1. I too have been drining faster than I was told to. My fill is not until the end of March, so I better get my act together! Still hungry, in both ways, Every morning I tell myself that I can do this, then later start to feel the resolve slip away. Come on Lee, you gotta make this work!
2. I too have had the pain under the left ribs, and in the left shoulder. I was put back on my pain meds, which seems to help. Today, 1 week and two days after surgery, is the first day I have not had the pain. I asked my doctor about it today, and he felt that gas or trapped air only hurts for a day or two, but it may be some drainage that is irritating the phrenic nerve. I gained 10 lbs. after my choley. in November. I was told it was all of the IV fluids I had gotten.
3. I am glad you are giving it another try. I keep telling myself that we put too much into this to give up. I am constantly worried that I will do the wrong things and not lose weight. This is no magic pill, and I am really trying to keep that in mind, even though I am hungry! Good luck to you with a different doctor and therapist.
4. I know, I am hungry too. Had my first post op appt. today, and have been increased to puree's. Now, I feel I could eat anything. I won't have my first fill until the end of March. I am really worried about weight gain now.
5. Hmmmm....Kirstie Alley and Anna Nicole. Never thought about that. Makes me wonder. Oh yeah, you know who else I now wonder about? Have you ever watched Reba? One of the co-stars; Mellisa Peterman, who plays Barbara Jean, left the season heavy, and came back very lean. I wonder if she had any surgery?
6. I am glad someone asked what NSV meant! I have lots to learn. That is great, sometimes better than the scale itself, good for you.
7. That's interesting. I too believe I am more aware of it now, and also of the obesity problem that many people face. Glad I had it done.
8. Good Luck to you! You will have to let us know how you are doing!
9. So, some folks do stay in overnight, huh? And the other wow, is: that is cool that you feel good enough to be in the computer, and wow, that you have internet in your hospital room! How cool. Good luck, enjoy the rest!
10. Hey Mike, You sure are right about that! And that is what we were facing if we kept at this pace. My BMI was 31.5 right before surgery, so I was worried I might not pass, but I did. Hubby is about your height; 6'2", and was facing a few more health issues, so I don't want to scare him off, with any probems I have! He knows that everyone reacts differently to surgeries, but he has been watching me waging war the past few days with terrible pains in my left ribs radiating into the shoulder. I was hoping to stay off the pain meds, but oh well, this too shall pass! Oh yeah, and the constant hunger! I hope I can get over that eventually. Good luck to you, I saw that you had your surgery the day after mine, and are already back to work! My job is very physical, and I could not imagine even trying to work yet.
11. I was banded last week, and my husband is in the 6 month process now. He is doing it along with a co-worker. The only problem with him following me, is that he and his co-worker are watching any problems I have and are worrying that the same things could happen to them!~
12. Congratulations on getting your surgery date, that is half the battle. I am still looking for great liquid foods. My problem is that I get tired of them so quickly. I looked at some of the fancier soups that are creamy. There are many good ideas and recipes here if you look around. Good luck!
13. Hi and welcome. Go over the many posts here that contain many of the answers you are looking for. Also remember that not all people have the same problems if any problems at all. Good luck to you.
14. Welcome to you! I hope al of your problems will be resolved in the easiest manner. There are other posts here that pertain to port turning. You may want to look at them.
15. I am glad you were finally approved. It was worrisome for me too, and I was not sure I was going to surgery until the day before. I was banded last week, and am hoping it was one of the best decisions I ever made! I too had to give up Diet Coke, and really do miss it!
16. My port is on the right side.........why? I do not know, did not even realize that most have it on the left side. So good luck, see no reason not to put it in the right side!
17. Hi, and welcome. I am new too, was banded on the 14th. Good luck to you, and yes, it was quite a decision, one that I am glad that I made. Hopefullly you will be glad too!
18. First welcome to you, I am new here too, was banded on the 14th. Oh Wow, you are describing my pain, too! It is caused by either gas or air from the surgery, and is rubbing against the nerve that runs up into your neck. It is very painful. Taking a breath, moving, etc. makes the pain worse. I finally called the nurse at my surgeon's office, last night, (who had given me a number to call anytime), and she confirmed the pain. Others here have had it too. At least she understood, and told me to get back on the pain meds, and they will also renew my prescription for the meds. If you still have pain meds, maybe they may work. A heating pad gave me some minimal relief last night. I am sorry your doctor is being ignorant. Everyone here knows what it is about, as I am sure you will hear and read more about it. Good luck to you.
19. I am in the same boat as you! Been trying hard. My problem is that I begin to hate the liquids soon after I hate them. I can not even look at jello, broth, puddings, etc. I am at this point searching the forum looking for new ideas, and did find some as in the Campbells selects, and a few other things. Right now I am having such severe left shoulder and pain under the left rib cage, that for once food is the last tihing on my mind!
20. Let me try that link again.......... http://www.obesitylapbandsurgery.com/tecmain.html
21. I found this site while searching various lap band sites, Even though I am in the health care profession, I found this to be disturbing to think that I was possibly splayed on an OR table in this position! I did not understand all of the technical jargon, but it is interesting if you really want to see what is done in a diagram type view.........:paranoid. Here is the link: click on lap band technique. http://www.obesitylapbandsurgery.com/tecmain.html
22. Thanks Barbara, I need to hear that! I am greatful for all of your thoughts and advice.
23. Hi Rosie, Boy, you have just described me! I hate the liquid diet, and although the full liquids are somewhat better than clears, I still hate it. I have been hungry since my first post op day, and I have never noticed that I was full after sipping quite a bit. I still am hungry, and have cheated with a very soft egg, one day, some Healthy Request noodle soup, with very few noodles in it, and one bite of a hot dog. Afterwards I feel guilty, but that doesn't help any. I then become afraid that I will have slippage, erosion, whatever, and feel more guilty. I told myself today that I would behave, but it is early yet. Good luck to you. We are lucky that this group here understands, and is willing to help and support us!
24. Boy, do I understand what you all are saying! I have run into those people too, how self righteous can someone be? There are a few in my doctor's office, too. My nutrionist, even though she was super slim, was at least encouraging. Although she did tell me to quit Diet Coke. I was floored with that one, and really feeling sorry for myself. She went on to tell me that Diet Coke, among other things has proven to be relavent in osteoprosis in women. I had heard that too, so before surgery I really cut back, and of course have not had any since surgery.
25. All of that makes much more sense than what I had learned so far. Thanks so much for your help, I was so afraid I would not be able to figure it out. I find if I understand it, I am more able to follow the rules!
