Dickens22 got a reaction from MinnesotaDreaming52 in Difficult question to ask.
The duodenal switch ( the sleeve + a intestinal bypass) does make smelly gas and bathroom problems if the person eats a lot of fat. I have know a few people with that surgery. The sleeve itself does not cause the same issues. I have had mine since 6/26 and no problems. I asked my doc before I had my surgery because I did not want those problems. He said it was the bypass part not the sleeve that was the cause.

Today is my 13th wedding anniversary and I went out to dinner with my hubby. I wore a new dress size 1x (down from 4x), wore my wedding rings (only recently fit me) and had a lovely time with my man who said I look 10 years younger! What a happy day. I was sleeved 6/25 and am down 40 lbs from surgery and a total of 85 since January. Lovin life! Just in case you wondered I ordered shrimp cocktail and had a few bites of my husbands filet mignon, delish!

    First I want to say
Wow this has been quite a journey so far!!!! Everything that had to be done to get where I am at today is beyond being worth it!!!
Second I want to thank my partner in crime Karen for telling me about this surgery to begin with. I would have never known about it or gone to have it done without her!!! Thank you Buttercup!!!
Third I want to thank my husband for supporting my decision even though he thought I didn't need to have it done. He even stood up and said something to my family when they were being turds about me having it done. Thank you Pookie!!!
So to finish up here, this is what has happened so far & what is not so far away!!
    Surgery date: 5/22/2013
    Height : 5ft. 6"
    Age: 39
    Start weight : 218

Only 3 pounds away from hitting 2 goals.
1st: hitting the 50 pound mark
2nd: hitting 168 ( the weight I was when I met my husband)
I also am only 36 pounds away from hitting my goal weight of 135!!!!!
Thank you everyone for being there even when I was whining & complaining!!!!

Thanks for the input! I am working out at night so that could be an issue. I am trying the Protein before bed and that is helping. I have been sleeping a little bit better.

Dickens22 got a reaction from MizzouGirl in Mindful Eating
That's one of my biggest fears that I would forget and take too big of a bite, not chewing properly! It's probably one really big reason I'll hold off on alcohol....potential for forgetfulness and hunger. Bad combination. As I have been feeling more normal it is easier to forget about "mindful eating". Thanks fot the reminder!

Yep The fluids they give you take a while to get rid of...just temporary.

I love Siggi's Orange and Ginger! Technically not Greek, but it's Icelandic Skyr, which is similar. It is just a touch of sweet. But I'm still not eating stuff that's even a little sweet so I've switched to their plain.

I believe when the doctors say to get 60 grams of Protein they mean when you get on your solid food schedule. It is very hard to get 60 grams right off the bat when your stomach is still swollen from surgery. I had trouble also with fluids and protein. Just make sure that anything you eat is high protein, if not, find something else! As for fluids, what saved me was sugar free popsicles! When I went for my 2 month appointment and told them I was not getting anywhere near the amount of fluids, that is what they recommended. It will get better. I am almost 6 months post op and I am loving my sleeve, but I remember one of my first posts that was very similar to yours! Good luck to you.

Hang in there, this is a tough road and it is helpful to have a forum to share your thoughts and experiences with. Don't worry about what people think or say, as the only thing that really matters is what you know to be your personal truth.

I was sleeved on March 14, 2012 at the age of 59. I am within 10 pounds of goal!
I was so worried that I was too old for all this, but "all this" has made me feel at least 20 years younger, if not more! I was so slow, out of breath, hot, tired and anxious. Now I zip around, never get out of breath, haven't broken a sweat in months and smile all the time! People are always commenting about the change they see in me.
I was so very lucky not to have any complications from the surgery. I was so worried that I would develop a distaste for food, that I would no longer enjoy cooking, that the lifestyle change might affect my wonderful marriage. None of that was true. I am able to eat almost anything I want, just in limited quantities of course, but those quantities are actually greater than I supposed. I only avoid very greasy foods, white soft bread, raw onions and lettuce.
I just put on the biggest Thanksgiving spread ever, for 19, and enjoyed every last minute of it.
And I just spent $3,700 on a complete new wardrobe, including undies, jammies, work clothes, casual clothes, coats, gloves, shoes and jewelry! That hurt the bank account but made quite a few big desposits in my self-esteem account!
My husband, sons, friends and coworkers have been so supportive, I truly love each of them for it.
Be aware that things could possibly go wrong, but be confident that they won't! This is the greatest thing I ever did for myself.
    Good luck to all!

Fluids are your number one priority. Instead of staring at a huge container of Water, set a goal of one ounce every 15 minutes while you are awake. I used a clock, a shot glass, and a 1 cup liquid measuring cup as a pitcher.
Try the Water at different temps: cold, lukewarm, and hot and see if one goes down easier. I did better with lukewarm. Add a splash of juice or try herbal tea. I like SleepyTime Tea.

sugar free popsicles saved my life! I don't know if it was helping with stomach swelling or what.. but I was able to eat those no problem. I was sleeved on 2/12. I'm surprised you're still having trouble with that. I'm eating soft Protein now.

Can't possibly be a stall. A stall is no movement of pounds or inches in over 4 weeks. Your fine. Relax and live your life.

    Dickens22 got a reaction from ca530 in 3rd day post op.....taking 4 hours to drink 11 ounces
My doc said to use a shot glass a have 1 ounce every ten minutes for 10 hours of the day. That would leave 14 hours for sleep and excercise or other activities. It really helped me not to get behind in my Water and shake drinking.

Dickens22 got a reaction from tashiepurple in Hey June 25 Sleevers
Hi my date was 6/26. I went back to work yesterday. I probably overdid it a bit after being gone for nearly 3 weeks. This morning was hard to get going at 5am. I don't have any real pain just tenderness and a little bit of indigestion. It was hard getting all my Water and Protein in at work and this morning was the first day the scale did not go down...so far I have lost 20 lbs. (not counting losing the 8 lbs I gained the fluids in the hospital) I had anxieties the first week but those seem to have passed. I am just trying to continuing eating, drinking, moving and resting...not skipping any of the steps

I agree! Drs are so fast at dishing out drugs for reasons unknown.. Except that the drug companies encourage them to do so. My surgeon doesn't put his patients on any PPI and I'm glad. I've had some reflux and luckily Zantac or tums are working for me.
America is so over medicated ... It's scary

Something like that happened to me. I was denied. I went in to my PCP and got weighed again and was approved and scheduled by end of the week. Your doc can dispute it easily.

Be proud of how far you've come, not just physically, but mentally as well - you were able to answer him, whereas you didn't in the past! Keep up the good work, you look great!
