  1. just fantastic... way to go . im in your foot steps.. lol.
  2. oh, please dont let me put you off going.. if you are the sort of person who recovers quickly from surgeries and things like that you could be just great. i know of others who have managed way more than i would have been able to. So your parents dont know either? or your sister?? im the same. the only person in my family who knows is my hubbie, and i did tell our youngest daughter as well. How sad that you cant share with your mum and sister when you know how much the surgery would help them. Perhaps later on when you have lost the weight and you are a walking testimony to it all?? Again.. more thoughts from me.... how long after surgery would you want to travel to your parents place??you did say. have you thought about how you are going to explain not being able to eat properly while there?? it just occured to me. I hope it all works out well for you. Let me know what you do decide to do in the end.
  3. will do... i hope that i can eat meat in the long run. i dont want to be come vegetarian.lol
  4. i havent had issues with my port feeling numb but ive certainly experienced it with other surgeries. There must be nerves that are affected. im sure it will settle for you though.. my knees have areas where there is no feeling. That was knee replacement though and entirely different.
  5. i wouldnt be doing it. But, you could be entirely different to me. i only know that travel in a car was really uncomfortable for me... very much so and it was with me until a month post op.
  6. I have issues with meat and fish. Last night ,for the umptieth time i had difficulties. i chewed a small piece of chicken ... it was moist. Like before i had awful pain and the feeling that i wanted to burp it all back up but so far ive never salivated or had the slime. Im so glad its not got that far. I cooked some lamb chops in the slow cooker two days ago, couldnt eat them either so this morning ive minced the meat down and added it to a lot more liquid. A soup base, ive also added chick peas and some spices as well. it seems that im not able to eat meat yet... not as i would like to. i havent had a fill yet. i have my first fill on the 7th may
  7. ...and boy oh boy... can i identify with you on this one. My hubbie doesnt cook but i have to prepare good meals for him twice a day. its got to the point where im having my meal first. then its not quite so bad. now im eating more i can sit with him but he wolfes his food down so quickly that its unsettling. he is up and cleaning up while im still eating. bad manners to say the least and a real eye opener for me. I dont know what to suggest... perhaps have something before he starts to prepare tea?? its not quite so bad then. i felt the same way... i was angry, frustrated, all the same issues that you have had. Mind you, im getting more used to it now ... its nearly 7 weeks. i think that it does even out a bit. its all very new to you right now. Sorry i didnt have a lot of things you could try.. lol.. but i did have something to eat before hand and it helped me through some mealtimes.
  8. hi pink dahlia.. i do hope that im like you eventually. im very sensitive for someone who hasnt got any fill in yet. i havent had much meat yet because of the bad experiences ive had. im trying to make it up with having lots of chick peas, beans etc. i really do enjoy them which is great. you are lucky that your hubbie is a good cook and diabetic aware... i wish my hubbie was . he is useless in the kitchen . ive spoiled him over the years. im going to have a long talk with my dr on the 7th. thats my first fill. one thing. i was able to have a couple of very small cheddar biscuits which was lovely. i really do enjoy them. i know that they arent good for weight loss but it was great to taste them again.

    whats happened??...
  10. well... even that on eBay has been cancelled... .its like some sort of conspiracy.. sheesshhhhh. im sick of looking for the stuff.
  11. thats fantastic. way to go.
  12. im post op 7 weeks and im not aware of it at all. .. post surgery for the week to ten days out it was a bit sore.. i had a lot of bruising on the site. i cant feel my port with my fingers. Actually, it doesnt register as a foreign object in the body at all. But, ive had two knee replacements and they dont make their presence felt either. It all becomes a natural part of the body after a week or two. If you get any soreness it will be from the muscle as the port is put into the muscle. I wouldnt even know i had one.
  13. Ive had three nerve denevations over the years in my lumbar spine. ive got arthritis in my pelvis as well so before lapband i was a mess with my hips lockin and a lot of back pain. ive been banded now about 7 weeks... 7 weeks yesterday and ive lost 17 lbs in weight so far. as a result the pain has gone, the hips are normal so far. im not sure how i will be doing heavier work like gardening.. we will see. im not taking any pain killers at all. no arthritis meds either.
  14. im finding that i really do like beans now. im having lentils, chick peas, baked beans... and i know that there is way more i can buy, at the moment im having them. im enjoying them .
  15. how long have you been banded.. ?? sorry, ive forgotten. so you dont rely to much on meat for protein?? im starting to wonder if i can. i put some lamb chops in a slow cooker for about 6 hours. they were cooked slowly and the meat was tender... but when i ate one mouthful it got stuck. i chewed like there was no tomorrow.. lol. but it still got stuck. it took about 15 minutes to clear. it put me right off eating my tea. i just made a protein shake. So.. now ive discovered that fish poached, lamb slow cooked, dont go down well with me. i know im not six weeks banded yet. maybe it will change?/ i hope so. i like my meat. How does the jerky go?? i would have thought it would be very tough and stringy??
  16. thats great news and you have been really consistent with your walking which is great. im hoping to lose 50 lbs in the next six months.i was like you after waking from the op. i was awake all night deep breathing. i know that i dont breath enough after surgery and my oxygen sats get very low so i stayed awake and purposely did my breathing all night.. lol.. it took a lot out of me but it was well worth it. i nearly stop breathing when im coming out of anaesthesia.
  17. i havent been given any instructions as to how much protein etc etc i should be having but i know that i battle... mainly with just the fluids. i never drank enough before and now its a bigger issue.regarding the gas pain.... i still have it in my left shoulder. its a very sensitive guide telling me when im hungry, and when ive had enough. i dont mind that at all now. i know if the pain comes back then theres something i need to be aware of. im post op nearly 7 weeks now. ive started on solids. just. MInd you, even though ive got no fill in i have to be very careful with meat and fish. i need to chew a very small mouthful about fifty times before i can get it down. then i have to wait at least 25-30 seconds before another mouthful. other foods arent quite as bad.
  18. would you believe ive tried to get it here in australia and cant get it in my state?? grr... at the moment im ''bidding for a bottle of it'' on eBay... have you ever heard of anything so rediculous in all your life? ive complained in the chemist shops here that the good old remedies are being taken off the shelves and the more expensive drugs that make more money for the drug cartels are replacing it. We always had milk of magnesia in our house when i was growing up.
  19. its great that you were able to get off the pain meds. im allergic to some of them as well... particularly morphine. you shouldnt need to take them for long. i think i was only on them for 36 hours if i remember. talking about bowels... im nearly 7 weeks out and im still having some issues. Lets hope this all sorts itself soon. good luck with it all.
  20. thats wonderful news. its so encouraging to hear that . ive got about 79 lbs to go.
  21. maybe a little of both?? are you waiting between sips?? im counting between mine, im nearly six weeks post op. i find that i get a pain in my chest as well if i drink too quickly.. i dont have any fill yet.
  22. i cooked some perch when i was three weeks post op... it was poached and looked soft but when i tried to swallow it i came the closest to choking i ever want to come to. not nice. when i cook more i will have it in white sauce.... and not as dry.
  23. rest up as much as you can and try not to stress over it.. everyone has different experiences but what you describe is pretty normal. i had the same when i was done. it will pass... sooner than you think. i know its hard but each day will bring more relief. hang in there . Keep up your meds, drink your water and the other liquids and think of the future. its a new beginning for you... a really good one. (( hugs ))
  24. Shannon.... what wonderful news... some husbands were behind the door when compassion was given out, thats for sure. i know, i married one. lol.
