What Shakes Did You Use For Your Pre Op 3 Shakes A Day
My doc requires a 10 day optifast pre-op. I haven't tried it yet, but everyone I've asked about it likes it.

Im Having A Food Funeral For The Next 3 Weeks! Anyone Else?
I had one this past weekend: went to a Chinese buffet. It was a place we've gone to since I was a child, so to me it wasn't just saying goodbye to food, but I was saying goodbye to that part of my life. I will be able to eat Chinese food again, yes, but never an all-out buffet food-orgy. I don't regret it at all. This week I'm doing a high protein, low carb diet with lots of protein shakes before my pre-op diet starts. I'm glad I had the "food funeral", but am also glad it's over.

July 4Th Challenge
I haven't done great this week. Being pre-op, I'm fining it harder than ever to not just eat everything in site! I did have a bit of a NSV: we went to a Chinese buffet and I ate half as much as I would have originally. That was a big deal for me. SW:310 Pre-surgery W: 292 Surgery Weight:? Current weight: 298 So I've gained 4 lbs. this week. Meh.

Two Week Pre-Op Diet?
Hospital stay varies from doctor to doctor. Some actually DO send their patients home the same day. I don't know that I agree with that strategy, but it happens. As for pre-op diet - that's actually VERY important - every doctor is different. Some do a strict low-carb phase, some do a liquid diet, some do two weeks, some only a week. So I would definitely call the office back and ask to speak with the nurse. She should know her stuff, and if she doesn't then I'd consider another surgeon . . .

".... But You're Not That Big"
I was one of those that prescribed to the "WLS is only for ___". After listening to some peoples amazing stories, though, I've come to realize that some people that are smaller need it to save their lives just as much as I need it to save mine. Just because your BMI is 32 doesn't mean you don't still have sleep apnea, diabetes, or other weight related problems.

Feeling No Support
I LOVE this statement!! That's been my experience too. The one person that has said anything negative about it for me has never had a weight problem in her life and has always been a natural size 00.

Hi All! New To This Forum
Hi everyone! My name's Jennifer. I am fairly new to the VSG site and just joined this group. I am excited to find a Christian group - God's strength is what's going to be getting me through this, I feel. I am pre-op and just waiting on insurance approval. I called the company on Monday and they said that it was in the final stage of approval, so I'm hoping that I hear something today. I'm thanking God for my approval because I KNOW it's coming! Thank you for this group! God bless you all!

God's got this!

Feeling No Support
I will be completely open about it. My goal is to educate people that are naive and ignorant about WLS. People will always have opinions, but we have to deal with negativity in other ways too not just over WLS. Ultimately, though, you have to do what's right for you and whatever is going to help you on this journey. That's why forums like this are so important - we need the support that only comes from others going through the same thing. God bless :-)

2 weeks out- missing my Tabasco!
I've been wondering about this too - I have a great recipe for a spicy enchilada soup that I can do during the full liquid stage, but I'm unsure if my tummy will be able to handle the heat!

Whats Better Sleeve Or Ru En Y?
I agree - I'd look into a different surgeon. The one I'm going to has done a good amount, but also not so many that he's a "meat market" doc. I also agree with the hair loss issue - any surgery you have weather it be RnY, Sleeve, bypass, or lapband - hair loss is a very real possibility if not probability. That being said, I have to say that I appreciate the fact that you're doing your research - whatever you chose to do, I have a feeling you will be very well informed :-)

Unflavored Unjury Protein . . ?
I apologize if this is a repeat question - I did a search and didn't find anything on this, so I thought I'd ask! Has anyone tried the unjury unflavored Protein? I'm thinking about getting that to start with along with the vanilla so that I can add my own flavors to it, then get other flavors later, but I wanted to know how it is as far a texture and blendability (if that is even a word, LOL). Thanks all in advance!

Whats Better Sleeve Or Ru En Y?
One of my closest friends had the RnY done and she regrets it and told me she wishes she'd done the sleeve instead. She has anemia, vitamin deficiencies, and IBS right now and she attributes it to the RnY.
