  1. I am being banded Aug. 23. I started my pre-op yesterday. My dr. doesn't require it but I felt it be in my best interest to do it anyway to ensure a smooth procedure. So while I'm trying to stick to all liquids; protein shakes, broth, water w/ Crystal Light, sf jello and popsicles I did eat a boiled egg last night. Still no carbs so that wasn't so bad especially since I am not REQUIRED to do the pre-op diet. But I am SO hungry (mostly head hunger) and want to sink my teeth into some meat!!!
  2. Yes, I only have used Unjury so far. I like it. I can usually drink it no problems but for some reason today I'm having a problem choking my first one down. I know it's all in my head. Gotta get over that.
  3. Im being banded Aug. 23. Im starting my self imposed liquid diet today. My dr. doesnt require a liquid pre op diet but im gonna do one any way just to ensure no complications of a fatty liver. Wish me luck!!!!

Congrats on your approval!!! I get banded Aug. 23. My dr. doesn't require a pre-op diet either but I am choosing to do it anyway just so there will be no complications and I can shrink my liver (the whole reason behind a pre-op diet). In my mind I feel like I need to do it. Good luck on your endeavor:)
  5. Not sure about any of the other stuff since I'm not banded yet (aug. 23) but the Lipton Diet Mixed Berry Green tea is SOOOO yummy. I buy it all the time now and that's all I drink besides water w/ Crystal Light. I've now cut out all soda from my diet and haven't had soda in almost a month. I'm not even missing it. I love the tea!!!!
  6. yeah, I'm planning on taking a couple shakes and lots of water (w/ Crystal Light). Would watermelon be ok on the liquid diet? Regardless of the reunion, I still want options. I mean, watermelon does have the word "WATER" in it right! LOL I'll do broths at home and shakes and sf popsicles and sf jello but I know I will just want to sink my teeth into something. Everyone's version of their pre-op diet is different, some got to eat lean meats and veggies and others are strictly liquids. Since my dr. doesn't require this pre-op I don't know which is best and what do to. I just want to ensure less complications at surgery.
  7. I'm glad someone else asked because I was wondering the exact same thing. LOL
  8. So I get banded on Aug. 23 and my dr. doesn't require a pre-op liquid diet but I'm doing it anyway just to ensure liver reduction and less complications there. My problem is that my family reunion is on Aug. 19, right in the midst of my liquid diet I LOVE eating at the reunion all the good food my family members bring. I plan on taking a couple protein shakes with me (Unjury all the way) but don't know what else I should take to ensure that I stay focused being around all that food. Is unsweetened apple sauce ok? Any suggestions would be helpful. It's outside so I don't have access to a microwave for broth and it will be hot out. Please help becuse I feel I will cave around all that food and I don't want to. Missy
  9. So I'm not banded yet (go in 8/23 ) and trying to chew chew chew chew and take small bites and not drink while eating. I'm doing decent on the chewing and small bites but the not drinking anything while eating is HARD ! I am SO used to doing it and don't even realize when I'm reaching over to grab my drink (even though it just water) after several bites!! I'm currently eating my lunch and want a drink SO stinking bad. I haven't had one yet but I'll be counting down the minutes til 30 minutes after last bite for a big gulp! Does anyone have any suggestions for tips on this? I can't think of any.
  10. I read somewhere to use baby utensils while eating to help with portion control and in doing so your bites will be smaller and if you chew them the required/suggested amount of times food should go down easily. I mentioned this to my mom and she went to the kitchen and brought me the baby spoons that we used to feed my daughter (she's 19 now) when I still lived at home . It was neat to have them and now I can use them. Might be something to try, couldn't hurt. I also am getting banded on Aug. 23 and have all these same questions running through my mind. Good luck
  11. I ordered the sample pack of Unjury to try it and really liked the chocolate splendor. The vanilla is good too but needed something added to it like fruit maybe. I added the unflavored to my strawberry crystal light at it was decent. Haven't tried the chicken soup flavor yet. I will be buying a container of the chocolate splendor though this week.
  12. Aug. 23rd is my day!!! Just got the call that my insurance approved!!!!! UGH!!!!! Excited and scared!!!!

Well, just got the call this morning around 10:30 that my insurance has approved my surgery and it's now scheduled for Aug. 23!!!! I could have scheduled for the 16th and that was my plan but there are a lot of things going on here at work that I needed to be here for so I pushed it to the 23rd. The nurse said they also had Aug. 9th open but that's a little TOO early for me. It's all becoming very REAL now. I mean, I knew the time would come but now that it's here I'm nervous, anxious, scared, excited, and really having second thoughts. Is this normal? Anyone else feel the same? But I know to get healthy this is what I HAVE to do. I can't do it alone, I need this tool to help me. I can do it!! I've GOT to do it! Please everyone who reads this, please send advice. I need it.
  14. Well, just got the call and my insurance has approved my surgery!!!!! I'm scheduled for Aug. 23rd. It's very REAL now and I'm starting to get nervous, anxious, scared, and second guessing myself. Is this normal? Also, my dr. doesn't require the 2 week pre-op liquid diet but i think I'm going to do it for 1 week prior just to be on the safe side and also to get myself prepared for the liquid diet after. Prayers and encouraging words are appreciated here!!!
  15. How many cups/oz's etc do you use of each ingredient? These both sounds yummy!
  16. Hey guys! August will be here before we know it and if you are like me, you are starting to get a bit scared, anxious, excited, etc. on getting banded. While we all know the band is only a "tool", but thought this sounded more "profound" to me. I found this great quote (I guess a quote) on another band site by a registerd dietician and she said, "Get committed to the process, NOT the outcome". She was replying to a post someone left saying they were not losing the weight like they felt they should. She determined they weren't following the rules and not eating properly. So basically we need to get committed to the process of not drinking when we eat, getting enough protein, stay away from "sliders", chewing enough, taking small bites, etc. And stop focusing on the the outcome of being skinny or losing tons of weight straight out of the gate. Anyway, I liked that way of thinking and thought I would share it w/ all of you August Bandsters in hopes it will help with your way of thinking also .
  17. Good information to know!!! Glad someone asked, I would have never thought to ask this. Pending insurance approval, I'm getting banded Aug. 16th.
  18. I just ordered the starter kit and my son called and said it was delivered today. I hope they taste as good as all have been saying. Let me know if you like them. I'm going to make a shake tomorrow morning to try it out. If I like it, I'll be ordering more for after my surgery to have on hand. I was wondering about the chewable vitamins also. Let me know what you think about them also, please.
  19. I'm tentatively scheduled for surgery Aug. 16 (awaiting ins. approval) and my dr. doesn't require the pre-op liquid diet either. However, I asked the dietician about it and she said I could do it for 1 week prior if it makes me feel better. I'm worried about a fatty liver and that's why i'm choosing to do it. I don't want any complications at all. Plus, kind of like a practice run since I'll have to be on liquids after anyhow. Good luck!
  20. Hello Ashley! My name is Missy and I, too, live in Indiana. I'm currently awaiting insurance approval (fingers crossed). I'm about the same size as you and weight and my BMI is 40%. GOod luck to you on your journey.
  21. Love reading your blogs. I am awaiting insurance approval, well, actually the dr. office is sending their write up in this week. I hope to be as optimistic as you!! Wishing you continued success....
