and I'm down 16+ lbs! They want to see me in two weeks again. it seems they follow sleevers a little closer than GBS. At least I got an afternoon appointment so I can work half day.

Are You Happy With Your Choice?
I'm sooo happy with my sleeve. I have three close family members who have had GBS and they are all happy with their path as well. I'd never heard about the sleeve until I attended my first WLS talk back in summer 2010 and I knew immediately that was for me. I worried about the malabsortive issues and just didn't like the idea of re-routing things that have to do with my GI. Having a smaller stomach is all I wanted!

Knowing What You Know Now, What Would You Do Differently?
I wish I'd done it a year ago like I wanted (darned PCP and his drugs to try first) and I have way too many popsicles and don't like to give my son things with artificial sweeteners.

Time Off From Work
I had surgery 1/9/12 and I worked from home today and will go in tomorrow. I have a desk job so I don't have to fear anything strenuous - my only fear is the banquet of sugar/fat/salt that is just outside my door in the office. I was also in touch with work all last week, even the day of my surgery (darned iphone is the worst ball and chain ever!). I could have gone in today too as a matter of fact, I could have probably gone in on Friday- I felt that good.

How Many Stitches?
One of my little sections of steri strips finally came off and there was no stitch! This is one of the camera incisions, not the larger ones. Am I held all together with glue? I haven't had any wound seepage or bleeding at all. I like my surgeon more and more every day! How many stitches did you have? Do you remember?

Root Canal Before Vsg?
Not that it's exactly comparable, but I ended up with a double ear infection 10 days out and ended a round of antibiotics the day before surgery. I was totally fine. The NSAID pain relievers are the ones they want us to avoid because they thin the blood I think. If you could get something other than a NSAID for the pain it might be ok. I'd call and ask the surgeon's office. They might even be able to suggest something.

I Am Really Struggling 10 Days Before My Surgery.
I think surgeons might not be too surprised at the weight gain over the holidays. Have you called them to ask about it? You might call and express your concern about the weight gain and ask if that's going to slow you down to surgery. Why worry about something you don't even know is an issue? Let me tell you something crazy. I went in for my pre-op appointment on Thursday and my weight was up a pound and a few ounces from my first appt in September (it was 267.4). I had to do liquids only on Sunday and when I arrive to weigh in at the hospital I weighed 254.6. WTH in four days? The only thing I can think is the liquids helped all the solids pass through my system and then the fasting the night before had me a little low on fluids. When I got home from the hospital I was 268 on my scale which is always a bit lighter than the Dr it seems. This morning I was 250 on my scale... =)

You're out by now! Hope it all went perfectly!

So Sick Of Clear Liquids Already!
oh wow, I had one week clear and am in a week of full liquids (no milk) and next week I get soft foods. I think week four is pretty broad and close to full foods except for bread, pasta and rice. It's amazing how different each surgical group approaches post- op eating. I also only had ond day of liquids prior to surgery and no pre-diet.

How Long Before You Start Getting Hungry?
I started feeling hungry on Saturday and it's definitely worse when I'm around food. I'm taking in lots of liquids I think it's just the 300 calorie a day max that was taking its tole. It could be cravings too, who knows? I'll be happy to get some Greek yogurt next week. This week I'm supposed to be able to eat thinned cream of wheat or instant oatmeal and I don't even want to bother because of the straight carb calories.

Geesh - I Knew It Would Be Different, But Can't Eat Much At All
Oh an egg sounds divine! I just started full liquids week two (minus milk) and I've been thinking about deviled eggs, thinking that might be a decent first egg dish. I've been a little surprised at how easily any fluids move through. In the hospital the nurses were irritated at how little I was drinking, but all I'd heard was sip, sip, sip and not to take in more than a third of a cup at a time. They were bringing me two cups at least at a time. Good luck with the solids!

Happy To Be Here
Hi Brian, I had surgery a week ago today. I think my experience could be textbook perfect. I didn't have any drains, and have had no incision trouble. I did experience some nausea for the first 18 hours after I woke up but that was controlled well with meds and I haven't experienced any vomiting at all. I hope your experience is excellent too! Good luck!

My Vsg Journey Has Begun!
Welcome Courtney! My insurance didn't require a pre-op diet but at 40, I'd been dieting since I was 9 years old. I'm just starting week two post-op but I'm very pleased do far. I think I had a darned near perfect surgery experience too. I hope yours goes as well! Good luck!
