  1. Justine- Another sleever recommended that to me and it worked for me!
  2. Get an egg-timer and set it for 10 minutes. Every time it rings take another sip. That was the only way I could get myself to keep sipping. The first few days are the worst, you'll turn a corners soon! Hang in there!
  3. I don't think anyone was able to drink anywhere near 50-60g in the first week. I think your doctor would want you to concentrate more on Water than anything else so you don't get dehydrated. I feel your pain, I am three weeks out and believe me it does get easier! One sleever told me to set a timer and force yourself to take another sip every 10 minutes. That helped remind me to keep drinking all day. Good luck!
  4. The pre-op diet is absolute torture! I was also on it for three weeks and thought I was going to pull my hair out. It does get better! The first few days in particular your body goes through withdrawal and detox! Hang in there!
  5. I've been living off of laughing cow cheese and saltine crackers this week. Once a day I allow my self 3 saltines otherwise I wrap the cheese in a soft piece of turkey deli meat.
  6. Same here, my surgery was July 29th and I lost 10 pre-op and another 20 pounds since surgery. I also feel like I am slow moving particularly since I lost so much the first week. Water and Protein are a daily struggle. I've been taking classes at LA Fitness 4-5 times a week. Keep it up ladies!
  7. I was terribly nervous about the EGD and it was required by my surgeon before surgery. In all honesty, the worst part was getting the I.V. Once they give you the "happy juice" you don't remember anything and I woke up and went home within an hour. My throat felt a little raw, but it really wasn't a big deal at all. You've already done the hard part, you'll be fine!
  8. I did have gas pains and definitely needed to be helped out of the hospital bed the first day. I was amazed, though, at how good I felt after three days. I had myself terrified and worked up that I was going to be bed ridden for a month and in miserable pain. I took liquid tylenol with codine for the first few days, but my surgery was on a Thursday and by Sunday I turned a major corner. It really is funny how worked up we can get ourselves and I thought the worrying was worse than the actual pain. You'll definitely want a pillow (especially for the car ride home) and a heating pad for the gas/muscle soreness for the first few days. I slept in our recliner since lying down wasn't pleasant. I really think you'll do fine. It is a small price to pay!
  9. I am with you ladies! It is amazing to me what a chore eating has become. I also feel like I've gotten this under control only to push myself a little to far and it all comes back up. I've found that 3 saltine crackers and 2 pieces of laughing cow cheese is one of the only things I can tolerate right now. The shakes are nauseating as well as anything sugar free. On a positive note I feel like I can already drink more Water than in the first two weeks and that is encouraging. I am hoping in one more week when I move to soft foods I will have more success getting all of my needed Protein. No one said this would be easy, but geez!!!
  10. Do any of you use a Bodybugg or device to measure the amount of calories you burn during exercise? How can I calculate what I burning daily? Thanks!
  11. That is inspiring! Congrats you look amazing!
  12. I am almost three weeks post-op and had no complications. I agree with JDHenin....reading this site before surgery made me a paranoid mess! I think as long as you are honest with yourself and are aware of the risks that is enough, no reason to be so anxious you sabotage pre-op. If you can, find a support group locally. I met a group of women a few weeks before my surgery and it was great motivation to see people at different stages. Not one person regretted having the operation which eased my mind.
  13. I HATE STALLS!!! I am almost three weeks out and I believe I was in a stall last week. Week One- 17 pounds Week Two- 0 pounds Week Three- 3 pounds I was so encouraged after that first week, I figured the weight would just start falling off. Not so much, this process is difficult and NOT the easy way out. STAY STRONG!!!
  14. I can have pureed tuna. I need to dilute it more as it was too thick and dense today with just light miracle whip and avocado.
  15. Great ideas. I will call my Nutritionist on Monday! The carbs are coming from the smoothies I have been making with frozen fruit. I am finding it difficult to consume enough mushie Protein. I have ordered those "new whey liquid protein" shots and hoping that will help if I can sip on those throughout the day. Thank you everyone!
  16. I'd like to know the same. I cannot tolerate anything sweet. Mushie stage is so difficult!
  17. VSG Friends- I am just over two weeks post-op and had a fantastic first week and lost 15 pounds. In the second week I only lost 2 pounds. I am half way through week three and I won't weigh myself because I am already feeling depressed. I have been getting anywhere from 40-60g of Protein daily, 70-100g carbs per day, and most of my Water. I am having a hard time with the protein since I am on mushies. I've worked out 4 times a week an hour at a time. What am I doing wrong? What mushy protein's did you eat? I am still listless and have no energy. Thanks for your advice!
  18. I went to back a week after surgery and did fine. I actually welcomed the distraction since I was sick of being in the house for a week straight. I like my routine. It is difficult to make myself exercise right now since my energy is so low, but I haven't left early once. We are stronger than we think!
  19. I was sleeved 2 days after you. Are you eating mushies? What does your diet consist of? Also, I lost 17 pounds in the first week and now nothing. Did you stall at all? Sounds like you are doing so well, congrats!
  20. I had the same feeling the first few days after surgery. It went away, I really think it was swelling. You will be fine!
  21. I am going to my first aquafit class tonight. I am almost 2 weeks post op and took a cardio/weight/step class last night that absolutely kicked my behind! I am hoping the class tonight is a little less pain and little more fun! Happy loosing ladies!
  22. Hi Nicky- I had my surgery one week before you and yes, yes, yes, that first 3 days was awful! I was in pain, couldn't sleep, every swallow felt like a golfball in my stomach it was really a miserable weekend. Sunday was my turning point, I finally felt a little more human was able to take a shower. Last week I recoop'd at home and made sure to walk each day. It does get easier! Hang in there and happy recovery!
  23. I had a terrible time with my pre-op diet which was three weeks of liquids and Protein bars. I did loose 10 pounds, but I should have doubled that. My doctor said that in surgery he could tell me liver was still enlarged. I would talk to your doctor, but I spent hours hating myself because I didn't complete the perfect pre-op diet. I have lost 20 pounds in the first 10 days post-op, I'd say that was successful! Someone told me that pre-op was like a train travelling at 100 MPH and crashing.....it was a devistating mistake. Post-op was like a train travelling 10 MPH, still a hitch, but the mistakes are far smaller and you are able to make small corrections to stay on track. I refuse to engage in the age debate, because really I think anyone can handle this procedure if you are prepared. Why wouldn't you want to he healthy for the rest of your life?! Best of luck! Even if you decide to postpone surgery this is only a minor hiccup. I hated the pre-op diet because if I could have successfully dieted before surgery I wouldn't have been 290 pounds!!!
  24. Yes, completely! I cannot stand any sugar free products; pudding, jello, gatorade, crystal light. Everything tastes awful. I tried peanut butter and unfortunately still really like it. It is funny because I am now craving cheese and fish when pre-op I would have chosen chicken and something sweet everyday. Only a few more days and I can have cheese and eggs, I cannot wait!
  25. I had a similar reaction to apple sauce, I think it was because I took too big a bite. I have had it since with no problems. It is really hard to slow down! What else have you been eating? I need ideas!
