  1. Ok, it happens to most of us at one point or another. You've eaten the wrong thing too early, sudden aversion to certain foods, drinking to soon after meal, eaten 1 bite past full, etc. etc. Now you're uncomfortable, even miserable, producing slime like a Hag Fish. What have you found that helps you through this? Any remedies? Reliefs? Anything you found that helps? Please don't mention keeping a cup handy because the mere thought of that sends me gagging loosing everything else.
  2. I did not drink any juices pre-op. Just not my thing. However, post-op the best thing I had was apple juice mixed with cranberry. My Dr. never said I couldn't have it. especially since that was the only thing I was keeping down. To him, and me, the most important thing was being hydrated. Sugar counting could wait. I hope you have a smooth recovery.
  3. Personally, for me, I am eating a lot less than 1200 calories most days and when I do I don't see movement on the scale (just because having a hard time getting in the food, not trying to eat that little). However, on good days when I can get in my protein and calories that's when I see movement. My understanding is when under 1200 calories my body thinks its starving and tries to hold onto everything it can. Not to mention - absolutely no energy when not feeding it fuel.
  4. I get crazy dreams when not taking Ambien. My husband came in one night and I woke up. Did not recognize him (married 10 years at that time). Knew i was in my room, those were my kids in the other rooms, my house but couldn't grasp him. He didn't know what was wrong. Took my blanket wrapped it around me to hide from the stranger in my room and went into my kids room and locked the door. I knew I had to be sleeping but couldn't get myself out of it. This was well before I started taking any sleep aid. Nuts.
  5. I've been under alot of stress over the last few years and go thru phases of being unable to sleep for days at a time. I now have a long commute and cannot afford to be be groggy (I use to work at home 60 lbs ago). I use to take Lunesta and I had a side effect of telling a little girl to go home at 2am because they were making too much noise....and she did!! Walked all the way home. When I found out the next day I apologized to everyone and threw it away. Ambien has never given me the side effect. I do take it while in bed. Sometimes it doesn't work because my mind wont shut down but overall its good. I was worried if it would change post-sleeve like everything else but so far no problems. However, my family is still careful about waking me when I take it -- i think they're terrified I'll kick them out too.
  6. I couldn't believe how puffy i was after surgery. I didn't realize how bad it was until i went to put on eye makeup. lol It does pass. Definately dont get frustrated yet. These fluids shall pass.
  7. I know its hard doing it without extened support. Only my husband and kids knew for that very reason. I didn't want the negativity. If you feel confident in your decision so not let them persuade you differently. You've got someone in your corner and that makes all the difference. You are also doing this for a good healthy reason. Nobody knows your body like you do. Good luck.
  8. Hi Rachel! Frederick, MD here! I was sleeved on August 3, 2012.
  9. Ok, I don't eat spicy food compared to others. Chipotle chicken, mild wings etc. is about all I can handle. However, I can't eat these foods without drinking the burn away. How do you handle it? Usually I stare at the clock for 1/2 hour before drinking but with spicy food what do you do?

    Hang in there! {{hugs}}
  11. That's just sad. Especially in the one place where we should all feel safe and not judged, just supported.
  12. I made a point not to watch it before surgery. Now I'm queasy and know I don't want to watch it. I forgot to bring a tumb drive for the doctor to give me a copy of the surgery. Just as well.
  13. Thank you everyone. I have to say i don't get stressed about eating because I'm not hungry. I just know this isn't healthy. Called my PCP and he prescribed something. I took it and made some cream of broccolli. So far so good. I managed to get all my Water and 15 g of Protein today. I also ordered a couple of unjury packets. Hopefully this combo will start working for me. BTW - caught my teenager. he had been drinking and I could smell it this morning. My husband thought it was nuts but he just admitted it to me. Maybe I have a future at the airport doing security? Put them search dogs out of busines. lol
  14. I went to Mexico for surgery. Dr. Kelly said take Zolfran but here it's by prescription only. I'm waiting for a reply as to whether he can write scripts for the states. I really dont' want to take time to see my PCP as I'm not even sure he would write a script for this so close to surgery and he doesn't know I had surgery. Is there any equivalent OTC meds?
  15. Good for you! Hoping to start working out soon -- 14 days post-op and not getting enough down for energy yet. Also, good luck on interview.
  16. Long explanation. I am 11 days post op. I have lost approx. 21 lbs. because I can't stand smells and tastes of almost everything. (215 down to 194) Broths, Soups - have me leaving room gagging Protein shakes - takes me all day to gag down one bottle of ATKINS with 15 g Protein. I've tried 7 different kinds suggested by other viewers. Protein powder - again, cant stand. tried 3 kinds. thought about trying Isopure but i don't think i can return that if i can't stomach it. Water - couldn't stand plain water before. Always used flavorings. Now they are impossible to drink. I'm drinking plain water but it takes me all day for one 16 oz bottle, especially if i'm trying to drink a Protein Drink too. I think alot of this is due to hormones because this is the same problem I had when pregnant with both children. sick for 6 months due to smells and taste. lost alot of weight until something clicked at 6 months (literally a size 3 at 6 months with first child and hospitalized with 2nd) I am surviving on apple juice (ironically didn't like before), very little gatorade/vitamin water (same effect as flavored waters) and very little Jello. Tried a little scrambled egg and pureed chicken. Ok at first then, hours later, revolt. I am very tired. I do not want to loose weight this fast and this way. I know I'm loosing muscle instead of just fat. I have no energy for anything, including starting walking. I can't take chewable Vitamins anymore either. I am looking for suggestions. The only plus to this is I am not hungry at all.

YOu are certainly not alone! Good luck with your surgery. I am 12 days post-op and I'm already returning a dress I bought and never had a chance to wear. It's too big. Next summer will be much better.
  18. Yeah, I feel the same way about diet coke. Miss my routine of a DC every morning. Then it just occurred to me that I can no longer have beer. I don't drink often but I don't drink liquor at all. Don't ever think about it until someone says No, No, no. then you want it.

Congrats! I'm worried about the hair loss too. I'm 12 days post-op and can't seem to eat anythng with nutritional value except one shake a day (and not the best one out there). I even had to stop taking chewables. I'm going to give my stomach a rest for a day or two (liquids only) and try again. Keep up the good work.
  20. I know i'm real early but when is the stomach truly healed and you don't have to worry about a leak anymore?
  21. I feel your pain. I"m 8 days post-op and I haven't been able to enjoy anything I use to. Smells make me ill like im pregnant (maybe hormones?). Can't drink broth. Haven't tried tomatoe soup. Gatorade sucks. Sweet Tea sucks. Craving salt terrible (sucked the salt off a Cheetos lol). I saw my favorite chicken salad in the store the other day and wanted it (i don't know how to make it well). I had 2 Tbl spoons of pureed new england clam chowder and that all today. Mostly drinking diet Ocean Spray laced with white grape juice. We will get there!!!
  22. Does anybody know when this swelling in the tummy goes down?
  23. Also on another (hilarious) thread they were talking about guys being "larger" after weight loss I think its a visual effect thing. lol
  24. Childbirth was worse. You don't get to "sleep" through the birth and wake up on the good pain meds! lol I didn't have that much pain (or i had very good meds). You will be fine!
