I am NEAR Louisville, Kentucky. My lap band surgeon is Dr. Jeff Allen at Norton's.
I have been on this lap band journey for almost 18 months ... glad to help out with any questions

Yes, I also have to resort to Protein Shakes or soft foods anywhere from 3 to 5 days before my cycle starts; I don't go for an unfill

I paid out of pocket. This surgery wasn't bad at all. In a week I was out shopping. Everyone is different but I will tell you I do Pilates which I started right after my band surgery (June 2011). Had my TT march 1. It made all the difference in the world. My Dr said doing Pilates made his job easier and my healing easier. Make sure you do everything the dr says, get your Protein in and Walk. The more you move the quicker you'll heal. I'm back at the gym I just do what ever doesn't hurt. Sneezing hurts so hold a pillow and sneeze with your mouth open. This is a life changing surgery, more than the band, the band helped me change my lifestyle to a healthy one but this surgery is a very visual one. I had a hanging lower abdomen for 29 years and I can tell you when he took off the bandages I cried, not from pain but from being able to see my feet and my other parts with out bending forward, stepping out of the shower and not lifting the skin to dry off, putting on a pair of pants with out smashing the skin in to zip up, all the things that were normal for me were gone and in place of that was a whole new world. Not only will this change your body but it will change your emotional look at your body.

Good luck. It is hard to figure out who to tell. You can always reveal later. But can't take it back. Watch out for people who gossip is the only thing I'm careful of. 6+ years and lots don't know for me

LadyMaggie reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in Bra Recommendations Please!
Ok ladies, after losing 227 pounds I've gone from a 52G/H to a 36DD bra. The problem is, my girls are awful. No really, they're very droopy and sometimes I swear there's more skin than breast tissue. They need some serious help so I don't look like an issue of National Geographic gone horribly wrong.
So, I'm looking for your input. For those of who have bigger boobs, like a D cup or more, what bra do you prefer? I need something with lift but also some light padding in the cup so the girls don't look odd shaped. But, not too much padding because I don't want to look bigger and not "push up" because I'm not trying to be cleavage queen, either. Just some shape and to hoist the girls back up where they belong.
    Thanks ladies!!

Here is how I handle the holidays and food . . . . TRUE STORY
My husband and I have a deal that he goes through line first and I put whatever food he is eating.
Then, when he is done eating, we switch plates. No one in my family has picked up on this.
My husband is VERY health and does NOT have weight issues --- he has always had second's

I wish I would've done this. I was so excited about my surgery, I told my family and closest friends....and my mother told some relatives... now I feel like everyone is constantly looking to see what I'm eating/losing. It's just added a lot more scrutiny and pressure.

I got more Reinforcement why I'm not telling my coworkers today! We were talking about "master chef" and I mentioned the bigger of the three had WLS and a coworker said "well he's still big!" I was shocked and said "well he just had it done give him a minute!" Lol everyone must think you will wake up from surgery thin! >.<
I don't want or need that negative judgement when I become banded!

I have chosen to only tell a few chosen people. I am very happy with my decision. It has been 2 years and to be honest, I wish I told less people however each person knows it is a secret.

I can relate to your post; I asked myself the same thing . . mostly because it took me 1 1/2 years to deal with some medical issues, and then insurance.
I will say at this point (17 months out), I do not have any regrets.
    Good luck on your journey!

I agree that on some days breakfast is a good idea; if I have a Protein Shake, I will usually have enough Protein for the start of the day.

LadyMaggie got a reaction from pastor o in Medical Mystery: Where does the saline / fluid go?
I would like to know if the cc level of your band decreases, where does that go?
My lap band surgeon told me during my June 2013 visit that I had 7 cc's. Went to the doctor today for a small fill and he informs me I know have 6 cc's. I have NOT had an unfill; so, this does not make sense to me (?)
Any insight or feedback is greatly appreciated.

LadyMaggie reacted to lellow in Medical Mystery: Where does the saline / fluid go?
I was losing about 2cc every 3 months and it was a slow leak. I would get them to check it again every 2 months and record how much was in before and how much was in after. With a slow leak there isn't really a 'test' they can do to detect it, checking the amount of Fluid in your band is the only way to diagnose it.
Slow leaks usually occur in the port or tubing and can be easily fixed by replacing these during day surgery. I say "usually" because mine was in my band itself and so it took longer for them to diagnose and fix.

It sounds like your band needs to be checked for a leak. There is no way to lose a full cc of Fluid in two months.
