What Do You Tell The Nosey Peopke At Work?
Wow, wasn't that a crappy thing to relate to our topic. I think the two are unrelated and anyone who reads my blog would know I'm far from negative nelly. But when it comes to my "privacy" I take that very seriously. My children, husband, mother, best friends, and sister are all that deserve to know. And I also feel that if someone wants to keep this journey private or "secret" that there are many different circumstances and dynamics people are faced with and unless you understand the entire picture and not assume one size fits all. I feel it is inappropriate to use such a scare tactic to have others be and see as you do and what you feel we all should be. I know for a fact I'm not going to be struck down by lightening or rather an icu because I didn't want to include my selfish, mean spirited, negative cousins or my a hole brother in my journey to save my life. Including more toxic people into my freedom is insane. Isn't the deep seeded point in this thread about nosey people, how others perceive or react to our decisions. Just because im private doesn't mean I'm not proud. One should feel safe to express thief real life concerns including not so ideal situations and not so ideal coworkers or not so ideal family members without feeling judged in the only place we should be understood.

I forgot to mention my wonderful husband my biggest supporter and friend. He loves me no matter what I choose.

What Do You Tell The Nosey Peopke At Work?
This has been hard for me too. I am not telling all of my family. My mother and my sister know. My entire family is obese. I see all of them on this lifelong yoyo diet. Losing . Gaining, losing, gaining more. My brother land himself in er with throughthe roof high blood pressure and heart problems, my dad diabetic with lung disease and on o2. He doesn't have a lot of time left. However, I know my family very well and they all like to talk behind each others back. I already know they will dissaprove and criticize me for taking the "easy" way out. Well, I have doing it the hard way for 20 years and I can barely walk every morning, my blood pressure averages 180/120 when miss a pill, I can tell I'm only a few years from being diabetic, I have ovarian cysts, and problems with my periods. I have 4 children ranging in ages 16 months to 20 years old. I don't want to die in my 60's like my dad is doing. I only told my mother because I knew she wouldn't say anything and as my mom she needs to know, but just today she said... You will probably feel so much better after you lose the weight, but I think you can do it on your own without this surgery, but you are already going through with it anyway. So it was a half supportive half unsupportive comment. Made me wonder if I should have just kept it to myself. It's har because this is the reaction from my obese family members, it would be 10 times worse if they all knew. My sister and I discussed it and we both feel they would resent me on many levels. So, I live out of state and all I have told them is I am having stomach troubles and seeing doctors for severe reflux and health conditions, my knees, etc and that I am going to a nut and a medical weight loss program. So that when they all see me in 6 months it won't be a huge shock. It's not that I'm hiding it, it's just I know why I am doing this. This is for me, and my children. I know I am making the best choice for myself. I am a nurse, and I did work in a nursing home, they are right not many 80 year old obese people there, sadly the ones I took care of morbidly obese were only in there 50 s and 60's and not doing well and needed help just to do activities of daily living and self care. That is not going to be me. So that is my reason for only including the people in my life I know support me. I don't feel the need to justify my choice to anyone else.

Leak 4Ever?!
I have to admit, still being in the pre- op process this is kind of freaking me out. Can any of you fill me in on where you had your procedure? I really want to do this for a better quality of life, but I'm feeling scared after reading the two bad outcomes. Is it just me? Or isit normal to freak out after reading this thread?

Leak 4Ever?!

Left Shoulder Pain
I can't help but ask. I read a lot of the threads to prepare myself . So I know what to expect when my day comes. I have heard a lot about the gas pains. However, this is the first I heard of drains? Does everyone get a drain? How many days is it in? Where is coming out of exactly? Do you go home with it? If any of you can explain this part to me, I would appreciate it.

Obsessed :/
Yep, me too! Congrats, it IS exciting!

Numbness In Right Leg And Right Hand
Call your doctor to be safe, you really don't want to mess around with numbness on one side of the body. Just incase it is something more serious (throwing clots, etc) Just call and get checked out especially if this is a new symptom. Better safe than sorry.

First Time Here.
I can relate to a lot of what you are talking about. I think the waiting right now is the hardest part. I just want to start the new me already. Actually, you will find coming here and preparing yourself for the surgery and post-op you begin to change before the surgery. I have really been doing a lot of thinking and trying to change my behaviors. It's like a light switch is finally turning on for me. Good luck. My date is May 14th, only one month away now! woohooo!

Energy Eater!
I struggle with fatigue. I have been one of those eaters that gets caught up in that carbohydrate cycle to keep me going (inevitably to be defeated in the end) I was wondering if anyone else out there struggles with this. I have a very busy life, so I have a right to be tired. I'm on my feet just about all day, and I have been trying to prepare myself for this surgery with the smaller portions, chewing, drinking a lot of water, yadda, yadda, but I am finding that when I cave in to the food for reasons to do with my energy level. I just give into that quick fix of sugar energy to keep me going. I also wonder if anyone out there that had similar eating patterns had better success after surgery when they had more stamina and energy (Which is what I hear you have more of as the weight starts to come off). The day is approaching and I am feeling a little disappointed in myself because I lack the self control when I feel like I'm going to collapse and I have the kids to take care of, dinner to get ready, baths, cleaning up the house, my work, etc. Does it get easier post sleeve?

Not So Nice Rack!
April 10, 2012 (TMI warning for some of you guys out there) Another day waking up in pain. My ankles, my knees, my hips, my back, my shoulders, and my neck.... I am still struggling with the lack of Advil in my regimen. I love to play with my little daughter. However, she is a toddler and very active. Her favorite things to do DAILY are dance, twirl, jump, bounce, etc to music. I have to say I cannot wait to be rid of all my pain. In an attempt to keep up with her and not disappoint her, I force myself to do this with her daily, even knowing what the repercussions will be to my joints. Not to mention, when my daughter wants to jump and bounce to her favorite song everyday, I just about take myself out with my boobs! The sheer physics of it all is kind of funny actually I go up, and the velocity of my boobs seem to continue to accelerate as they head toward the sky (or rather my face) like two melons being launched out of a sling shot. The funny part is you are already on your way back down as your boobs lift further, then they drop at the rate of gravity (9.81 m/s2) VERY quickly after. There is nothing like the jerking halt of what feels like two giant bowling balls tied to a string around your neck being dropped off the edge of a building. I know I am not the only one who knows this feeling. This isn't just with jumping, or bouncing, this is also with running. Even in situations you would never dream of.... Once as I sat in a friends speedboat going over the choppiest of waters. Yep, that sure did make for some entertainment for a good 30 minutes as I did everything I could to keep these puppies under control. It did give some good laughs though. Another funny boob story, I took my son to an arcade for the day (little mom and son time) He wanted to play this virtual roller coaster, so I get on, lean back and the entire ride starts to move with the movie screen. Well, I have to say, laying on your back with your breasts jerking around in just about 360 degree turns is not a pleasant experience. My point is, I can't wait to get rid of these knockers! They are in my way; they make my back hurt, my shoulders hurt, and my neck hurt. I want little itty-bitty boobies with a cute lacy bra. I would like to work out in a sports bra without having the enormous uniboob that is oh so stylish. I have no doubt when I take all this weight off that is pounding down on my joints I will feel better and I can continue to play with my very active daughter pain free. Ooooooooh the day can't come soon enough.

Endoscopy
I know you previously asked about if you can go to work after. Did you have someone to drive you? The post above said that she saw one person having to stay awake because she ddin't have a ride? I just don't understand why they didn't put you under??

Endoscopy
That is terrible! Did you complain after? That should not have been the experience. I'm so sorry. I would say something to your doctor.

"surgery Angels"
I'm 38 years old. 5' 4" and I am 217 pounds (I've already lost 10 now from 227). I had to buy a new pair of pants for work and it was a size 20 with tops in the 1x because of my boobs, stomach, and back are so large. I also refuse to get any larger because my entire family is huge with so many health problems. My father is not going to live much longer due to his health conditions right now and he is only 64. My mother is having heart trouble now at only 64. I have 4 children ranging from 19 to 16 months and I want to be running around with them when I am 64 and playing and picking up my grandkids. I want to see my only daughter get married and become a mother herself. My surgery date is on May 14th. It is all going very fast but would love to have a mentor with similar starting point and goal as I do.

Endoscopy
No problem, I totally understand. I had so much anxiety going into it. I wish i would have posted on here about it first. It's so easy. Good luck and write later and let me know how it went for you.

Endoscopy
It is just a bacteria that can cause ulcers. They just want to know what you have going on so they can predict what you will need if any treatment
