My Sleeve Is Saving Me
So I'm almost three weeks post-op. I'm in my hometown to visit my dad for the week. He has stage 4 cancer. We had to get him an ambulance to come to the house last night to get him to the ER. He is now in icu. Pre-sleeve me would be stuffing my face with all the food available at all of these restaurants in a 1 mile radius. I'm enjoying some KFC mashed potatoes instead. No more emotional eating for me thanks to my new sleeve. Sent from my iPhone using VST

Congrats, Soror! You look great!

Last Meal
MMMMM I love Famous Dave's. I didn't get to hit them up before my surgery. Anyhoo, my last dinner I went to Magianno's with one of my friends who is also in her phases of getting sleeved by her insurance. I had my favorite Lasagna and a margarita on the rocks. And I had a cookie for dessert. I was stuffed, I couldn't even finish my entre

Washington Dc Challenge At 2 Weeks Out
Hey so I don't feel as bad advancing to the mushy stage either. I am home in NC for a week, I brought my Nectar protein and have been drinking milk for breakfast, but yesterday I couldn't take anymore! I got some baked potato soup from panera and blended it in my mom's magic bullet. It was soooo good and I can tell I instantly had an increase in energy from the carbs. I had been feeling lethargic. I also too read other peoples' diets and they had mushies early on, so I didn't feel so bad trying it. I admit I did eat it a little too fast because I got that tightness in my chest for about a minute. I'm skipping my weigh-in this week as well since I'm home. I asked my friend would it be too OCD of me to bring my scale with me and she said yes Thanks for the update! Glad you enjoyed DC!

New Here! Just Want Wanted Your Thoughts!
Yes. I had the same doubts and fears that everyone else had. But I've lost 24 lbs which includes 10 during my pre-op diet. I have never lost like that before and I have been on every diet you can think of. The sleeve works! Sent from my iPhone using VST

Question About Premiere Shakes
Well I guess they are not really clumpy. I used to drink them out of a straw. But when I pour them into a cup it does not come out smooth and I can see little flakes. It grosses me out. Sent from my iPhone using VST

Question About Premiere Shakes
The shakes I was referring to are ready to drink from costco. They just were harder to tolerate for me post-op. I just settled on some nectar mixed with Water. Sent from my iPhone using VST

Why Can't I Do This On My Own?
Someone the other day posted an article called The Fat Trap. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/01/magazine/tara-parker-pope-fat-trap.html?pagewanted=all Very interesting.

Hiccups
\Wow this is to interesting. My nose was running uncontrollably yesterday. I had no idea it was a sign of fullness. I only had a few sips of broth though. Weird. I also get the hiccups, but it's just random at random times. Not when I'm eating. And it will only last about 2 minutes.

The Fat Trap: Is Vsg An Escape?
Thanks for posting this, I have never heard of this article either. I have struggled with my weight since childhood and always did diets with my mom, while she took water pills. I also wanted to know what was wrong with me and why I couldn't lose weight like a normal person. Hoping I had hypothyroidism or something as well. Like I needed a logical explanation! You would think that after the 4th time doing weight watchers, I would know it doesn't work for me, but I still signed up that 5th time. smh. So happy to be sleeved!

Week 2 - Weigh In And Musings
Good job on the weight loss! My scale keeps calling me like c'mon you know you want to weigh in. I'm waiting until tomorrow. I bought some Nectar yesterday because the protein shakes in milk kept making me nauseous. I can't wait until next Thursday. Mushies!!!

Question About Premiere Shakes
Thanks, that's a good idea. I will try thinning them out with milk. Adds more protein for a bonus

Question About Premiere Shakes
So I have the RTD shakes from costco. Pre-op they were a breeze to get down because I drank them through a straw. Now I'm post-op and I pour them in a cup. They are so thick and clumpy it grosses me out and I can't get them down. They have like these big white flakes in them. Is this normal or did I get a bad batch? Sent from my iPhone using VST

My Mother Is Supportive (Shocking), Dr Not So Much
Congrats! I too am with Kaiser and had a 38 bmi at the time. I went to Mexico 11 days ago. I didn't tell my pcp but will when I have him run my blood work after two months. I was very dissatisfied with them as far as trying to get approved and am going back to bcbs during open season. Sent from my iPhone using VST

I only had nausea the night of my surgery. I just started protein shakes (10 days post-op) yesterday and getting those down has made me VERY nauseous.

My Pcp Is Not Supportive At All & Made Me Worried Now!
Sorry you had to go through that. She sounds ignorant and uninformed. It's sad that doctors take the oath "do no harm" yet refuse to treat you if you have surgery by someone they don't know. I was sleeved by Dr. Kelly last Wednesday. He is an excellent surgeon! I hope you find a supportive PCP that is interested in your overall well being and health.

How Long Did Your Process Take?
Mexico was great! I was sleeved by Dr. Ramos Kelly a week ago today. I did alot of research on these and other boards and websites. If you need a defense for your husband, tell him that the surgeons in Mexico have been doing bariatric surgery longer than the ones in the US, specifically the sleeve. The surgeons in Mexico have done thousands, while the "experienced" ones here have done a few hundred. I'm not knocking US surgeons, I was just VERY confident in my choice of surgeon. Also there are several youtube videos of people that went to Mexico. Everyone raves about how the hospital care is better in Mexico. That was my first hospital stay so I really can't compare it, but I was pleased. I had no pain, just a little nausea. The morning after I just kept telling my friend I can't believe this is an outpatient surgery in the states. In choosing your surgeon, just make sure you look at experience and complication rates. Either way, you have to feel comfortable with your choice. It's already stressful enough going through the surgery, you at least want to be confident that you chose an experienced one. Good luck with whatever you decide.
