kespy74 got a reaction from Danni-doinit4me in Did you know Your Protein Drinks Can be Covered By Your Insurance?
At first I wan't even going to try because I figured my insurance (Tricare) wouldn't cover it, but I said what the heck. It was just a few minutes of my time and the worst that could happen is that they say no and I've only lost a few minutes of time.
My shipment is on it's way! I get the Protein, chewable Vitamins (insurance didn't cover liquid) and scar cream.
    Thank you Insure Nutrition!!!

Hello all I just went to the seminar yesterday with my hubby, and beforehand was convinced I wanted the Lapband, but now I am leaning more toward the bypass. I have Tricare Prime and will be calling my PCP tomorrow to make an appointment so I can get the referral for the bypass. I am hoping it will go smoothly and I can get surgery by the end of the year or beginning of the new year. Looking forward to making new friends and get all the information possible about the bypass.

First, Congratulations on your progress. Way to go!!
Now, I beleive if someone loves you, they love you good and bad and will never demean or make you feel lesser. I think you have answered your own question. You have goals and desires and unfortuantely your boyfriend is content where he is. I think you are delaying the inevitiable, even though you love him, you will resent him for holding you back. You are young and have so much living to do. Maybe you going after your dreams will motivate your man to realize he has to get off his butt or risk losing you but you have to do you.
    Good luck!

kespy74 got a reaction from Lthomas in My pouch has made me a Vegetarian...and I'm okay with it
I tried the Boca crumbles last night with taco seasoning and ate it as a lettuce wrap! OMG, it was so yummy and I ate it again today for lunch. I made tortillas for my family and let them eat it without telling them it wasn't meat. and they loved it and couldn't believe they had another meat free supper. The vegetarian lifestyle is fitting my new lifestyle very well and I'm at the point where I don't really miss meat or chicken anymore. I am still exploring fish options because I've never really liked fish.
I am allergic to shrimp but would love to try in case I am no longer allergic, but I'm kinda scared.

I'm not sure what it stands for but it was nutrition and Vitamins given to me intravenously thru a PICC line.
I was able to tolerate a little beef yesterday and today. So happy that I don't have pain when I eat.

I had RNY on March 5th. I've had some complications. I've had two EGDs and ended up in the hospital for a week. They ended up removing my gall bladder and I had scar tissue and a twist. I am still on intravenous food through a PICC line. Been on it for two weeks and it will be at least another two weeks. And found out today. I have a UTI. But I've lost over 50 pounds and I am getting better each day. No regrets.

kespy74 got a reaction from shmily in A couple questions: WLS Friendly Restaurants and Ice
    Hello My fellow GB family,
    I have a couple questions
    Question 1
I will be 4 weeks post op on Wednesday and we are heading to Orlando for spring break for 5 days next weekend. We aren't going to any parks but we will be in a hotel room with no kitchen, so cooking is kind of out of the question. What are some WLS freindly restaurants that offer foods that are low carb/low fat/low sugar. I am in stage 2, which is soft foods that I can cut with a fork.
    Question 2
I am constantly thirsty, and sipping just does not help. I've started sucking on ice chips. Does anyone else do this and is it ok?
    Thanks family!!

kespy74 got a reaction from Sharpie in Shoe size?!?!
I know my feet grew as my body grew!! I used to be a size 4 and before surgery I was wearing a 6. I am 4 weeks post op Wednesday and my feet are starting to swim in my go to pair of shoes. I was kind of happy that my feet were a little bigger, because I usually had to wear kid shoes and if I wanted to wear a pair of heels, I had to stuff the toes. Not comfortable. But if smaller feet is a price I have to pay to be healthier, so be it.

I am so sorry for all the issues you are having to deal with. You've taken a great first step by letting it out and talking about it. It's good news that your pouch hasn't stretched. My suggestion would be to address the depression with your doctor. Water aerobics may be a good exercise and less impact to your injuries. I will be sending prayers for you.

Now may well be the ideal, perfect time to examine your approach to your journey. You're measuring your success by the number on the scale. And you're disappointed in yourself as a result. I understand. We ALL understand. And it's still a bad idea.
Every day that you follow the protocol, that you follow your plan, is a success worthy of celebrating. Every day. The key is no matter what happens, follow your plan. Sometimes you'll lose weight quickly, sometimes more slowly, and yes, sometimes not at all. Your response is always the same - follow your plan. No matter what happens - follow your plan.
To understand what makes this so incredibly powerful you only have to look at what I call The Prime Directive - lifestyle changes. We've all heard it a million times, the surgery is only a tool. Long term success requires lifestyle changes. The medical community does a great job of stressing the importance of lifestyle changes. But perhaps not so great when it comes to helping us understand how to accomplish those changes. What is the process? I believe the answer is - follow your plan.
The first year following surgery is often referred to as the "honeymoon period". You're excited about a new beginning. A new life. And in most cases you're losing weight. A lot of weight. And losing it faster than you ever have. It is indeed very exciting. But something even more exciting is taking place. Something that if you recognize it, embrace it, practice it, love it and live it - is even more profound than the weight loss itself.
Think of the honeymoon period as being in training. You are training yourself for - lifestyle changes. And you do that by - following your plan. Every day. Day after day. Week after week. Repetition. Again and again. In the beginning it can be challenging. But even though most of us are not aware of it, every day, every week, every month, it gets a little easier. Every day, every week and every month, you have to think about it a little less. With every day, week and month you are literally making lifestyle changes. And before you know it, your plan and those changes have become second nature. You have accomplished your goal. You have arrived at your destination. It's who you are. And who you will be for the rest of your life. And it all started with - following your plan.

    UPDATE 2 Months:
Happy 2 Month Surgiversary - My Body & Me
Today is two months since I went to surgery at 5am in the morning. This is officially the lowest I have weighed since coming home from Afghanistan in 2010. Not counting those 7 months, this is lowest in.........well I can't remember. I am very aware that this amount of loss will not stay at this rate but I want to keep this journal going so I can look back.
I have learned so much about me and my body these past months. I can look at food and know what it will do to my body and what my body will do with it. My body is responding and I don't want to let it down. It likes the meals with Protein. It likes to know that meals will happen at certain times of the day and doesn't worry if I will forget about it. It likes the work outs. It likes to actually rest when sleeping instead of fighting to get enough oxygen. My body likes ME!!!!!!
So I have said before I am a stat guy so here are the pounds and inches that I have lost in two months:
    WEIGHT: 53 lbs.
    WAIST: 9 in
    CHEST: 4 in
    LEG: 3.5 in
    NECK: 2 in
    ARM: 2.5 in
    New quote for the month:
"My weight is perfect, it just so happens I am 3 feet too short!!"

Surgeons office submitted my paperwork to my insurance on Feb 21st late in the day. I can check online on my status and it showed up on the 24th as pending and I it was changed to approved this morning the 25th. The surgeons office was even surprised they got the fax that quickly. They said they usually have to wait awhile. Good luck to everyone waiting for insurance approval-sending good mojo your way!!
