hrs to get home and was tired but by the 2nd day home I showered dressed and went to Walmart with hubby. I tried to drink 2 oz eery 15 minutes usually room temp or lukewarm felt better than icy cold. Good Luck and what a nice Valentine! Let us know your doing ok.

Hairloss
I was told to take zinc with the biotin, but I did lose alot of hair starting @ 2 months out. I was told if you got your protein in it wouldn't come out but that was wrong. I lost 1/4 of the volume and it lasted 4 months. It didn't come out n clumps just thinned out. It was worth it! Good Luck~

Chicken, anyone?
I had a Adkins recipe I found and scaled it down. Take 4 boneless chicken tenders, sprinkle Hidden valley ranch dip mix on them and layer a slice of turkey bacon on top. cover with foil and bake maybe 15 minutes. Remove foil and top with grated cheddar (low fat). It helps the taste alot. This is modified so I didnt post stats. You can google Adkins recipes to get it. I can't eat it all in one day but it reheats good. There also was one using Taco seasoning. I can't handle the dry grilled chicken now either and my other tastes have changed too.lol. Hope it helps.

H. Pylori
I'm hoping some others will chime in on this, my cousin is doing her preop and tested positive, was put on antibiotics and we go back tomorrow to re-test. If she retest negative the Dr, then goes in with a scope. I' had zero issues with the H pylori but am worried about her, hoping I'm not encouraging her to proceed to surgery .

Serious doubts after visit with surgeon (long)
Find another surgeon! My daughter had RNY and has had problems, Fainting and is below her goal, she constntly eats and still loses, The $ they make onthe "Gold Standard" is alot more than the sleeve, just my opinion. I'm 53 , Idecided on surgery Feb 1st of last year and 2 months later I had it bcause I was like you, I had the 6 months done, I had to do a pys eval and heart check up but iy sounds like your Dr is trying to delay you. Hope that doesent offend you but there are ther Dr's out there with more sleeve expierence. Good Luck!

REGRET
I am 9 months out and havent lost any in 3 months but I am happy where I am, the Dr. would like me to lose 10 more so I figure I'll split the difference and lose 5 more. I don't regret it and never had buyers remorse. I know I need only ramp up the exercise and the 5lbs will come off. I have small grandkids and keep all the candy/chips and other things that are bad for sleevers, I don't want the bread or chips but a piece of chocolate is heavenly.lol I literally put the candy wayyy back in the cabinet so I'll leave it alone. I have rhuematoid and do believe this surgery has given me a happier, healthier me!!!

Monday, Jan 31- Sleeve Day
Good Luck on your surgery. The biotoin is to reduce the amount of hairloss, in my opinion it doesen't help but I did take it. Some suggest Zinc also.I started losing hair @ 2 months post op and lost it until 7th month. Today is my 9 month anniversary and my hair is starting to grow back. I'm 53 yrs old and this was the easiest surgery I have ever had. I have never thrown up with the sleeve. Yuo will be able to feel when you are full enough. I stayed 1 nite in the hospital . The pain wasn't bad. Try to drink 2 oz every 15 minutes that you are awake and it will help you stay hydrated, mix unflavored whey Protein in anything you can, broth,Soup. The protein speeds healing. It is an amazing tool.Let us know your ok.

pro's / con's to being honest about having surgery
My husband and Daughter knew before surgery, after I called my best friend and told her. I don't care who knows I got "sleeved" and as a rsult 3 people I am close to are in the pre-op stages of getting sleeved. Yes, it did bother me some for everyone to know, the discussions about you,the jealousy was the worse (I mean why should a skinny minny care if I lose weight) but it happened and I would do it again in a heartbeat. People are going to talk about it, let them and show them you can rock your sleeve!!!

Self Pay Near Killeen, TX
Iused Dr. Robert Marvin in Houston, my cousin is in the preop stage of self pay with a price of $11,000.00 for everything but insurance to cover the first yr and any complications. $1200.00 extra for that. That is hospital, overnight stay and anthesia. They have patient financing available with Chase also.

medications....
I don't take a ppi every day, now at 8+ months out I've learned what gives me heartburn. I took ppi before surgery at least a couple of days a week so I'm no different in that respect. I do take Celebrex for arthritis or Aleve if I am out of my precsription, the aleve is worse on the stomach (or so I heard) than Celebrex., hope this helps you.

One week Post op
Try some eg drog soup or onion soup from Japanese Steak House, I made my own. Add some protein powder in. Just a suggestion. Hope things get better for you!!

Eating Only 3 Times a Day and No Snacking...
Tiffy you are soo right! I didn't snack until 6 months out and close to goal but once you start grazing it's hard. I had to rethink my habits on the first of January and nip the snacking if I want to lose 10 more lbs, DH says no more weight loss but he's not the Doctor in chargelol.. I have seen where some people have 6 small meals a day instead of the three, it's whatever works for you but my surgeon said 3 meals too. Good Luck!!
