Confused About Carbs
I am about 5 weeks out and I haven't really started to worry about carbs yet. At first you can only get in so much and trust me, as long as your motto is protien first you won't be able to get much carbs in lol. Im on soft foods 1 1/2 eggs or 2 oz. of tilapia or any kind of protien make me SO full. I can't even think about carbs LOL.

Why Did You Choose Sleeve Vs Gastric Bypass?
I chose the sleeve because it made the most sense to me. Originally I was researching bypass, but switched to the sleeve. I was VERY uncomfortable with how the bypass reroutes your intestines, leaves a remnant stomach that CANNOT be endoscopied (if there is cancer or an ulcer in there they wouldn't know until it was too late), or the fact that you don't absorb the nutrients from everything you eat (and you can have so little). The malapsorbtion hurts more than it helps in my point of view and it was very scary to me. Once I decided on the sleeve it was like I was at peace with the decision and my stress level dramatically dropped. The sleeve was one of the best decisions I have made for myself.

Teeth And Gums Feel Weird
I had the same problem. Have you been taking your calcium? I switched to the caltrate chewables and it went away. Maybe try that?

Craving Pizza, Surgery Tuesday. Help!
I had a two week liquid diet. For the most part I stuck to my guns but I did cheat a few times. Sometimes I got so crazy hungry I would have a salad for dinner and it was HEAVEN...I also went to sonic and brunch the Sunday before sugery (my surg was on a thurs)..I had NO problems. My advice is to try as hard as you can but don't feel bad for a cheat or two. We are all human and there is a reason we are where we are. Our normal sized stomach screaming 'FEED ME!!' Can be REALLY overwhelming sometimes.

Old Guilt Creeping Up On Me
I am about a month out, eating pretty much anything I would want. I stay away from carbs and am completely on track with my fluids, Vitamins, bowel movements......lol but I digress. I feel like I eat ALL day. I kinda do (every 3 hours or so)...but I find my brain making me feel so guilty like I am eating too much but I'm barely getting in 700 cals. I guess it still needs time to wrap itself around the fact that so little makes me SO full. Anyone else feel that stupid guilt for no reason??

Does Anyone Have Any Regrets?
Sometimes I regret not being able to sooth myself with stuffing myself with food, but that is just the addict in me talking. I am happy I made the decision. It was hard, it still is, but it gets better everyday. Im guessing I will feel a WHOLE lot better once I make it to my goal weight.

How Did You Progress Through The Food Phases?
Lol well I guess its true that every surgeon's plan is different. My mushie phase is kind of the soft food stage. I can have eggs and pureed food. I think maybe I am being too arrogant because everything has gone so well so far. I heal very fast and I kinda feel normal already. I need to get that together, but heres to hoping everything stays as good as it has been.

How Did You Progress Through The Food Phases?
Whew! First day back at work! Kinda pooped already LOL its been 11 days since surgery and I am down 20lbs. (24lbs. including pre-op). Its been really hard getting in all my Protein because nothing seems to sit right, and I have tried A LOT of different things. What will really make me happy is when I can finally go to real food. I was started on full liquids in the hospital (yogurt, pudding, oatmeal, cream of wheat, cream based Soups (strained) and stuff like that). Thursday I should be able to start mushies, I am so excited! LOL What I am really curious about is when do mushies end..and solid foods start? I have a transition class in April. I am suppose to go to the March (once a month) but I unfortunately have to work. Im just curious how each of you past the mushie phase has progressed. I have had a really fast and fortunate recovery because I have had absolutely no problems (Thank you baby Jesus). I have no hunger, I just want to be healthy.

Just Came Out Of Recovery!
The best advice I can give you is when your getting out of your bed get ur butt to the farthest corner of where the bed folds and sit the bed all the way up. Support your belly. It hurts at first (bad) but it gets better day by day. I am 6 days out and can finally sit up without crazy pain. I didn't really have the gas pains that everyone talks about. Good luck to you!

Hydration Tips?
Thanks so much. I'm trying as hard as I can so I hope I can gradually get in everything that I need. I drank about half of a protein shake made with lactose free milk. I guess tomorrow is a new day and I need to figure out things that will work for me.

Hydration Tips?
I am on a full liquid diet, does every liquid I have count towards my Fluid oz goal? Today is my first full day and I have to say I underestimated how hard it would be to get everything in. I need some help. Even with hot tea and strained Soup today I have only got about 45 oz of liquid and only 20 oz of that was Water.

Home And Doing Well!
I cannot stress how great Dr. Averbach is. He came to check on me personally EVERYDAY and the staff at St. Agnes took very good care of me. I'm home! Actually got home yesterday just have been trying to settle in. I'm on full liquids for two weeks which is ok cuz three or four sips of Soup and I'm full. I'm sipping my Water but it is def the hardest part because it just doesn't feel the same so I am flavoring it with a little lemon or crystal light. Getting in and out of the bed has been a challenge but I have figured out the least painful way. The leak test was disgusting! LOL worst stuff I have ever tasted but I had no leak so that was awesome. They did it Friday morning so I went all day thurs without anything passing my lips but the glycerine lemon swabs saved the day. Still had dragon breath lol but they def helped me a lot. I still have the drain in to monitor things which is a weird feeling but my doctor likes to be very careful, so I will do what I have to. Sorry to ramble! Pain meds are taking effect but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask! And I will answer as soon as I can.
