  1. Congrats on your new journey! I was banded 10/5/12 I've lost 45 lbs since sept 28. I'm 5'7 and started out at 275.6.. Worse part by far is the gas they pump in you abdomin during surgery. Is a very uncomfortable feeling during recovery and lasts a few days. Heating pads and walking help so be prepared! GasX helps for the intestinal gases. Keep us posted!
  2. Fact is, the ones who have success do know how it is at the beginning. They have been where we are now. So why would we not take their advise? If they see what is working for them is very different that what is NOT working for us then why cant they say so? I feel like we should be following in the footsteps of the trailblazers and we should not be criticizing them because we are not being told what we want to hear. They spend their time on here typing away, pleading, begging, even kicking butt, of those of us who do not want to listen or follow doctors orders. It is our choice to listen or not. However, if we do happen to put away our pride, then maybe, just maybe, we will be successful too. Just a thought!! Bee Merry!
  3. Awe, I'm sorry! I know first hand it is hard. Everyone here means well, just glean what you can from what is being said. I am a newbie too, I also ran the NWM 2011 then hurt my back. SOB when you're body is used to burning a lot of calories with running as soon as you stop it is like peddling backwards downhill! Self-control would only be called out by the "old timers" if you are sabotaging your efforts by eating junk foods. What you are doing will pay off, for sure. Believe me you see it all on this forum! Banded life is not as hard as not being able to tie your shoes, fit in an airplane seat, being looked at funny because of your weight, or dying from obesity. (that was meant as a pep talk) Hang in there. We are all here for you! Bee Well!
  4. Don't be discouraged. Doctors are not there to be mad they are there to help you make it work. Your success is a walking business card for them you know!! I am fairly new and I have lost very well over the past 2 months. BUT I haven't lost any this week so far and I could care less. Even if its a month or two or three I could care less. I am doing what I can do to make a healthy me. Im not eating ice cream and chips late at night. I don't have the 2 for $3 deal at McDonalds for bfast anymore. Took me years to put on all this fat and I dont care how long it takes to lose it. Oh and btw Im freaking hungry!! don't care. I am encouraging you to not beat yourself up so much and relax, you're in it for the long haul!
  5. I feel for you. really I do!! I just would like to tell you what I tell myself when I have "that feeling" that your post seems to have. What else do you have to lose? You are eating healthier, less, exercising more, lost 27lbs. Quiet your inner voice and relax. The band is a proven successful tool to a lifestyle change. You have done great in changing the lifestyle. Now get out of your own way and let the band do it's job, in due time of course. What you are risking with your expectations and your current mindset? You already know the answer. Past behavior is the best way to predict future behavior. So, like me, you have probably gone on countless diets before and felt the same way as you do now and you GAVE UP! The mindset has to change or the pattern will repeat itself. You are a success story in progress! Just know that I am talking to you as if i were talking to myself because I have been there, done that, worn every t-shirt (men's sizes only) Head up, shoulders back, and for goodness sake, quiet that voice inside! Bee well!
  6. I LOVE Jeff Galloway. He has great apps and teaches you how to run injury free. His app also comes with his voice piping in and giving you good tips and advise. I love it!
  7. My friend lost all her weight TWO YEARS after her band date. She lost it retry uickly too once she started dropping. She kept with it, visited her dr every month, got w a NUT. Don't get discouraged. Just keep trying! The only thing you have to lose is weight!
  8. That was my fear too. I told the PA that my wl is strictly diet and exercise and that I would appreciate getting to the green zone.
  9. When I went running out of the bathroom screaming " I'm obese! I'm obese! I'm obese!" My family thought I had lost it! Ok mom! We know you are fat but come on, obese? Really? Ha!
  10. Omg! You're doing amazing! Had my second fill dec 3. Not hungry as much. Down 42 since preop. Banded 10/5! Third fill is dec 26! I made them move it up because of my annual deductible resetting jan 1st. Thanks for the update!
  11. I watched a YouTube video from a successful banded and I cannot remember who it was but she said the took this journey on like the 12 step program and did not date for a whole year. That way she could focus on the most important person, herself. It made a big impact on me and I think if you are in the position t o not divide your time it is a big gift! (3 kids, hubby, and father-in-law at home waiting for me every night!) Heartbreak is a pain but don't let it derail you when you are so close!
  12. DA you are always so diplomatic. That's why I luv you!
  13. We all need counseling, lets face it! I was also told that I needed to work out some lifelong issues so that I can avoid back sliding. I've been happily banded since 10/5/12 ( down 42 lbs)
  14. Hello there MD! I've had two fills since being banded on 10/5. I'm down 42 lbs After the fills I didn't notice anything different about what I can or cannot eat. I eat the same. I just stay full a little longer. I still eat way too fast and don't chew like I should ( for sure). I am sure that my band will teach me a thing or two about that at my next fill or so. I have the realize band 14cc and I'm at 4.5 fill so far. GL to you!
  15. Did you think you were too tight? What was going on medically to make your new dr think that? If I'm doing fine, able to keep food and liquids down, I'm not lying down and letting anyone poke be and take liquids out of my band! You do have the right to refuse you know. Sounds like something else was going on though. If everything is good now ask for another fill. If refused find another doctor.
  16. I received a call the day before my surgery that my m-I-L had slipped into a coma. My husband was on an airplane within 6 hours. ( the only person who knew I was having surgery) My husband was gone 5 weeks. I had someone drop me off at the hospital and someone else pick me up. I literally didn't have any support and my m-I-L was dying. Not the same as having a broken heart from a cheating SOB but you can go it alone! I spent almost every waking hour on this forum. It really helped me!
  17. Best shot is all its about!
