I just swallowed my gum...
Someone had posted about chewing gum. That they were told by their bariactric nurse not to chew gum because if you swallow it, it could get stuck in the stoma and you would have to have it scraped off. I don't know if that is true about scraping it or if it was just a scare tactic, but I'm going to ask my Dr. because I was told no gum. ~~~Stephanie

Hidradenitis Suppurativa
I have Psoriasis it is also a skin disorder and is genetic. Also it is an autoimmune disorder. I don't take a pill I take a shot and thankfully was able to keep it up during this process. The only way that weight contributes to the disorder is in the fat folds of the skin, it gets worse so I am looking forward to that being eliminated some or all for that matter. It is also effected by food and stress so if the new way I eat and if I'm not as stressed that would help too. Good luck with yours. ~~~Stephanie

Fyi.. Unjury protein
Have you tried Syntrax Nectar fuzzy navel flavor it taste like an orange drink it is not milky or have an after taste they have different flavors. I've had fuzzy navel and Caribbean cooler I liked the fuzzy navel the Caribbean cooler is to coconutty and has an after taste. But you can order samples I believe. I get it at BariacticAdvantage.com. There is a similar website that comes up when you type it in google it is bariactric choice.com. They don't have it so make sure it is BariactricAdvantage.com. I think you can even find it on amazon too ~~~Stephanie.

how soon after surgery can you start doing normal things?
Everything was pretty much based on how I felt except for lifting anything over 10 pounds and bending and stooping (what is stooping anyway ). I could not do those things for 4 to 6 weeks. ~~~Stephanie

It's a band new me!
My surgery went very well I did not have any problems. The surgery itself only took 1 hour. I just did everything the doc said and all was well. The only problem I had was after my first fill I got stuck real bad and was slimming and vomiting but it was my fault. I had microwaved chicken and that is a no no, and for some reason it slipped my mind. Other than that everything is good. The waiting was the hardest part for me . It'll be here before you know it. ~~~Stephanie

Feeling hungry
I don't know about most people ,but I was hungry out of the gate. Only thing was I could barley get anything down. When I started having mushies it was all she wrote I had to get things back under control again which took awhile for me. But I'm back on track now. Never had a problem with my pills though even the pain meds which are long I cut them in half just in case. Good luck ~~~Stephanie

Day 6 liquid diet
I did not lose much of anything on my pre or post-op. It was most defeating but that is the way it happened. I got my first fill 2 weeks ago and the scale is finally moving, so I guess it takes sometime for some of us. Everyone is going to lose differently, so just because it not not moving now does not mean it won't move later just keep doing what your suppose to be doing. Good luck ~~~Stephanie

Youngie
If I had one regret it would be that I did not get this done sooner. I'm 47 and have been over weight since I was 25, I went through a major depression. All I can tell you is that I had all kinds of second thoughts and fears before having the surgery. I was scared it would not work for me or I would fail at it. But I was so ready I had to go through with it. I was banded the 28th of May and have lost 17 pounds since and I can say I'm glad I got it done. Even if something happens and it does not work I at least tried. But I do believe you need to want it like Carolina girl would say. It's all in the "want power". Good luck ~~~Stephanie

Tanning bed
I can't see why there would be a problem laying in the tanning bed. There could be something to do with the healing of the incisions, but other than that I wouldn't think there would be a problem. The best thing though would be to ask your Dr. to be sure. Maybe the people at the tanning bed would know too. ~~~Stephanie

Question....
I had a question. I have had one fill, I have been able to eat anything. But I have noticed that my first bite of dense food for the day I'm always getting stuck on. After I get stuck once then everything else goes down fine. It took me awhile to figure this out, because I kept switching to just liquids after. Is it possible to get stuck on green Beans one day but not the next. Does anybody know why I would be getting stuck on my first bite of a meal? It has to be dense food though mushies go down fine. And this is just not in the morning. Would I not need another fill with this going on. I don't stay full for 4 hours on a cup of food. Thanks for your help ~~~Stephanie

Obesity as a disease
Ok I'm going to show my ignorance here, but I'm dying to know. Now that they are classifying obesity as a disease what things will that help to change? And when does it all start, now? Thanks for you input. ~~~Stephanie

What is wrong with this picture?
That's crazy, I can't believe they are offering such awful choices. I hope stuff like this starts to change now that obesity is being classified as a disease. ~~~Stephanie

Can't believe it...I'm a MEDIUM!!!
I'm so happy for you. Congratulations ~~~Stephanie

I did it!
Same as cassandramontes. I was able to have any clear liquids right out of the hospital. Did your Dr. give you a diet guideline? Usually they do. Maybe you could call your doc to make sure so many doc's are different. ~~~Stephanie

Recovery Time???
It took me about a week before I felt somewhat normal, I was never in excruciating pain, I only used the pain meds for the first few days, after that I was just uncomfortable, but the port pain did act up from time to time and it did hurt bad sometimes the port pain lasted about 3 weeks. I could have probably done a job like yours by day 5 or 6. I would suggest taking it easy what ever you do. ~~~Stephanie

Diarrhea on day 4 of liquid diet
Diarrhea hit me on day 3, but it stopped after that and then I got constipated I guess form the pain meds. I'm 4 weeks out and doing great and you will too just give it some time. ~~~Stephanie

How do you take you medications
You can sometimes use milk instead of food with your meds, but I'd check with the dr. or pharmacist. ~~~Stephanie

How do you take you medications
I made sure I could cut up all my pills before surgery then I also bought liquid and chewable Vitamins. I can take all my pills whole since my surgery. I still use the liquid and chewable vitamins because they usually come big, but also because I already bought them. ~~~Stephanie
