  7. As part of my Insurance Requirements I must complete 3 months of medically monitored weight loss. I went for my 1 month follow up appointment today and I am down 11 pounds! I am so excited!! I have a wonderful surgical team. The programs they have in place are teaching me the tools I need to be successful now and after I have the band. I cannot wipe the cheesy smile off my face today!!
  8. Thank you both for your replies! Terry, my husband told me pretty much the same thing LOL!
  9. In 2010 I wanted to have Lasik eye surgery before my wedding. I went for the consult and it was detected that I may have had swollen optic nerves. After a scary few months it was found that I have a rare condition where deposits develop on my optic disc. By finding this out early I was able to seek treatment before anything happened to my vision. Now in 2013 as I am pursuing Lapband surgery it was found that I have sleep apnea. I go tonight for a CPAP test. Though this was a major blow to my self-esteem with thoughts such as "How will I ever feel sexy for my husband" crossed my mind I also had to think about how low my oxygen levels drop and how many times an hour I stopped breathing. I can also take comfort in knowing the sleep apnea can go away after I have this surgery and I am successful in my weight loss journey. I am concluding month 1 of my 3 month supervised weight loss insurance requirement next week. I also have my psych eval Friday. Time is flying and I'm learning so much thanks to my amazing surgical team/program and this forum. Thanks everyone for your inspiration! Wendy
  10. So exciting! Great job!!
  11. I don't think I slept long! I kept waking up and I'm typically a sound sleeper. It wasn't because I was being watched it was because of all the wires attached to me. I was afraid to move in case I disconnected something. I am still waiting for the final results.
  12. Great Job! How exciting!! Good luck with your surgery!
  13. Congratulations! I am already married but on our 5 year anniversary I want to buy that smaller dress I have always dreamed of and renew our vows! You will absolutely feel like a princess on your big day!
  14. I live in the Chicago Suburbs too and have been freezing. I wish the old saying "Freezing my butt off" were true cause I could use to loose some cushioning there lol!
  15. Every insurance policy is written differently. You will need to contact them to see if you have coverage and what their requirements are to be approved. I'm in the process right now and they require a 3 month medically monitored weight loss, a psych eval, 2 years of medically noted weight and an appointment with a nutritionist. My surgeons office takes it a step further and requires a 10% of access weight loss (for me this is 19lbs), a sleep study, a letter of support from PCP and to attend a support group meeting. All in all I'm looking at a total of 4 to 5 months before I am cleared for sugery.
  16. You look great! Fantastic job!!
  17. Congratulations!! You look fantastic!!
  18. Great job! You look amazing!!
  19. Hello and welcome to this amazing journey. I was very much like you thinking I could do it myself and always failing. I finally broke down to my husband in November and it was the best melt down I have ever had lol! You will learn that everyone's journey is different but here is how mine is going so far. I am 5'7 with a starting weight of 354 which makes my BMI 55. I also have high blood pressure and I'm only 32 years old!! I attended a surgical seminar in November and determined lapband was the route I am comfortable with for my body. My insurance company will cover surgery with the following requirements: 3 month medically monitored diet, 2 years of documented weight, psych evaluation and I must have the surgery with a center of excellence. They will not wave the medically monitored weight loss because of my weight or health conditions. Now that I'm in the process I understand why it's set this way. I am learning the tools I need to be successful and getting my body as healthy as possible for surgery. I located the Center of Excellence closest to my home and had my first appointment with a surgeon at the beginning of December. My surgeon also requires a letter of support from my PCP which my doctor was very supportive and sent immediately. They require that I loose 10% of my access body weight which for me is 19 pounds (I am 5'7 and starting weight was 354). I meet with their nurse practitioner monthly for the medically monitored weight loss and she set goals with me which were super easy to meet so far. 2 weeks in and I'm down 5 pounds!! I also had to have a sleep study completed which I actually just completed last night. My psych eval is Feb 1st. The 3 months are already flying by! Good luck on your journey! I'm so thankful for this site. Read as much as you can everyone is so helpful here!
  20. I am on my preop diet currently. My insurance requires a 3 month medically monitored diet and my surgeon requires me to loose 10% of my access weight which for me is 19 pounds. Good luck on your journey!
  21. Congratulations!!
  22. Congratulations Missy! Your posts are truly inspirational to me. I just started my 3 month insurance medically monitored diet. Each appointment they discuss bypass and sleeve surgeries. I tell them the same thing each time, I understand that the lapband is a tool. I am not looking for the fastest way to loose weight. I am most comfortable with lapband. I have 200 pounds to loose and to see stories like yours I know it can be done with the band.
