I am scheduled for surgery on Dec. 11 and I keep reading that people find the first days, weeks, months "rough". What did that term mean for you (those who have been sleeved)?

I just was sleeved this past Wed. When you wake up from surgery I felt like a freight train had run over me. It was rough. I came home yesterday and the surgeon had to go thru a lot of heavy scar tissue from my gall bladder surgery from 30 years ago. So I still am in a lot of pain. I am struggling to drink all the fluids and walk as much as they advised. Also I do not know how old you are but I am 66 and still had the nerve to go thru with this. I want to be able to get around in my last years. Everytime I see someone in a cart or wheelchair and they are overweight I bet most of the time it is from the weight. I don't want to be that old person. You have to keep your eye on the prize and by next year at this time I hope we all meet here and tell each other all the changes that have happened in our lives.

It may be a rough patch for a few weeks but not near as rough as spending the rest of your life housebound or in a nursing home or dependent on others for your everyday care.

I also wonder what "rough" means to some i was sleeved monday and i was sore when I woke up and had some pain but it was bearable, I took very little pain meds. I'm doing fine getting my fluids and proteins in just have to sip sip all day. The crushed meds are nasty, some even mixed with applesauce are just so bitter. I'm less sore everyday. I'm bored with the liquid diet but only have one more week till pureed. I haven't had any complications (Thank You Lord) so I can't really say any of my expierience thus far has been rough by my definition of the word. I guess I would say a little uncomfortable at times but thats about it. Just Follow instructions and don't cheat.

My rough was the moment I woke up from surgery. The pain was very bad. The first word out of my mouth was "pain." They must have doped me up immediately because I remember nothing after that until I woke up in my hospital bed. I never needed additional pain medication. I consider the rest of my recovery coasting including the post-op diet. Really, the various stages of diet are so fleeting that I consider them pesky rather than rough, an eye on the prize sort of thing.

The diet was never rough IMO, it was the pain. Unable to get up easily, so hard to swallow, so weak, etc. for me that lasted a couple of months due to complications. Rough lol...I'm not sure that term is even adequate when you are having your ribs spread to stick a garden hose into them....rough...heh heh.

After the complication pain and suffering, I'd say the initial surgery issues were a walk in the park...maybe on a rainy day, but still bearable in comparison.

mokee, I'm 67 and I'm with you on wanting to have active years coming up. I love my life and I want to live it well. I dread vomiting/dry heaving - I've had heavy pain and think I have the experience to handle that.
