Had My 1st Appointment
I have been going through the same thing since my appointment. I had my surgical appointment on December 14th. I attended a seminar the prior month so I felt I went into that meeting with my mind made up that I was going to have lap band surgery. Then my surgeon starting talking about how much weight I have to loose and bypass and sleeve will offer greater results. He will absolutely move forward with lap band if that is what I decide. I have to complete a 3 month supervised weight loss so I have time to decide as well. I sway a little each day but I'm 95% sure I will have lap band. Good luck on your journey!

Did anyone start with a BMI in the 50's? What were your results?
Thank you everyone for responding! This helped me so much!! I can by nature second guess my decisions on anything. Even though I went in yesterday knowing Lap Band was right for me I of course second guessed my decision. I also am not comfortable with the thought of cutting into my stomach or rerouting my intestine. Congratulations to all of you and good luck on your continued journey!

2 Years Banded....145 Lbs Weight Loss
This is exactly what I needed to read today. I am starting over 300lbs and was concerned lap band might not give me the results I need. You are such and inspiration! Thank you!!

Did anyone start with a BMI in the 50's? What were your results?
I had my surgical consult today and it has set my mind spinning! I have a high BMI of 55. My surgeon, though absolutely willing to move forward with lap band for me, strongly suggests I consider Sleeve or Bypass. He feels I may be disappointed with my weight loss results with the band. I have been reading posts on these boards for a few months now and I have seen very few people with a starting BMI/weight as high as mine (weight is 354). My surgeons office recommends an ideal weight of 155 for me (I'm 5'7) where as I would be happy with 175. The largest results in my research I have seen with the band were in the 100lbs range. Though this is amazing that would put me at 250. I guess what is really discouraging me is all the posts on here within the last few weeks regarding failing bands and low weight loss. If I am going to have surgery I want it to give me the tool that I need to assist me. I need some inspiration from those who started with high BMI's please. The great thing is I can start the process of the supervised diet and psych eval without making my final decision so I have some more time for research on both. I will be attending support groups for those who have gone through Band and Bipass surgery to hear their stories as well. Thanks! W

Surgical Consult Today!
Hello Everyone! Today is my surgical consult! I attended a seminar with my wonderful husband on November 24th. We both realized that day that surgery was the best choice for me. My insurance requires a 3 month post op diet and if I am approved will cover 80%. I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I am 5'8 and at one point 10 years ago I was able to make it to 175 on my own. It has slowly edged up to over 300 in spite of all of the diet plans I have tried. I have done Jenny Craig, Atkins, Low Calorie, South Beach, appetite suppressants and weight watchers too many times to count!! Each one would give me success only for me to gain in back and then some! My breaking point was being diagnosed with high blood pressure and for over a year not being able to conceive. My doctor attributes my infertility issues with my weight. This is why I have chosen lap band. I need to be healthy so that I am here to push my husbands wheel chair in our old age. My greatest wish is to be a mother one day and I need to be healthy in order to achieve this dream. I found this site during my lap band research and it has been a fantastic source of inspiration and questions which I will need to discuss with my surgeon. I cannot wait to start this journey! Happy Friday W
