  1. Every surgeon seems to have their own pre op prep. Mine was just five days pre on clear liquid diet. Was not a too bad. What ever your surgeon requires, you will get thru it too. Good luck!
  2. I am sorry that you are having difficulties. It does get better but will never get back to guzzling a bottle of Water right down. I am one year out and still sip. I take a large mouthful sometimes but then swallow it in several small swallows. It is not difficult nor does it hurt but it is not good for my stomach and I still get a lot of noises when I eat or drink too fast.

    Fear & Addiction

Oh ya....I can totally relate with you about the whole food addiction. As my surgeons office told me from the very beginning, this is a tool that they are giving us. We still have to make the changes and make them for life. I know this first handed that this is a struggle. I still struggle with my "head hunger". I am not physically hungry but my head tells me that I wans "something" to eat. As I said, this is a daily struggle for me. I have twenty pound to go till goal but have been at my current weight for about four months. It is up to be to kick it in high gear again to start loosing. I have read on this sight that some people will do the five day clear liquids (like we did to get ready for the surgery) to kind of kick start it again. I have been considering doing this. Also, up until this point I have not been doing a regular exercise program just kind of sporadic when I could find the time. I owe it to myself to make the time. I agree with you about being comfortable in my fat. I don't like to be in the spotlight and get embarrassed if too much is said about my looks and progress.. This is something that will lessen though as people get used to our smaller size. Good luck friend. We both can do this. Anything that is worth doing is not easy and quick.
  5. This is an awesome post. Thank you. I was sleeved in January of this year and am about 20# from goal. I have increased my calories lately so.....this was a good check and kick in the bottom for me. Thank you so much for sharing.

    Need some answers

Hi..good luck with you decision. I am seven months post op and feel great. I can eat1/4 to 1/2 c food, salads a little bit more. I really have not found a food that I can not eat.
  7. I guess you can rationalize your decision to be noncompliant anyway you want. Sleeve or no sleeve 64 oz of fluid a day is recommended to keep you body healthy. It moisturizes your skin, helps your kidneys flush away waste, helps your GI system digest and excrete ( lessens your chance for constipation), helps keep your mucous membranes moist....on and on and on. Good luck.

  9. As a preteen I was heavy and went on my first diet when I was 13. Stayed thin throughout high school...5'6 125#. Was 135# by the time I married and gained every year and have been struggling for over 20 years.

Love this....these demons always stay with us waiting to pop out at a weak moment.
  11. The studies that I have read all discuss partial gastrectomies due to peptic ulcer disease. It was low on the risk factors after heredity and smoking and several more.

    Questions.....

Great advice. Time yourself....20 minutes. I still us the small untensils that I received in the hospital (when eating at home) to make sure my bites are small. Chew well, eat slow. Good luck and enjoy. I found out that sometimes one bite is enough of a food I thought I missed.

Hurry Up Now Take Your Time

Don't give up. I got a denial letter before I got an approval. She may of hurt your feelings and done it in the wrong way but those who file our information have a pretty good idea of what gets the "ok'. Find out what you need to qualify...is your BMI 40 or over? If it is 35-40 do you have two co mormidities? (hypertension, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, diabetes..etc)? Always be polite when talking to her and your insurance company...lots of please, thank yous.....lots of sweetness. Find out when she submitted your information then start calling your insurance company about a week after that with weekly calls to find out the status. Be vigilant but nice. Good luck. It is all worth it when done.

"you must feel so much better now..."

Yes this must bother you. It's funny cause when people tell me how good I look I usually reply that I feel so much better.

    Obsessed

This is a great site! From the time I decided to persue this avenue to a denial letter from my insurance thru my surgery last January I have received a lot of support and kindness. My many questions and concerns are also address. I also say...Thank you! Good Luck!

    Buyers remorse anyone?

I don't think I would call it remorse. Twice I remember thinking...what did I do? That was when I was being wheeled into surgery and a few days post op. I was just scarred and hoping I didn't get any complications. I am almost six months out.....NO REGRETS. I love my sleeve....love how I feel and look!
  18. I am also a nurse. You would be having pain and changes in your blood work. You must try to drink and get in your fluids....it is very important!

    Will it go away?

I am a nurse in a busy hospital and it got to be that my back, feet, ankles and knees would just ache and hurt after a shift. It was amazing how great I felt after the first 25-30 came off....it's wonderful!
  20. Things will get better.....those feelings go away in time. I loved eggs prior to sleeve but now they don't always settle too well. My breakfast every day consists of 1/4 cup cream of wheat with a pad of butter....it holds me till lunch.

    Burn Baby Burn!

I take omeprazole (over the counter) every morning and it helps keep it at bay.

Starving and full at the same time?

I agree with above...skip the carbs and the sugar....use a substitute for your coffee.

    Is obesity a medical condition.....

My insurance required a BMI of 40 or greater for approval or, a BMI between 35-40 with two co morbidities.
  24. I know what you mean...I was worried too because before, I ate even when I was not hungry. With the sleeve...when you are full....you are done. You do have to eat slow (over 20 minutes). If you eat too fast then you are miserable in 20 minutes. It is a different kind of "full"....I think it is more intense.

    Realalistic goal

I figured out what my normal BMI weight is and went for the high end of my Normal (healthy ) BMI. For me that was 150....5'6"
