SleeveDreamer got a reaction from Ldyvenus in Fathead Pizza/Crackers anyone?
This sounds goid. I also discovered on Instagram last night the Real Good pizza. The crust is parmesan and chicken and completely grain free. Low in carbs 4g for half of the small pizza and also half has 25g of protein! I just picked up a couple at Ralphs. All of the Kroger based stores are
supposed to sell them. Is the youtube called Skillet Pizza or what?

I wish scare tactics would not be used here when discussiing RNY. It is a perfectly safe option. As I said I have had both now, mainly because my acid was so out of control, i needed to prevent more damage to my esophagus to prevent esophagal cancer possibly down the road. When he started my bypass, he discovered a damaged spot on my esophagus that most likely would have ruptured in the near future and I would have been in deep doo doo. Luckily I have the best surgeon in California and he knew what to do to repair it before he continued with the bypass.
The recovery of this RNY is not one iota different than it was for my sleeve 5 1/2 years ago. The diets are the same, the incisions on your abdomen are the same. Of course the restriction is greater because the pouch is very small. I am not blaming anything on my sleeve. i had great success with it, however, had I realized it would not cure the bad acid reflux I already had, I would have chosen RNY at that time. Although I had about 75 pounds to lose, I did not have the surgery for weight loss. 2/3 of my stomach was over my diaphragm between my lungs headed for my heart. This was a result of a fundiplication surgery I had in 1999 to repair my stomach valve damaged by acid.
Many on the gastric bypass board here have chosen to have a revision from sleeve to RNY because of their severe acid. NO ONE is saying that the sleeve caused the acid. If you have severe acid reflux before the sleeve, the RNY is definitely a better option for you so that can be taken care of as well. This will prevent further acid damage to the esophagus down the road, this lreventing Barrett's Esophagus or cancer.
Some people just want opinions as to why others made their decisions. That does not mean one is the right way or the other is the right way. The doctor will make that decision based on the individual patient. Part of your intestine is NOT discarded with RNY. It is simply cut and attached to your new pouch. There is no difference than having 2/3 of your stomach cut off!
Please do not use scare tactics or such negativity here. WLS is a big enough decision in the first place. Some people will have complications with any surgery. Any surgery is a risk. As I said, I myself have had no complications, no pain, or any nausea with my RNY.
I have a great attitude when it comes to surgery. Never scared. That is part of the reason I recover so well with no issues. It will not do any good to scare people off here. They need to go into either of these surgeries with a positive attitude and be optimistic. We are here to help, not scare them to death. Enough of the negativity and statistics.

I use Premier Protien RTD from Wal Mart or costco. 30g each. Light and easy to drink and get down. Muscle Milk too sweet for me. I usually buy the vanilla Premier and add sugar free syrups to them. I love the caramel but they dont have it at Costco and they are much cheaper there. I can't stand any powdered and have tried them all. Too thick and dense abd just the consistency is yucky. Although I love the Click coffee Protein powder but it is not Decaf and need to be sure no caffeine for a year.

Don't forget that you may be gaining body mass. That will affect your actual scale numbers, but at the same time, your body fat % should also be going down, so that is fine and good for your metabolism.

    Hello,
I'm have bypass surgery on 9/18. I have been debating this with myself for sometime as to is I should purchase a scale. I do plan on taking my measurements before surgery also after to track my progress. The only time I weigh myself is at the doctors office. I have read so many post about people stressing over the number on the scale. I just want to be healthy and not focus on the number.
Anyway just asking people that don't own a scale why don't own and how are they tracking their progress?

I have had both and neither were really for weight loss, just to repair some things. i had the sleeve 5 1/2 years ago to move 2/3 of my stomach back down through my diaphragm without destroying my diaphragm. I have always had tons of acid reflux and that did not go away in fact it got severely worse in the past six months. My only option to finally get rid of this reflux once and for all was RNY. So I just had that on June 12. I am 4 1/2 weeks out now. Never had any pain or any nausea and am on soft foods for 12 more days before I go on regular food.
To me, the recovery for both is the same; at least it has been for me. The RNY has more restriction of course, but both surgeries require post op "learning how to eat again" food plans! I wish he would have done the RNY 5 1/2 years ago simply because of my acid reflux problem.

quit it. you are helping no one but yourself get over whatever insecurity you clearly have with your decision to get the sleeve. it's not a contest.

I had a sleeve 5 1/2 years ago and just had revision to RNY. I stayed away from carbonation for about the first four years. Then I really wanted some diet Squirt. I did buy some and drank one every once in awhile with no problems. I think if you wait awhile like I did and use in moderation it would be OK. Now I am post op from RNY and will have to start my waiting game again!

I am 4 1/2 weeks out. i have been having trouble eating 4 oz. per meal in. I had my post op yesterday and she said that was fine, not everyone can. She said if I can only eat 2 oz at a meal, then an hour or so later, eat about 2 oz more of Protein. I am drinking a 30 g Protein Shake in the morning. I am supposed to drink three 16.9 bottles of Water a day but can only get in two. She said you just have to work up to it. i noticed this week i am able to get a little more in at a meal, but if only 3 oz., I got some soft colby jack 3/4 oz packs of cheese at Walmart and I eat one of those. It will come naturallly and all of a sudden you will be able to. You must try to eat even if you don't feel hungry. I had a sleeve 5 1-2 years ago and went through the same thing, although the bypass has more of a restriction.

I had a sleeve 5 1/2 years ago because 2/3 of my stomach was up above my diaphragm between my lungs headed for my heart. He had to do a sleeve to get my stomach bachk through without destroying my diaphragm. Therefore, he could not apply the mesh normally put on to prevent another hiatal hernia because I had so many stitches in my diaphragm. So about six months ago I started getting terrible reflux. After a gi endoscopy, my hiatal hernia is back, but not much. But i do have a spot of Barretts on my esophagus but came back negative. I will be having the roux en y gastrojujenstoma on June 3 because he said at this point, this is the only this that will take care of this terrible reflux. I am almost 67. Never had any problems with the sleeve, lost 75 lbs., and have not gained any back.

I had the sleeve 5 1/2 years ago. Recently my acid was so bad it was literally taking over my body and me! The doctor said the only thing to fix it would be RNY. So I had bypass on June 12th. No acid whatsoever now because the part of the stomach that produces acid is no longer there. If you suffer from bad reflux before your sleeve, I would suggest talking with your doctor to see if RNY is not a better option for you. IMO there is no difference in post op or recovery. It seems like a lot of people on this forum have had sleeve revisions to RNY down the road because of bad acid.

I had a sleeve 5 1/2 years ago. Just had a revision to RNY on the 12th. I had terrible stomach acid to the point it was taking over my body! The sleeve will not prevent acid reflux since the partnof your stomach that produces acid is still there. My doctor suggested RNY because he said that is the only way Ito finally get rid if my reflux. If you do have a lot of acid before your procedure, you may want to talk to your doctor to see if RNY would be a better option for you now, rather than maybe revision down the road. congrats to your husband for his success!

I just had RNY on the 12th, I had VSG 5 1/2 years ago. Unfortunately the VSG does not help control GERD bcuase the part of your aromach that produces acid is still there. My acid had gotten so bad in the last 9 months, it was taking over my body 24 hours a day! My only was RNY to finally get rid of the acid! I am in my fourth week out and have not had any acid, although I do need to take antacid for 60 days post op to prevent ulcers where internal stitches are.
