nobody wants to deny people health care.. it is the way this will be implemented that is wrong.. forcing people to purchase something is socialism... I don't care what anyone tells you this is not about anything but pure control and greed from insurance companies.. you will see when people are paying twice as much as they were (like me )and getting sub standard care... I have read most of the bill.. it's frightening.. my husband had cancer last year thank God he was able to get treatment.. but the new norm will be to deny him due to his age so that is a fact.. if it is run by the govt as well as the post office or theVA we are all screwed...

Sooooo...I almost hugged my scales this a.m.!!! For the past 15+ years, I've been over 200 lbs...way over. I had a follow up appointment scheduled with my surgeon today and decided to weigh before I went. I didn't want to be surprised, shocked or disappointed. Well..I thought my eyes were deceiving me, so I tried not to get excited. The dr's office scales are always different anyway. I got there and weighed in today at 197.8!!! I almost cried. Although I know I still have long way to go, but I am so excited and happy!!!

i don't even get on the scale. i only care about the scale when i see my doctor once a month. that's the weight that is important. my scale at home and the doctor's scale don't even match up. if i go by my scale it just starts all the mind games for the day. i figure if i am following my band rules than the weight will come off. my doctor is happy with 5 lbs a month.

I think the scale can be your best friend or your worst enemy. For me, in my dieting days before the band, I would allow the scale to dictate my day and my life. If the scale was down from the previous day, I'd be happy as a clam, eat well, do all the right things. If the scale was up, I was done. I'd eat like crap since the scale was up anyway, I'd be done with that weeks diet, and not step on the scale again for days, weeks, and sometimes months until I began the next one. I did this for years and years.
I told myself before I got my band that I was NOT going to do this to myself anymore. While my goal was/is to obviously lose weight, the biggest thing is to be healthy. As long as I eat right, and follow the rules, I'm doing good regardless of what the scale says. I DO weigh myself every morning, but I do it to keep myself accountable, and remind myself what I'm working towards. I no longer get angry when the scale moves the wrong way, I only record when I have a loss...sometimes I have one 3 days in a row, sometimes it's 2 weeks in between losses. I'm ok with that! No need to live and die by what the scale says! There's so much greatness that comes with this journey...I've said this many times, but it's the way that I feel, and the NSV's that I truly love most!!

i agree with shazam but i know if i eat more than what my lap band is telling me i might as well go to the bathroom and wait for the spit up as i call it. i take what i didnt eat and just throw it in the trash. i know in about 10 min's my brain will be satisfied and happy. it takes just a min. to throw it away and if you have to, put it in the garbage disp. don't save it . it will only make your brain go to it in the refrig. Protein Drinks are a great way to fill satisfied in between meals if you have to.

My port is perfect but I have had irritations around if from time to time. Or should I say it can become sensitive from time to time. I think a lil soreness sometimes is consider normal but that's what you pay your doctor for so I would still put in a call to his office.

I don't have issues with anything passing through the band, or being uncomfortable going down. However, what I do notice is that there are certain fruits that give me a stomach ache; honeydew melon and pineapple....to name a couple. I haven't eaten all the fruits I used to eat, but I'm guessing I'll find more that no longer agree.
Weird on the alcohol, huh?? I heard people say that you get buzzed a lot quicker, and they were SO right! I can feel the first sip of wine. That's not to say that I don't drink the whole glass, but I've certainly become a cheap date - LOL (if I were dating)

I also had low blood sugar that I didn't know was happening , then I got banded and it does happen once in a while so I get a kind bar and eat that cause it also has Protein but not a lot of sugar or I eat a piece of fruit for the natural sugar it has , as Miss73 said tho ask the doc. but try eating a piece of melon or fruit and see if it help I didn't have to do insulin or pills tho so that's good.

It's imperative you speak to your doctor about this ASAP. Only he can advise you based on your specific medical history and needs.

keeping a food diary is a excellent tool. keep track of the 3 meals you should be eating a day. keep meals to 300-400 cal. each. also keep track of your Protein and cal. protein needs to be the major concern. remember Protein Drinks are 100-130 cal and the calories you are adding to it to mix. all foods should be low fat low caloric foods. even if you don't feel full you know to quit eating when you have eaten about a cup full of food. eat slowly but not to slow. if you are still hungry perhaps a fill is indicated. my doctor judges by wt loss in a month. 5 lbs is a amt he is satisfied. if its less than 5 than a fill was done.

i get the most pain when i have liquid in my pouch and than try to eat. the liquid makes me spit up the food and it. the pain is awful when it first occurs. no liquid before a meal, small bites and chew. eat slowly. if you are going to have a problem you will know it before the big pain happeneds. good luck.

my doctor recommended eating a 1/2 sandwich for lunch . the purpose of a lap band is to eat solid food so you fill full and satisfied.
