Surgery date 12/14
I just had the sleeve 10 day ago. I do not have a thyroid. I will be on pills for the rest of my life. But as far as weight loss goes I have lost 25 lbs since pre-op so I guess it doesn't matter. If you don't have an endocrinologist, may I suggest that you go to one. They know more then the primary care.

To all my friends on Vertical Sleeve Talk!
I am 10 days post-op and doing very well. I am 66 years old. I started this journey 9 months ago. I read and read and read. When I got weak and was going to drop out you all were there for me. I would read your posts and see how well everyone was doing and I would trudge on. If it had not been for you all I would of said forget it. My husband was against it. My kids were behind me but I have 3 boys and they never tried to talk me out of it but they were not there on an everyday basis. It was very scary at my age. I had to go through every test immaginable. I passed them all. Now I am 25 lbs lighter and on my way to a better life. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sleeve or Lap Band
I am newly sleeved 10 days ago. I went to my first WLS meeting 9 months ago. I had already looked into the band 4 years prior and even signed up for it but changed my mind. I am so glad I did. There are so many people out there with problems with the band. Do your research before your decide. When I went to the last WLS meeting I found out about the sleeve. I had never heard of it before. I went to consider the by-pass. When I heard about the sleeve I was very excited. That is when I started my research. And here I am 25 lbs lighter and things are looking up for me. Best of luck.

Trying Not to freak out today...
I'm 10 days out and it was not that bad. The people in the hospital I went to were just great to me. From the people that signed me in to all the pple in the OR. There are a lot of pple in the OR so be prepared for that. A lot more than I would have thought. You will do just fine. I have already lost 25 lbs since pre-op. Keep your mind on that.

New and beginning the journey...
You are still going to have to count calories and protein and probably other things. I am only newly sleeved and I have to count how many ounces I eat and how many oz I drink. It is definitely a new way of life. So make sure you do your research and decide if this is for you. But on the other hand you will lose weight. I am but 10 days out and have lost 25 lbs since pre-op. Best of luck and we are all here for you.

December 11th I'm being reborn to the rest of my life!
I guess I have told you this before but you look just like my oldest son. I had the sleeve on Nov 28 and am doing just fine. I am down 22 lbs since pre-op. This was a 9 month process for me also. Most are on clear liquids after surgery for at least 2 days. Best of luck to you Proctor and I will be praying for you.

Thanks for saving me seat!
I had surgery on Nov 28 and my stomach looked like a mountain range. Now at 8 days out that is all gone. In fact today I can finally drink like a normal person again. I was having so much trouble even getting water down. I see improvment everyday. I lost another 6 lbs since 2 days ago. Hard to believe. I guess mostly water. My feet legs and ankles were very swollen for about 6 days and that is gone now. Hang in there. It gets better everyday.

Getting Sleeved In 4 Hrs. Scared To Death!
You will be just fine. I am one week out and food is the last thing on my mind. There is no hunger. So far not tempted by food commercials. I eat my mushies and try to get in my liquids and protein. This first week that is a full time job. Best of luck to you.

Sluggish
I was sleeved last Wed. It was a 9 month journey for me. On one hand it seemed like it took forever and on the other it was only yesterday. I had two weeks of pre-op shakes and six 1/2 cup servings of certain things. After the 3rd day none of that was so bad. Just missed the real Thanksgiving but I had my family one on a Sunday before the pre-op started so I don't feel like I missed anything.

Yogurts
They told me to use Kroger's Carbsmart. They told me not to use the greek even though it has a lot of protein because it is too high in carbs.

Post Op Pain.
Had my surgery Nov 28. Same thing here. On the right side he had to go through a lot of scar tissue also and everytime I go to get out of a chair or the bed it feels like a knife is going in thru to my back. When I try to walk the infamous 10 minutes I tire so easily. I am on the liquid percocet and I have enough for 2 weeks 6 times a day. I have had many surgeries and never any as painful as this has been for me.

What Does "rough" Mean?
I just was sleeved this past Wed. When you wake up from surgery I felt like a freight train had run over me. It was rough. I came home yesterday and the surgeon had to go thru a lot of heavy scar tissue from my gall bladder surgery from 30 years ago. So I still am in a lot of pain. I am struggling to drink all the fluids and walk as much as they advised. Also I do not know how old you are but I am 66 and still had the nerve to go thru with this. I want to be able to get around in my last years. Everytime I see someone in a cart or wheelchair and they are overweight I bet most of the time it is from the weight. I don't want to be that old person. You have to keep your eye on the prize and by next year at this time I hope we all meet here and tell each other all the changes that have happened in our lives. It may be a rough patch for a few weeks but not near as rough as spending the rest of your life housebound or in a nursing home or dependent on others for your everyday care.

5 Days Post-Op, 1 Lb A Day?
I had surgery Nov 28 and I had lost 15 lbs pre-op. Weighed myself today and I gained 5 lbs during the surgery. This is very depressing to me. My diabetes did not go away, gained back some of the pre-op weight. Please explain why this happened.

58 And A Breast Cancer Survivor. Anyone Else Out There?
Well I had the surgery on this past Wed. I had my 66th birthday. So you definitely are not too old. I am a type II diabetic on large amount of insulin plus pills. This is why I had this surgery. I hope that I get off the insulin. That is my main goal. The first visit they deceide what your insurance will pay and what you have to do for them. Then in my case I had to have a 3 month NUT visits and tests and more tests. Then they schedule your surgery and I had to do a 2 week pre-op diet. I lost 15 lbs during this time. In the 3 months I never lost much of anything. It was as if every meal was my last. So it is up to you weither you chose to lose before hand. Best of luck to you. Keep in touch.

Sleeved!
Well, i am sleeved. Had surgery on Nov 28, past Wednesday. Came home today. In a lot of pain and taking pain meds every four hours. I sure hope I don't get dehydrated because I can not seem to drink enough liquids. They had me on a bag of stuff in the hospital and I was keeping hydrated. The doctor had a hard time getting through some scar tissue from my gall badder surgery 30 years ago. This is where he put the large insruments in and where he pulled the stomach out. My internet was out before I went to the hospital for a couple days. So I missed out on all you guys encouragement at the last minute. Surprised my self that I did not chicken out. My surgery was over 1 hour late. They said the doctor was late and he must of had some problems with the one before me. Needless to say there were 3 more after me. Everyone at the hospital were very good and treated me excellent. I was impressed. He said he had no pictures. I would have liked to seen my sleeve but will not I guess. We left for the hospital at 6:15 and arrived at 7:15. My surgery was scheduled for 9:15 but was not done until 10:45. Inside the surgery suite I met the nicest -people. All of them in their 30's and we had a few laughs before they put me out. When I awoke I felt like a freight train over me. Terrible pain. Stayed in recovery till 3:00. They were waiting for a room. I also had very good nurses and PCA's. I was given a chose of going home the next day or stay another night and I chose to stay. I am glad that I did. It gave me more time to figure out how to get up and down and to drink (I still don't have that down). So stay as long as you can. Don't be in a rush to get home. Now my journey begins. Oh by the way I lost 15 lbs on the pre-op diet and I don't know if I gained on the hospital stay. I get to have Mushy food starting tomorrow. Looking forward to tuna salad. I wish everyone best of luck on your upcoming surgery.
