Both of you have great nails. Mine are short because I am done with tips. Tips ruined my real nails and gel polish peels off.

One day she will see you are on her side. I have a 34 year old son who is very obese. I have tried everything with him. He knows better because he has been thinner. He now has a wife and 2 sons who all eat crap! They lived with me for 10 months so I know how they eat. Awful. At least you are making great meals.
Good luck with her seeing you are not the wicked witch.

Don't give up on Lobster!!! It might have been the way it was cooked, the loberst itself, or just your band for the day. I can eat anything most days but occationaly I will have something not work well with my band at that moment. The next time, no problem. The band likes to keep us guessing!

Not sure how long you have been banded but what I could eat two years ago and what I can eat today are totally different. I can eat lobster if it is cooked really well, now if it is over cooked and a little over cooked I can not eat but I can't eat shrimp that is over cooked either. Maybe it was the way the lobster was cooked. But they do say shrimp and lobster are two foods that may be more difficult. If I lived in NE, I thin I would be in heaven for a while, I love seafood and yes we get fresh sea fo od in SC but no where near as fresh as NE. Oh and I do occassionaly allow myself fried clams or calamari but it is usually only 3-4 pieces, the breading fills me up and the fried foods make my stomach cramp.

Thank you for sharing a wonderful success story! I was banded 6 weeks ago and it's the best thing I ever did for myself. Since my highest in March I am down 50lbs!! I don't really see it but my clothes do. Reading about a person like yourself, helps me a lot. Thank you very much.

What a wonderful story! Great mother. I have 2 sons. Both are 6'2" and there is about 150-200 pounds between them. The youngest is the heavy one. I have tried everything with him. He is now 34 married with children. He and his wife eat awful foods and their 2 sons do too. When they lived me they knew I didn't approve of their choices. It is so hard. Doing the Band was the best thing I did. I hope one day my son wakes up and watches his in take.
Good luck with yourself and your sons.

Before my band I had all those problems. Took 6 pills a day to eat. My doctor repaired my hernia and my stomach was in the wrong place, which he fixed too. I feel great without all those problems. Have you been checked for those? I have liquid Zantac from my surgery.
    Good luck.

You are very very lucky! Be proud. I wish I could see that number. Since I had a fill 3 weeks ago I have been stuck at the same number but clothes fit better. I don't get it.

For many if you are not properly hydrated prior to eating, it won't matter how much you chew you might get stuck on meat and protien.
meat that is dry won't do well so make sure to cook in a method that won't dry the meat out. use a crock pot if you can. Or if you bake or roast let the meat stand for fifteen min or so before you carve it so all the jucies don't run out of it when you cut into it.
take small bites and chew it till it's mush.

It is unrealistic to think we can give up our favorite foods forever, but when we do have them we MUST do it in moderation. I love pizza to, my hubs and I use to order a large and eat the entire thing. Now we still eat pizza sometimes, but we order a small and I eat A piece and we have lunch left overs for the next day. When I want to go back for more I remind myself of how far I've come and I can't and won't ruin it.
Enjoy your food in moderation and add your exercise in and you are much more likely to rock that band!!!
Oh, and I can still eat salad - I just play the little engine that could - CHEW CHEW CHEW (lame I know, by my mom calls me that now

    Hello,
i think you're doing great. I have gas really bad after I eat. My husband thinks it has to do with the new stomach being smaller and how the food passes through. I never asked anyone about this but at least there is no smell.

OMG! that stinks. I had my first fill on Friday. I was on liquids for 3 days and then soft foods for 3 and tomorrow I start stage 5 for life.
Maybe you were suppose to have just liquids not any foods at the beginning. Feel better.

I think why bariactric surgery is still underutalized, is due to the insurance companies, not wanting to shell out for the surgeries, and making it very difficult for some patients who desperately need the surgery to obtain.
I hope that more insurance companies ease up on their restrictions to help more of the obesse out there. I think the majority of those who look into Lapband have tried everything else and realize that lifestyle changes have to be made permenately for continued sucess.

I'm watching it right now, honestly it's awesome. Lisa is saying how it's a tool, and how if she doesn't deal with her emotional stuff she'll gain it back. Dr. Oz even said he thought bariatric surgeries were the most under-used out there. They're both actually very informative. I'm rather impressed!

I'm not a fan of Dr. Oz I know a lot of people value his opinion, but I'm not one. It will be interesting to see how Lisa does though. I read a comment that she had towards Dr. Oz that he was one of those "skinny people we hate". She's very outspoken...should be an interesting show!

yes a food scale is a good idea. you use it to put the cooked food on your plate to make sure it all totals 8oz. or a cup

Kime-lou, I can relate to what you are feeling. However, as much as we want that reassurance, I think there are a couple things that may hinder it. First, sometimes whilst we are in transition we are wearing the same clothes (that are just baggier). Until I bought a few new more fitted items, no one said much. Another thing is that some people are afraid of drawing attention to it as they may feel it is very personal and trying to respect your privacy.
The people I work with everyday have said a few things and said it is very noticeable (I have lost 44lbs); however, my former day-to-day coworkers didn't say anything when I saw them recently. I was a little bummed but also know in my own mind and heart that I am doing well and only I can make myself feel good about it.
Keep up the good work and reward yourself from time to time with a new top or outfit to embrace your new size as able. The confidence you exude will draw attention as well.

My surgeon says he is happy with a 1 lb loss every 7-10 days. At first, I was doing much better than that, losing between 2-3 lbs a week. Now that I've been banded a while, the weight loss has slowed down (even stopped the past 6 weeks) so losing and keeping off that 1 lb a week is taking work.
There are only a few things I really miss living my new lifestyle. Sour Patch Kids are probably the biggest thing. Sugar coated in sour sugar? Yes please!! But I haven't had them in months. Every know and then I will crave a drink of Pepsi. The way the carbonation burns...mmm! But I know it's potentially hazardous so I don't give in.

Time for a new doctor? My lung doctor set me up for the surgery, not my PCP. My PCP is behind me with the banding, though. My surgeon likes by pass better but I don't. I know about 6 people who had by pass and they are all big again. It is a band aid not a cure. We have to want to change our nasty eating habits. I have and I am proud of myself. I hope one day to wear a size 12 or 14. I don't need to be skinny, I am 62 next week.
Do it for you and no one else.

I think you're great to go back to work so soon. As for the shakes, I use a lot of ice cubes in mine and make into a very thick shake. The shake fills me more and it makes like you're having something naughty. I only drink chocolate and add decaf instant coffee and/or peppermint extract for an added change. Think of it as a McDonald's thick shake.
    Keep up the good work.
