  1. I have Cigna OAP also, and my out of pocket for just me is $1,000. The out of pocket for my family is $3000. I just think $2500 seems like an awful lot for individual.
  2. I live in Cypress too, and my doctor is also Dr. Yu, and he'll be using the spider, but I don't have a date yet.::sad::
  3. I told one person in my department, the one that can't keep a secret, so she could tell everybody my plans to have surgery. I'm not ashamed, they've seen me lose weight, gain weight, and so on and so forth. I put it out there that I'd tried everything else, and surgery was my last option. I've not heard a single negative comment, however, two other nurses came out of the closet with their plans to have WLS too. Another is seriously considering it after talking to us openly about it.
  4. Congrats! You're on the road to a new, healthier you! How exciting!
  5. Lol, I know it shouldn't be funny, but it is. Dr. Yu is my surgeon too.
  6. Good Luck tomorrow. You'll come out like a champ!
  7. Good Luck today and I hope you have a speedy recovery.
  8. Wow, what an amazing support system! You're going to do great. Good Luck!
  9. Thanks PDX and New. I didn't know I had it until my doc saw it during the EGD. It does explain the horrible reflux, though.
  10. I was just thinking the same thing about the Protein drinks. Everyone says it was sort of trial and error, so I could work on finding the kind I like. My NUT said not to try to lose any weight, but to just start focusing on getting the 64oz of Water and exercise 3 days a week. This is going to drive me nuts the next couple of months. Just approve me already!
  11. Tell them, it's not worth the risk. If you're not honest about being sick prior to surgery, the anesthesia personnel could have a hard time removing the breathing tube afterward. You didn't come this far to get sicker after surgery for something totally unrelated to your sleeve. I'm an OR nurse and I'll tell you first hand, most anesthesia personnel don't routinely listen to your chest, unless you tell them you've been sick recently. Be honest!
  12. As a nurse, I've seen my share of both. I've seen healthy, thriving WLS post-op patients, and I've seen frail, sickly looking ones too. I don't know the why or the hows in the difference of appearances, but people have surgery everyday and sometimes don't bounce back as well as everybody else. I think of WLS as a chance at a better life, that comes with risks, but what's the alternative? There are healthy looking fat people (usually not for long) and there are sickly looking skinny people. I'd still rather be the sickly looking skinny person.
  13. I told the one person in my dept that can't hold water. She told any and everybody she could, and I just shrugged every time I was asked. Because we're OR nurses, everybody chimed in with their concerns about leaks, malnutrition, dehydration, and all of the above. I told them if I didn't do it, I'd be dead in a few years anyway. No one had a comeback for that one. The funny thing is that two other nurses came out the closet about their plans to have WLS too, so then it was the big girls against the skinnies.
  14. That's awesome! Are you just letting the surgery work or have you been exercising? I hate exercising. That's the only thing that worries me.
  15. Hello everybody, Cigna changed their criteria effective 5/15/12 from a 6 month medically supervised weight management program to a minimum of 3 months. If you have Cigna, and you're in the first phase of the weight management program, this applies to you. Please call your surgeon's office to see if they gotten the good news. BTW, this is courtesy of Crichard1107. She was nice enough to pass it along even though she's nearly finished with the 6 month program. Thanks!
  16. Aw, that sucks, but thanks for passing it along. I wonder if this is why the nurse in my surgeon's office called twice this week. We kept playing phone tag. Well, good luck to you, and thanks again. I'm telling everyone I know, lol.
  17. I'm so excited I can hardly type. I'm only 2 months in so if this applies to me, I could possibly get it done by the end of summer. Holy cow!!!! Thanks!
  18. Do you know which Cigna changed their policy? I have the open access plan and it sure would be nice to get sleeved sooner rather than later.
  19. I think misinformed and uneducated are the most appropriate descriptions. Even if they're thinking to themselves, "She's making a big mistake", they should smile and say I'm happy for you and I'm here if you need me. It's a shame that some people can't be supportive even when they don't agree. Fortunately for me, my family is very supportive. Even if they weren't, they know that wouldn't stop me. I've been known to do things behind their backs before. I am the only overweight person in the family, so that makes me the expert, and I make the decisions. Just think how happy you'll be when you're healthier, and they'll be the first ones to say you look great.
  20. WOW! I'm hoping I'll need no more than 3 weeks. I had to have unexpected robotic surgery earlier this month, and had to use 2 weeks PTO that I was saving for my sleeve surgery. I felt fine returning to work after 2 weeks this time, I hope it's the same for the sleeve.
  21. Hello all, I will be having single incision surgery for my sleeve, can anyone tell me how you felt post-op? Pain? Recovery time? I've had two prior laparoscopic surgeries, and I'm worried there will be a lot of scar tissue. Did anyone have any complications from having the single incision? Any comments are welcome. Thanks!
  22. Wow, that is great news! If only we could all have BCBSTX, lol.
