  1. white breads( and white rice and white pasta )have a tendency to stick on me, but seem fine if they're toasted and chewed well. sourdough is fine mmmmmmm ! Brown wheat bread goes down much easier as does whole wheat pasta and brown rice. (Less stuff that gets gummy). You may have to experiment and chew really well to see what you can eat. After a fill you can have unexpected changes too.
  2. ctinch, you're awesome ! Congratulations and way to go !
  3. i have some yes and no's when it comes to bread, pasta, and rice. Toasted bread is fine ,especially wheat breads, i do fine with sourdough and a thin slice of well chewed white bread, and a bite or 2 of a doughnut. Brown breads, brown rice and whole wheat pasta are fine, (and yummy !) but i might have problems with anything white because it has a tendency to gum up more than whole wheat products. You may have to experiment to see what works for you, and what you can and cant eat can change after a fill. ( No more raw broccoli after my 6th fill, sigh............... I miss it.) Good luck !
  4. i find that the more protein i eat , the less i crave sweets. And i have a serious sweet tooth ! when i do need something sweet im just as happy with a low cal/low fat item. Skinny Cow or Weight Watchers ice cream is the best, or a piece or 2 of Weight watchers candy . Good luck !
  5. you will still be hungry until you start getting fills and get restriction. try to eat as healthy as possible, you need to follow your Drs rules for a reason. It gives your band time to heal . Theres plenty of time later for those foods , so dont give in now ! You can do it !
  6. ( sorry, i hit the send button) If you handle it this way , your supervisors will listen to your important words. If you go in yelling, bitching, or acting a drama queen thats all your supervisors will see, and will probably just blow you off to shut you up. (Nothing will get solved to YOUR satisfaction, and you'll just come across as whiny and unprofessional ) Good luck !!
  7. i think you have every right to be upset ! Who is she to be spreading around your personal medical info ? I would definetly stay on this, document EVERYTHING ! Every conversation you had with the floaters. time , date , place , witnesses . etc. You may need this info because if she talked about YOU, shes talked about OTHERS too. She has crossed some serious lines and i think she should be held accountable. But , HOW you handle this is going be the difference.Be professional, polite but firm, and stand your ground
  8. ok, I'll bite. What is a chocolate melting cake ? Sounds great !!!
  9. ive almost lost a bale of hay (50 lbs) , after that, i need to lose a microwave (39 lbs) !!!!!!! ( I think I'll skip the elephant penis.......................).
  10. i was banded Dec13th, 2011 and ive lost 44 lbs so far. It was 47 but ive gained a few back as my band has loosened a little since ive lost weight. I have my 7th fill scheduled for monday july 16th. My big goal was to have lost 50 lbs by my july 27th birthday. hope fully this fill will help and i will lose 6 lbs by then . ( What a great bday present that will be !)
  11. Hang in there, you've got alot of support here !!! You act like you've done something horrible by eating a sandwich or 2. Not so, you're only human and everybodys probably cheated some too. Quit worrying about what other people think or dont think of you. They're too busy working out to worry about you for more than a second anyway. I take a swim class 3x weekly with people of all shapes and sizes , small to quite large. Who cares ?? Some sort of exercise will get your endorphins going, and as you lose weight you'll feel like exercising more because your clothes will start falling off and you'll be loosing weight. Isnt that why you got banded in the first place ? It DOES work if you follow the Drs rules 95% of the time. ( Make good food choices, take small bites and chew well, exercise 3x minium a week, get fills as needed. ) Good luck !
  12. Excellent ! What are your diet and exercise secrets ? WAY TO GO !!!!
  13. i do a water fitness class 3x a week, and try to walk once a week. i did try a spinning class recently , it wasnt too bad ! The water fitness classes have been a huge reason im losing weight and inches. Banded last December, down 45 lbs and down from a size 18 to a 14. good luck !
  14. Y ou made a lifetime commitment when you got banded, so dont give up so easily ! Its waaaaaay too early to get discouraged by a small setback. this is a looooong journey with some detours along the way. Try different kinds of protein to see what you like, it will keep you much fuller. Try a tiny bite of steak, chicken and pork (thin, not thick ) fish, beans, low cal peanut butter , chili etc. Ask you Dr for ideas . Try different kinds of exercise to see what you can stick with, even if its daily walking. Something is better than nothing , and soon you'll see good results ! Good luck !
  15. i have no trouble with pasta, as we only eat whole wheat ( Husbands diabetic ), whole wheat pasta is less likely to get stuck but i havent had regular pasta in years. same with 3-4 bites of potato. a little regular bread is fine but after 3-4 bites im stuck. Broccoli became a no no after my 6th fill, but was fine before. It can vary depending on your fill, time of day etc. Steak was fine last night, but got stuck today at lunch. Sigh..................
  16. feels kind of surreal doesnt it ?? congrats !
  17. im sorry you have to go through all this, you have alot of support here when you need it. Im reading your story and asking you this......................Do you hate the band because of some mild general problems you had before the hernia ? Or do you hate it because it caused the hernia ? You said you had pain, couldnt eat salads etc, and ran the risk of having to run to the bathroom after you ate. Is there a reason you did'nt contact another lap band Dr. about the pain ? Not eating certain foods was a trade off for the healthy weightloss that probably saved your life. ( yes, i understand, i miss broccoli too. ) The bathroom issue ? Um............. if you had'nt been banded it could of been a worse bathroom issue if you get my drift. What im sayin' is you might want to seperate you band feelings from your hernia feelings, and that might get you mentally in a better place so you can heal better. Having a strong, positive mindset can do wonders for healing. May your glass always be half full , and hope you feel better soon !
  18. puppyphat, i agree with all the above posts. I want to stick a bumper sticker on my car (and i dont like bumper stickers ) that says "Ask me about my Lap Band !" Until a year ago i had vaguely remembered seeing lap band ads in magizines, but it wasnt until june 2011 when 2 relatives had it done that a light bulb went off. Now i want to scream it from the rooftops ! "Theres a solution to your weight problem and im living proof !!!" Im halfway to my goal and very happy about it. I m very open to anyone who asks and hope others will consider it for a possible weight loss solution. Good luck to everyone !
  19. i keep a couple of small baggies filled with almonds (about 23 almonds is a serving ) and a piece or 2 of O'bertos Turkey Jerky ( Costco ) and 1/2 a chocolate protein bar. Once every 2 weeks or so i make some hardboiled eggs. Grab the baggie as you run out the door and you'll have a quick , healthy breakfast. If you have time eat the egg or have some yogurt or 1/2 a banana. Good luck !
  20. ice cream is my kryptonite too. i could care less about soda pop, alcohol or fried foods, but i love anything crunchy or sweet. For ice cream i try to look for a healthier substitute. Weight watchers ice cream, TCBY frozen yogurt bars, or a frozen sf jello pudding cup are all really good. ( maybe once a month i get a DQ mini blizzard, sigh........................) I rarely like salty stuff , but yesterday..............?well, i found a good chip sustitute, Simply7 lentil chips. ( www. simply7snacks), they have 130 cals for 31 chips. Not greasy but crunchy and salty enough to satisfy me. I found them in the snack section at T.J. Maxx ! I know,strange.....................
  21. sorry you have to go through this, but i agree with the others. You need some medical support. Maybe you could call one of those Dr hotlines , usually a 800 #, where you can talk to a nurse ? He/she would be able to answer your medical concerns and put your mind at ease. Maybe look into it ? Good luck, hope all goes well!
  22. tmf, i always enjoy reading your posts . i can usually detect a bit of humor in your writings. i hope you take this the right way , but you remind me of my favorite uncle, the one who shares our familys slightly off kilter sense of humor. I can see why you call yourself "too much fun !!"
  23. i wish i could of seen the look on your face ! wow, that must of felt amazing ! Congrats !!
  24. way to go ! What a great birthday present to yourself ! Now thats a gift that you could never buy in a store ! It's funny because i have the same goal. i was banded Dec,2012 with the hope that i could lose 50 lbs by my july 27th birthday. well, its going to be close ! Im down 47 lbs, and kinda stuck here but hoping i will lose another 3 by my birthday. we will see....... anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!!! YOU"RE AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
