Seasoned sleepers
Sleevers who are at goal: Do you eat other things besides Protein? I am six weeks out and eat mostly protein. I am losing slowly. I hope one day I can eat a meal with meat, veg, and starch. Does this happen at goal? All the research I did on the sleeve before I had it and still did not realize it was the Atkins diet but with a lot less food. I think when I go to the dr this week I will be released to all food. I want a salad, a piece of apple not in that order. Any advise?

Newbie...and a little frightened
You do not need all those details now. You have a long journey and many things to go thru to get to the surgery. It is major surgery and changes the way you eat forever. I am 5 weeks post op and have lost 33 lbs. I wish they had had this surgery when I was your age. My life would have been so much different and healthier. I am 66 with many illnesses and I hope as time goes on they improve. Go to the seminar, read posts here as often as possible, and make an educated opinion. Best of luck.

Just wanted to inform everyone that Medicare does pay for the sleeve. Had surgery 5 weeks ago and just got the hospital bill &medicare did pay for real. I know there has been a lot of questions whether they would pay or not. Hope this helps ones that are on the fence.

Anthem Blue Cross Requiring 3 Months of Nutritionist's Evaluation
I had bcbs also ans had to do the 90 days. It did not help me because I kept thinking this is my last meal. I was warned by the dr the last month that i had to lose at least 2 to 4 lbs or he would not do the surgery. Well I did and now I am 5 weeks post op and down 33 lbs. I had Medicare also and just got a statement that Medicare paid most of the hospital bill but bcbs paid 2000 of the hospital, was worth the time.

60+ sleevers please help
I am 66 and had surgery 5 weeks ago. I have lost a total of 33 lbs since the beginning of pre-op. Due to pain issues I am not able to exercise as many do. I can walk but it is very cold where I live and it would have to be in the house or the mall. I have gone to the mall numberous times but still can only walk a short distance and then I must sit down. I have only lost 1 lb in the last 2 weeks. It is very discouraging. I can not eat much. I try to drink all that is required but that is very hard also. Protein about 50 a day. I would like to hear from others that are my age and how you are doing. Most people that post are 40 or less and don't have the problems older people have.

Hi everyone!
Why would they kick you out. you need to talk to them and be up front about this issue. You need them now more than ever and they could definitely learn from you.. Maybe they are afraid you are going to lecture them about their weight. We can guess all kinds of things but you need to talk it out and get to the bottom of it.

I can eat more now, I'm worried
I believe that popcorn is what they call a slider food and does not make you full.

Normal
Good for you. Isn't it funny how we all equate normal to be something different? Usually it is the pple that we look up to. The so called pretty pple that have the looks, the good jobs, the great family lives and many friends. But just maybe we are the normal ones, ever think about that. Best of luck on your journey.

surgery on 12/29/12
You need nothing. I brought all this stuff and never oppened the bag. You are drugged up and if you are not sleeping you are walking. You have an IV all the while you are there so even a robe can not be put on. You need like a pair of sandles with a hard sole to walk in. Slides that are easy to put on. That is it.

Greetings from Kuala Lumpur (left arm pain, nausea)
Blenderize tuna, beef, chicken and add spices you would like. Put into ice cube trays and freeze. Pop out and put in bags for use later. Then you can grab out of freezer and put in microwave and eat slowly 2 oz. Do this for awhile with your Protein shakes and you will not get sick. eggs should be on your food list at this point. A litttle low fat cheese. Low fat cottage cheese. Stick to these easy to digest things and you should not get sick. Jello, peaches blenderized like the meat above. Just try to find low sugar things. Can't you buy sugar free things off the internet. Sugar free jello, crystal lite. You must stay away from sugar and starches at this point in order to lose your optimun weight. Good luck to you on your journey. Also I forgot drink 64 oz of liquids a day which since you do not have sugar free you need to do mostly Water and then decaf coffee or tea or broth.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE
Well today is the end of another Christmas. I count my blessings everyday. My whole immediate family showed up Cristmas Eve. We ate a fun meal, well at least they did, I am only 3 weeks out. Then proceded to open all the presents and then played games. A very enjoyable evening. I was given some smaller clothes and some of them fit. That was fun. Mainly I wanted to tell everyone Merry Christmas. I hope your day was as great as mine was. I also hope our New Year holds many good surprises for us all.

Pain After Surgery
You are getting close. Mine stopped about 4 days out. Just a little pulling after that. I am 3 weeks out and if I bend to pick up something or move in a fuuny way it will still hurt.
-
1 week out :D
This will pass at the 3 week mark. I don't have it anymore and I was like that also.
-
I can't do it anymore!
Luv2liz: I am 3 weeks out also. I have felt the same way you do at times. I promised myself before surgery that no matter what happened I would not regret doing this. It was my choice and mine only. In fact my husband did not want me to do it. I did it to get off of the mega amounts of insulin I was on. My sugar was fine at the 2 week mark but has progressively gotten higher and is so high now that I will not heal properly. My endo put me on a different pill and it doesn't seem to be working. I see insulin in my future again and this makes me very sad. But I will not beat myself up, and will keep on trying because that is all that I can do. So keep your head up, smile and keep on going. I hated the protein also so I got some powdered peanut butter. One TBS mix in the shake takes that taste away. I'm sure you know what taste I am talking about. How about shaved turkey and ham? Eat it very slow and that is so good. I also added cheese but now I am constipated so I wouldn't do that now.

3 days post opp and emotional!
Same here. Lost 15 pre-op and gained 6 after surgery. My stomach looked like a mountain range from all the swolling and the water and gases from surgery. My feet legs and ankles were swollen also. After 6 days I lost the 6 I gained and at 3 weeks out I am down 31 and am in a stall. That is how it worked for me.

Head hunger / Post op day 5
I had surgery 3 weeks ago. Two days after my own birthday and one week after my son's birthday. My granddaughter's birthday was Dec 4. Thanksgiving was in there (the pre-op diet). I went to my granddaughters dinner and we had it at Bob Evans (she wanted me to cook her a meal). Not this year sweet pea. I sat there 5 days after surgery sipping ice Water while everyone ate dumplings, pancakes smothered in whipped cream, chicken fried steak smothered in gravy. You get the picture. Then for her birthday cake a whole coca cola cake and everyone said it tasted like a brownie my fave. Needless to say that was the last holiday party I have attended. I'm still not all the way well and just don't want to go through that again. I did make one decesion correctly. I had our family Thanksgiving before the pre-op diet and that was 2 weeks before Thanksgiving so I did not miss that family day. I think everyone was glad because the majority went out shopping on Thanksgiving. I am having Christmas Eve and there will be 12 of us and I am making a amount of food that I can enjoy. It will be great. It's almost here.

How to track fluid, containers for, too much fluid at once a problem?
I measure a cup in a glass and when that is gone I do another. I put little stick figures on a piece of paper where I keep track of my calories and protein.

Pureed Foods
Anything can be pureed. Tuna with pickle juice and a little low fat mayo. Lean Hamburger with tomato sauce. Anything at all that you can blend into a mush.

Overwhelmed and Frustrated
I am 3 weeks out and I have been getting the food coming up in my throat after I eat. I started omneprazole I had at the house and called the dr. He is orderring the kind he wants me to take. I had hoped this would not happen to me but maybe it will be a short lived thing. I also started eating pickle chips. Mainly i suck on them and then eat the inside of it. They tasted so good. Wonder if this is bad?
