Passionatehrt reacted to Cazzy in Easier Way To Drink My Protein!!!
According to research, and i think Alex mentioned this, your body can only metabolise around 25 to 30 grms of Protein at any time so be careful not to overload your system, some people will be ok having an intake of protein that big, but i had type 2 diabetes and if u eat too much protein it metabolises into glucogen and will be stored as as fat , .. it sounds good to experiement and make something that u can tolerate but be aware that amount in one go might not be the greatest method to get your daily intake in

Well since I posted this topic sex has become less frequent cause I give my all at the gym. I usually dont leave until I am crawling out to my car, I go all out! Well, now when we do umm do it it should prob be broadcast!!! XD
Seriously, more positions, longer lastin (i uped it and hes trying to keep up), working up a dripping sweat... I loved sex before (SA) but now its just deeper and meaningful rather than fulfilling a sexual need. Its more connected, more intense and SO much better than before... Keep it yummy in the bed room bandsters!

    Anyhoo......200 it is..I better see 199 tomorrow!!

My surgeon and dietician both said that I can drink as much as I want before and after a meal. As long as it has been 60 seconds since my last bite. It should take 60 seconds for a bite of food to pass through the band from your pouch to your stomach and send the satiety signals to your brain. And drinking Water will not flush the food from your stomach--there is the pyloric sphincter between your stomach and your intestines. It's all anatomy.

Thank you guys your comments.......it really made me look at some thing differently. @runningscared - obviously you don't have any children. She is definitely in charge of her health. I'm just saying I want to be here for her as a support system like everyone should have and I can't do that right now if I don't have it together. I think you read too much into comments.

Wow, everyone is in a different place as far as what motivates you. Getting the band does not eliminate your mental struggles with over eating and it does not mean that you no longer like Snacks and unhealthy things. I think it takes courage to come on here and say you are struggling. I think everyone struggles from time to time, the key is knowing your struggles and figuring out a way to conquer them. If everyone was perfect, none of us would have needed surgery. I am only 5 days post op and have been overweight all my life. I have been successful on diets before and swore that was the time things were going to be different, but here I am. So I am highly motivated, but know there are days I will struggle. If some are not struggling and can say you are perfect, I commend you, but many of us will have struggles. Struggle does no equal lack of success, so keep pressing on.

I was unfilled for nine months while I had chemo. It was hard work but I didnt gain. I ran and went to the gym (rpm and bodypump) like normal during treatment, yeah I was pretty run down but I had to do it! I couldnt let myself gain!
If I can do that through two surgeries, radiation and chemo and keep the weight gain away for nine months you CAN do this!

I think it's pretty normal. Maybe she has the feeling she has to make up for lost time or something. Imagine feeling bad about yourself and fat all your life and then , BAM, weight is off and esteem is new! Be happy for your friend and tell her in a nice and understanding way if she goes over the top too much.

My closets are bursting, as I am at goal and now wearing things a lot longer than before. Good thing I have an understanding husband, My own grandson, says to not loose all my fluff, as he wants ot be able to cuddle it!! Karen

Passionatehrt reacted to Califdreamer in Why Would't The Band Work?
I agree with all the above. Mostly journaling as you can actually see what you are eating. I eat more now than before the band and I am losing weight! The difference is I more aware of what I eat and more focused on why I eat. These are issues I know I have to deal with for the band to 'work'. I see it like this...the band is a tool. Whether I use it correctly or not is up to me and me alone. I am responsible for what and how much food I place in my mouth. As long as there are no complications, this must work.
Was I scared? Oh yes! Nervous? Absolutely. Desperate? Of course. But I knew it was time. Was I forced into this? Nope. In fact when I was in the pre op room taking all my vitals and such, I knew I could still back out. As I walked into the operating room, I knew I could have walked right out too. Then as I lay on the table, my doctor must have seen my expression and asked me if I wanted to stop it all and I said no. But I knew that if I wanted to I could and that relaxed me so much. The next few days after the surgery and each little pain, I would think to myself...What the heck did I do to myself? I researched this so long and even saw some of the surgeries on youtube, All in all, I wish I had done this years ago! Just give yourself as much time as you can to heal and take it one day at a time. I look back at my old life and it seems so funny. It's like it's not really your life at all. It does make me cringe to be honest, on how destructive it really was. I hope and pray I never ever return to that type of so called existance again! Good luck and take care.

I loved closet shopping when I was in the weightloss phase!!! It feels so great to fit in those smaller things I had grown out of.
Here's a tip: Try things on often. Don't just hold them up and think they will not fit. Your brain sometimes has not caught up with the size changes. Like elcee, some things were too big by the time I tried them. I shrunk right past that size and didn't get to wear some things I had been looking forward to.

HI gang....Like most of you out there I am learning to embracing the high Protein, low cab diet that my surgeon has recommended. In the process I have found a few foods out there that have really helped me along the way. It wasn't untill adding several of you bandasters to my fitness pal that I was able to see what other people are eating and you have secret favorites too. Several products have become my daily staples others are great when you are in a hurry. I wanted to share a few with you and hope that some of you will do the same.

Restriction is not meant to be painful! I'm grad you got a little unfil. You can modify this during your post fill but below is my go to Breakfast you can thin it out with milk for now since it is pretty dense.
Chobani fruited yogurt (you can use a hand blender to mince the fruit) 150 cal 14 g Protein
1/2 scoop vanilla whey isolate Protein powder 50 cal, 10 g Protein
    benefiber
So for about 200 cals you get about 24 g of protein
I am on solids so I add some walnuts (which are a good fat and have protein)
about 1/3 cup high protein Kashie Go Lean (adds more protein
Adding the above about another 150 cals but also some good protein being added.

Don't give up! It is hard. But it is worth it. I have had a very rough time. I was banded in June 2005. I lost 55lbs the first yr. Then had a panic attack because People started saying I was looking good. Gained some back. Then life got really crazy.Needless to say it has been a long journey. I'm still not at my goal. In fact in the last year I have broken my ankle and have gained most of my weight back. I feel like I am starting over, but at least I can start over. I haven't had a fill in four years so may 29th I'm getting filled back up and staring over.
I have a hard time with Protein too Cliff bars are by far my favorite. meat gets stuck but chips go down. I so know how you feel. When I did have a good fill I couldn't eat at night either. Someone on here said to me "why do you have to eat dinner? " What a thought! ummmm I don't, I guess. So I just fixed myself a protine drink and sat down with my family. I have eight children an a husband so I didn't want to miss out on dinner. It worked pretty good.
The thing is we have to make the band work for us. We do have to change the way we think about food and the habits we have. That is what it is all about. I thinks so many of us think the lbs will just melt off once we have the band. But the band is only as good as we are. It is just a tool to help. I haven't taken advantage of mine latley, but I know it will work. hang in there an together we will do it! your new friend Amy

    Heather,
I was banded back in November and no one pointed out the obvious one thing you pointed out. Hope I didn't harm anything because I wasn't an A+ student the first 30 days. All seems to be well now but seems like so many valuable insights come from this site. So many Dr's and staff are oblivious to important information that could make this journey so much easier.

I didn't read her post and scoff. I read her post this morning and realized that my first fill was actually too tight, so I went back to the doctor to get unfilled... As someone one month out after surgery, I'm not on this board to look for rainbows and unicorns. I'm looking for information, and I absolutely want to read posts like hers so I can learn from her experience.
I appreciated her post. And I also appreciated yours, and love hearing that you've had a great experience... I can't speak for everyone here, but I do realize that her opinion of the surgery, like yours, is based on her experience and hers alone... Some people have good experiences. Some have bad. This isn't religion, so I don't see any reason to be dogmatic. There's room for everyone to have, and share, their point of view.

I am one that does not count calories, or worry about portion sizes.
If the band restricts what and how much I can eat at any one sitiing, then it is not rocket science to be able to pick the proper foods to eat. IMO.
I asked the staff at my Surgeons office once why did they make me go through all that "Dieting" protocol in the beginning if they knew the band would take control, and they said I would be surprised just how many people do not have even the basic understanding of food groups, nutritional values, and the difference between good and bad food choices.
So they have to put everybody through the regime to ensure everyone gets a good education right from the get go, for total success later on.
It's all part of the total paackage.
